Raj Mathai, it seems from here, is floating on cloud 9. It's been a rapid ascent for the former sports TV tonsil to chief news anchor at NBC Bay Area.
Hard to believe almost five years has passed since Mathai's move to news.
The transition has been remarkably smooth and steady for the South Bay resident who now commands the screen as if he's been doing news all along. Believe me, it's not an easy change. Viewers are notoriously picky and overly critical when it comes to their evening anchor routine.
Mathai's work on KNTV is a crisp and no-nonsense delivery. He's straightforward and simple--which sounds sort of duh, shouldn't that be the premise of all anchors? Sure, you just don't see it occurring on a regular basis. Maybe the pressure to perform is too intense --in any event, Mathai has jelled to the position and is now one of the leading Bay Area news anchors.

You don't like that I say it,I but i detect a republican in him. He also has sort of that Brian Williams debonair in training thing going. If he drives an Aston Martin exotic type car..there's ya proof.
ReplyDeleteThey say liberalism is a mental disorder and I detect liberalism in you, Stan.
DeleteYeah, I agree. No empathy, no connection, seems a little full of himself. Competent, yes, but no human connection to viewers.
DeleteSo driving an exotic car makes you a Republican? What you fail to realize is that most of your beloved Bay Area and California "Democrats" have just as much if not more money than their "Republican" counterparts and drive these conservative machines you speak of. The only difference being one party pulls the wool over your eyes and wants everyone to think they aren't what they want you to believe the other guys are. Sheep like you make this possible. Sad. But hey as long as you get social assistance in one form or another you keep the Ponzi scheme up.
DeleteIt certainly takes a Democrat to connect with viewers. That makes a lot of sense.
DeleteStan detects "a republican" in Raj Mathai?
ReplyDeleteIf that lasts more than four hours seek immediate medical attention.
Ah,how interesting- KQED showed Raj's Check Please! appearance from 2012. He,Leslie and Thuy Vu were the names. Leslie being the host of course. I tell ya,Thuy was giggling like a school girl over Raj. Batting her eyelashes. Raj was like the 5th Beatle to her. Falling all over him would be an understatement. Raj was feeling it too. He went from "My wife and I "...to looking at Thuy and telling her next time "We should all go"..uhuh..lol. I bet!
ReplyDeleteThat was 2012. I wonder if they ever did "all go?".
My cousin is a friend of the owner of the restaurant Raj reviewed. I talked to him at a a get-together once about why he only had restaurants on the Peninsula. Like me, he lived in Fremont where there is an Indian restaurant almost every other block. I asked him since he lived in Fremont and with the big Indian population, why he didn't build a restaurant in Fremont. He told me he could charge more on the Peninsula and every Indian woman that would come in to a restaurant in Fremont would be comparing his restaurant's curry and recipes to hers.
DeleteI thought Raj was more relaxed when he was doing sports. He was connected to the viewers then. He lost himself when he became "the man". In life at one time or another we ALL lose ourselves. Some longer than others.
ReplyDeleteHe is the next Anderson Cooper. Book it.
