Yeah, Melanie Morgan And Brian Sussman Shouldn't Be Invited To Dinner Together

This is apparently a hot-button item of late so I'll say it again even though it's sort of old news but yeah, Melanie Morgan and Brian Sussman are fire and ice.

And listening to Sussman, which I do from time to time to see if he goes off the deep end, I wonder how Morgan lasted as long with him as she did.

A long time ago I liked Brian personally before he began to wander off into the mad scientist circuit. Now it's just painful and sort of weird and I'm not even delving into politics because politics is so damn tiresome these days.

  1. I was hoping this Methany fellow (I will not use those nasty nicknames) was going to get rid of Brian and Ms Green, then woo Melanie back from the Hinterlands with a more suitable partner. Nothing so far, everything but what I want him to do. Maybe Me; will make a name for herself with this Santa Rosa station. The old take lemons and make lemonade motif. I certainly miss hearing her. I'm not in the habit of listening to radio online. The visual world is just a click away, and can very quickly grab my attention. So I'm often distracted when listening to any online radio. I noticed on 910am, Tom Brenner is doing traffic and using his own name. I guess he realizes that Officer Vic era is pretty much over, unless he and Mel can work something out..

  2. Brian's show is awful and the ratings agree. You can't have a successful station without a great morning show, and he's the primary reason it's terrible. The others are fine, and Melanie while not great made it much better.

  3. Painful isn't the word for their show now. I used to enjoy Katie Green until she started making my coffee nervous.
Brian is now a Spencer Hughes "wanna-be" LOL

Mel and OV were class acts since they learned from and respected Lee Rodgers, an ultimate radio professional even if you didn't agree with his politics. Bay Area radio misses him terribly.

  4. Anybody who thinks that Pig Virus doesn't have a chapter on the weatherman and the morning show in his black book is insane. One day at a time. Brian will most likely be using the phrase "New Year, new career" come January 2015.
As far a Melanie goes I think she deserves to be back on the air in SF but I'm not sure that the mornings are the place. The strategy will be fresh voices for SF and she may be regarded as a step backwards.

  5. How much of the current suckness is Brian? And how much is the suits in the office? I can't believe he thinks it's a good show now.

  6. Rich,
Do you think you could do a story on how Sussman came to the Bay Area and replaced Joe Bartlett at KPIX? I don't remember the year, I was a child at the time (born in 1974). KPIX was the local news for my parents, along with CBS network news. I remember how they were unhappy with the change. I would love to know the story behind the change. Why it happened. what was happening at KPIX to prompt the change. was there something Brian had that Joe lacked? did Joe do something to prompt the change?

  7. Not only was Melanie displeased with Brian's sophomoric behavior on the radio, but their politics didn't really seem to clash either. Brian is far more religiously conservative than Melanie, who on social issues is slightly more moderate, much like her late co-host Lee Rodgers, who seldom if ever talked about abortion, gay marriage and other issues of the sort.

  8. Brian's on air persona was a Rick Santorum to Melanie's on air Sarah Palin. One based on classic conservative beliefs as historically known to be, somewhat limited in today's world by the Scripture's doctrines, and the other, intellectually nimble, very secure in who and what she is, plus being a natural talker. Like Sarah, Mel is capitvating, and someone who is hard to dislike. Both have the spoken goal of being the center of both control and attention. What was it they used to say? Too many Chiefs (or wanna-be-chiefs) and not enough Indians!

    1. I'm not a huge Melanie fan, due to her politics, she also at times came off as mean spirited, although I think that was mostly an on the radio trait. Having said that, I often listened to her and Lee Rogers, I think comparing her to Sarah Palin is unfair to Melanie, I think Melanie is smarter than Sarah, which means I think you are right Melanie is intellectual nimble, I don't think the word intellectual should be ever used in connection with Sarah Palin.

    2. Sussmann thought that there was big money in acting like a right-wing wacko after seeing the success of people like Rush, Sean Hannity, and Glenn Beck. But he did it poorly.

Michael Savage is the best. A total nut case but at least he is actually entertaining even if you don't agree with his on-air politics (which he probably doesn't agree with either!).

Sussman should go back to doing the weather.

  9. So what was the straw that broke the camel's back??? Suddenly, she wasn't there anymore!

  10. It's hard to know if Sussman and Morgan are really as obnoxious as the characters that they play, or if they are as clueless politically as they make themselves out to be.

They do what they do because they think it is good for their ratings and their own bottom line.
