    1. I don't know and I don't care.
But I'm just thinking about dinner plans tonight, thanks for the insight.

  2. Rich, I have 5 years of bay area on-air experience (from the late 1960s), a lapsed First Phone FCC license, and can actually fix equipment and tune transmitters. I don't have any training from the Columbia School of Broadcasting, however.

Where can I find a part time job in radio?

    1. Wow, a First Phone. I had a Third Phone because if you were a DJ you hd to have a third Phone-I bought some time on KMPX in the old days-but they were easy. I think they came on a box of Wheaties.

    2. I believe you can still get a General Class Radiotelephone license, which basically replaced the First Phone, but most stations today are looking for SBE Certification (Society of Broadcast Engineers). They have extensive training and testing programs across a variety of disciplines, experience levels, and platforms.

"*The Giants executive broadcast brass won't say so publically but many were none-to-happy over Mike Krukow missing Sunday's game in Miami where the team was playing the Marlins. Turns out Krukow missed a flight from Reno. He's scheduled to be back on the air Monday night in Philly where the Giants play the Phillies."

Now it turns out that Krukow is suffering from an incurable muscular disease which team insiders have been aware of for some time but obviously not Rich Lieberman.

Lieberman's story yesterday was no more than inaccurate gossip. Rich, can you explain how you got it wrong?

    1. No, YOU got it wrong.

I've known about Krukow's ailment for some time but didn't write about it because it was a private medical affair...just like I know about a few current Bay Area media figures who have some serious and non-serious medical issues that I have not written about unless they give me permission.

      They have not.

My story on Krukow yesterday is accurate--the Giants have known about his condition for some time--this didn't just come out of the air. The Nevius piece became public b/c he asked Krukuw if he'd want to come out on the open and Krukow obliged.

Krukow has been dealing with this medical issue for quite awhile and the Giants have been sympathetic--as of course they should be but they also are sensitive to broadcasters maintaining their schedule --this was no different. No "gossip", just the facts.

I wish Krukow the best as would anyone but one has nothing to do with the other; I think it's YOU that needs to get it right.

    2. So Rich, you also stand behind your claim that "a few [Giant's] team officials are a bit annoyed" by Krukow's absence?

And just wondering Rich, did you get that from the team officials themselves or is that something you heard from a third party?

It's very hard to believe that the Giants would feel that way about a key member of their organization suffering from an incurable disease.

    3. I got it through some contacts --although I'm not an INSIDER...

    4. To paraphrase that racist congressman from the SOTU a while back: YOU LIE!

Rich, you have a tendency for hyperbole and outright throwing shit against the wall (I know you won't post this). @9:08 is right. I'm the one who replied to that post yesterday, saying it was "pure speculation" that the Giants were upset. Granted the Giants are all about image and this may throw a wrench in their works, but I doubt they are "annoyed."

Maybe Chuck wrote the piece to set the record straight after seeing your drivel. If that's the case, kudos to you for moving the needle.

      Mission accomplished?

    5. Who are YOU, you anonymous coward? I place my name out there--you HIDE behind your computer, you gutless schmuck.
Go screw yourself. And the story is good. Putz.

    1. Knowing PIX, they'll probably promote.

    2. I had the exact same thought as Rich. My first thought was it was a disaster. My second thought was all the managers were probably patting themselves on the back afterwards. Veronica De La Cruz belongs on Right This Minute.

    3. Opinions are valid, but give it some time before issuing a final judgement. PIX is trying to do what no one else has been able to accomplish. Consider that if anyone knew what it took to be successful with a post-TV audience, everyone would be doing it. Also think how significant it would be if they succeed. For PIX's sake, and for the sake of the future of local TV news, I hope they continue to experiment with the form. They're off to a decent start.

  5. What. The. Hell. Is the Joel and Corey show? I'm a Bay Area native who has listened to radio my entire life and although there have been some really poor shows on the Bay Area airwaves, this may be the worst of all time. I did some research and found out Corey is actually in charge of that station? And the Joel guy was The late Gene Burns' producer? Please Rich, tell me how this show that couldn't get on the air in Chico is on in a city like San Francisco? Shouldn't there be a tryout to get on the air?

    1. Radio is pretty much dead these days.

I don't listen to that show but I'm sure someone else has an opinion or insight.

    2. I actually liked them.

    3. I worked with Corey way early in his career. Glad he is talented enough to get lambasted here. He's a good guy and glad he is doing well in the big city.

    4. You two obviously have no idea about radio if you think this show is listenable. I agree 100% with 8:47am. They sound like 2 squawking hens talking about nothing relevant except their lives. It sounds like a basement podcast.

  6. Until yesterday I've noticed that Ama Daetz has been working weekends and also during the week with Dan Ashley for about a couple weeks now. Any updates on KGO making her permanent during the week and finding a weekend anchor?

    1. We should probably know by Sept...I've been saying I think Ama gets the permanent gig next to D Ashley just because.

  7. On July 16, Brian Sussman began to devote (ensuing pun intended) his blog to weekly Christian devotionals. Though tailored to men, he wrote, they are/were also applicable to women.

As of today, however, his website URL converts to status "suspended." What is the connection between this transformation and imminent—cannot be too soon—cancellation of "KSFO Morning Show"?

  9. Do you think Fox will drop the KTVU laser logo and predict who will be fired/contract not renewed?

    ReplyDelete
  10. I have no idea on the logo but I would think it would be freshened up a bit...as for firings/contracts not renewed, check the senior science and consumer reporter, but they'd have to walk on hot coals to get that done.

  11. Tell me PIX nightbeat is going to be more then ultra closeups, the weather guy without a tie, and Besties Liz and Veronica doing quick hits on entertainment?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, I wish I could but that's what they think is "innovative."

      Delete
    2. What if they did the news from the Kink.com armory and had Veronica and Liz hogtied and ballgagged. The challenge would be to say the news through their gags.

That would be innovative and it would get amazing ratings.

  12. Do you know how Damon Bruce is doing over at The Game in terms of getting along with the other on-air personalities and his thoughts on having his show cut-off most of the time so far because of the A's game? I think you posted while he was at KNBR that he really did not have a great relationship with the other on-air people there especially Radnich. Just wondering if you have any info on how he is doing so far on 95.7.

    1. Damon's doing his show and concentrating on his craft-- that's his top priority --the latter is more important. Making friends is not high up on his totem pole nor should it be.

    2. You are so right. .. Making friends should not be high up on any totem pole nor should it ever be.

  14. Do you think this is the year that Randy Savage is finally inducted it into the WWE Hall of Fame? Or do you feel his brother Lanny's insistence that Randy would only accept an invitation to the Hall of Fame if it included the entire Poffo family (dad and brother) is something that would hinder Vince Mcmahon from making the decision to induct him?

  15. Does Karel remind anyone else of Baby Huey?

    2. Baby Huey was a Dum-Dum, Sort of a Zippy The Pinhead before all the Mushrooms and the Microdots . Karel may be many things, but he's not stupid. As far as cartoon resemeblances, I was thinking if Richie-Rich and Little Lotta had a comic book baby, that Enfant Terrible would be Karel, with or without further alterations.

  16. I just read the story in today's SF Chronicle about Mike Krukow's debilitating muscular disease and am now disgusted by what Rich Lieberman wrote about Krukow yesterday.

Lieberman owes Mike Krukow and his readers a big apology.

  17. Yo 1249 and 1047: you people are bunch of jackasses. Employers don't care if you're sick. They want you to work. Sure the Giants are sympathetic to Krukow's plight, but they're an employer. They don't give a shit. They want someone to work. By the way, you have to show you're working to get unemployment. So why don't you pretend you're doing just that instead of saying nothing.

  20. You think that Gil Gross will ever actually take calls from listeners on his show? One would think that might help the ratings as the monologue are boring.

    1. The only call Gil will take is the one from Rhoda after he gets sacked from 910am. Let's hope he's treated better than the way they treated Mr. Burns on massacre day.

  21. Can you tell us who that annoying loudmouthed female doofus is, who voices the KKSF nighttime spots for TrueCar.com and who uses the phrase "buy a car" over and over and over, in each spot?

I've heard some amateurish voice talents in my time, but this broad takes the cake. She can't even pronounce "car" correctly, part of the time, when she pronounces it as "core" instead.

Surely, a company like TrueCar.com must be aware of what an ignorant uneducated klutz this woman sounds like. Are they trying to use her to attract the business of other morons, who have a low IQ like she does?

She needs to be sent back to doing women's hair and nails again, where she belongs, rather than her voice being on the radio, where she clearly doesn't belong.

    1. 10:53 PM, I've been saying the exact same thing since I first heard her last November. I was so sure that she would have been replaced by now. I call her Ghetto-Girl. I'm black, and I'm only reacting to how she presents herself. My guess is either the owners of True Car are not native english speakers and don't realize how 'common' she sounds, or her way of talking is similar to most the people who
      use their True Car services.

A second 'fly in the ointment' are the commercials for Sam (or Than?) Merril who used to be on Flip This House program. Sam has the opposite problem, he over entones, with each and every word dipped in ecstatic emotion. I just listened to him talk about "My Educational Workshop" for the 32nd time today.

      Delete
    2. Excellent point at 10:53apm.
Unfortunately the use of the English language is not encouraged in modern radio.
Instead we are subjected to a lot of "Hey man" or "Say dude".
this is especially prevalent in sports talk radio.

  22. Does anybody know if Victory Court is still in the picture for a new ballpark for the A's??? If not, what about Howard Terminal? I take it that the tug of war continues between Oakland and San Jose over the A's. By the way, has the Major League Baseball commission decided yet after five years???
