Veronica De La Cruz Is Still MIA at KPIX and KPIX Is Mum; High-Profile Anchor Nearing One-Month Anniversary of No Show; Rumor Mill Heating Up

Getting weirder by the day. Already the rumor mill is heating up.

Where is she? No one knows. Just what the hell is going on? We're hearing stories but nothing that hasn't been confirmed. It would be nice to know unless it was something really unusual and personal but so far that's not the case.

We think.

She was to have begun her anchor duties on May 5th. Next week will mark the one-month anniversary of her MIA status.
And "family matters" don't take this long and even if they did, KPIX could put out an internal memo to staff. Make it real general, it doesn't have to be specific.

But KPIX is mum, not only to their own workers but the general public as well. And yes, Ms. De La Cruz has a right to her privacy but she's not your normal individual--sometimes it sucks to be a splashy, high-positioned news anchor who was supposed to become the 6 and 10 PM tonsil for the CBS station in the country's #-6 market.

By all indications, De La Cruz will eventually begin anchoring at Channel 5. We hope she's OK and that her family matters are being dealt with and remedied. We wish no intrusion but this is ridiculous.

Of course when a high-profile anchor is hired and the station makes noise about it and then is mum regarding this mystery then clearly PIX might want to re-think its strategy --after all, like it or not, Veronica De La Cruz is a public person. She doesn't owe anybody an explanation but KPIX could do the public right by at least telling us what's going on. At the very least it would quell all the speculation. Of course by doing so it would require a degree of common sense--an apparent commodity in today's TV News business.

  1. Yeah Rich, this is a tremendous outrage!
You really think this is worth bringing up repeatedly?

  3. Dare I say it? Perhaps it's a private matter ... and none of our business.

  4. First Barbara Simpson went MIA and now Veronica De La Cruz. Please keep us posted Rich. Thanks for your work and F Mel Baker.
Btw I know this is off topic but is anyone else having trouble using the "like" button on Facebook? Specifically when I hit the "like" button in a group forum using my iPhone 5 I get a message that says: "the link is broken or unavailable etc". It is happening on every group even when I use different browsers ie chrome, safari and Firefox. It's driving me nuts!!!

    1. Update! Regarding the "like" issue, it has been fixed as of 6:20pm. It had been going on for 2 days. Apparently Zuckerberg's engineers read this blog. Issue got fixed shortly after Rich posted my comments at 4:48pm. Thanks Rich!

  5. PIX lo-balled her, but she didn't figure it out untill she started looking for a place in "the city".

Now she is pissed that all she can afford is East Palo Alto.

    Just a guess....

    1. I think a more likely guess is Elizabeth Cook has kidnapped her children and is threatening them if Veronica appears in front of a camera.

    2. Even in East P.A., prices are skyrocketing. She may have to go to East Salinas.

  6. Regarding Veronica De La Cruz, I have it on very strong authority that Jan Wahl ate her.

What speculation? Does anybody in the general public save for a few people who read this blog actually care? I actually enjoy reading the blog but could care less about what happens to one more random anchor.

  9. Gawd Rich, you are worse than Nancy Grace and 'missing white woman' stories.

  10. I think that Rich's perspective on this is reasonable.

  11. I heard that searchers got a ping they think is from Veronica in the Southern Indian Ocean and they're going to concentrate their search efforts there.

  12. I am guessing it can possibly be child custody. Maybe she needs court approval before she moves.

  13. I love all of the previous comments! What a dysfunctional bunch we are. It makes me miss working with you knuckleheads!

  14. This just in: Veronica decided to stay at MSNBC after Chris Mathews begged her to have his children. In a very brief statement, she said, "OK!" KPIX owes you no "Public Right." You didn't hire her or are in the process. Stop taking yourself so seriously for shit's sake. She be on 'PIX when, and if, she is.

  16. Who cares. Unless she has a Tori Campbell moment she can show up tomorrow or next week for all I care. And 5 hasn't exactly been parading her around like she is the second coming. No big deal.

  17. Probably baby daddy issues with the move.
