I'd have to ask Barbara --which I have and she's not talking...maybe she signed a confidentiality agreement which makes her talking to a lawyer sound interesting.
If 95.7 the Game does have better ratings in the next months what are chances of them attaching themselves to a second station(like 1050 for KNBR) in order to have a better frequency(reach)?
There was talk they would move up the dial to a more stronger Entercom station but that would interfere with that station's format which has better ratings than The Game.
The Game will remain at 95.7 FM but clearly their lousy signal is as much an issue with their numbers in addition to some of their shows.
No, not now although I'm sure the Warriors have an idea of who they'd want.
I wouldn't be surprised if Barnett ended up staying put and doing road games --he's still at the top of his game, for one, and secondly, the amount of public and media support for his work have made a lot of waves in the Warriors broadcast dept.
I do not follow sports other than pro football, and that is usually all about pools. My eyes glaze over or I change the channel to check shopping during sports on the nightly news. The radio spots on sports are just background noise to me. But who is the man that does the sports spots on KGO on Saturday a.m. Is he on another station reporting sports? I at least listen to him... funny! Thanks - now ready for bashing for my ignorance. lc
You're not ignorant. I'm not into the ballet but I like Opera--it's all an acquired taste.
To answer your question, the AM Sports guy on KGO Saturday is Larry Olson. He thinks he's funnier than he is --a lot of his "jokes" are contrived and forced.
Owens was making 7 figures from 2006 up to his current contract for which he gets paid roughly $475K a year...Pat Thurston, I don't know...Karel gets $200 a show plus medical benefits from the union.
What's your take on John Hamilton on KGO...he's a legend, but over the last few weeks he's been sounding a little off...I don't know how many times he's told the audience his name is Keoke in Hawaiian since he returned from his junket to the islands. Does anyone think the segment where people who aren't able to find good airfares online themselves call in for fares from the travel agent guest is good radio? (I want to fly to NYC the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and come back the Sunday after...why are the fares so high?) And, is his show flat out brokered?
I think the fact the show is on a Sunday morning --early--speaks for itself.
Hamilton's show, I'm sure, is either brokered or a trade-out--as for the content of the show, travel questions are harmless --some of the information is useful enough--I don't think they're trying to reinvent the wheel with this program.
I don't listen to him much lately to offer an opinion on his mental well-being, I assume he's OK.
If A's fans are staying away from games because they don't like the Coliseum, why don't they at least listen on radio or watch on TV, their ratings are horrible?
The Giants are the top banana in this market and have KNBR, 50K-watts and ample shows/PR to build around.
The A's ratings aren't "horrible"--they have issues like a weak-signal/FM flagship radio station; an uncertain stadium situation made worse by a terrible owner...if the A's had a new stadium and more available radio station I think they'd have better ratings.
If they continue to win, some of these things will take care of themselves.
It may be CSN-California .... for me, I live on the Monterey Peninsula and work in Cupertino ... A's game on the radio start to degrade in Gilroy .. I end up using MLB @ Bat for the audio feed. It's frustrating because even that dumps out a couple times at the county line. It's frustrating as all hell. I read a truism a long time ago that the biggest difference between the A's and the Giants: KNBR.
Rich, How do you support yourself? It's certainly not from this site. You are a international jewel thief? Come from family money? A boy-toy for a elderly cougar? Inquiring minds need to know.
I'm not wildly rich nor poor. I put a few bucks away and I don't know if you noticed, but I have quite a few new advertisers on the site. It's not enough, right now, to live on but I'm making strides.
I'm not a boy toy but I did go out on a date with Joey Heatherton long time ago.
Have you ever thought about doing a post on local celebrities and their real versus stage names? Spencer Hughes, Ronn Owens, Kate Scott, etc. It would be fun for us to see the real names behind the personalities. Sometimes the people commenting have quite a bit of knowledge, too.
If they were true celebrities and/or movie stars it would be writing about--as it is there's no interest because it's a common practice used by various people.
I needle a few people on it but the more I think of it really doesn't matter much.
They don't use their real names, in many cases, because they don't want stalkers. Believe it or not, stalkers are a real problem with media in the Bay Area. Most of the stalkers are mentally-ill and will often try and pass themselves off as a relative of the stalked person. It can get rather scary and restraining orders are not uncommon.
And then some of us use fake names because our real names are, say, Polish or have other Eastern European roots and they're just too bloody long to frequently pronounce correctly. For me, anyway, that's the primary reason. Stalkers are secondary.
Rich, what are your thoughts on the new Cumulus country station at 92.3 FM? Do you think it will do any real damage to KRTY, or will Cumulus manage to screw this one up too?
I'm not a big country music fan so I really don't care.
As for Cumulus screwing up, of course, they've already done plenty of that, check their stock price and all the radio stations across the country they fucked up.
She's in the six-figure area, probably more than most people think--he's relying on her coattails --the other little people I haven't a clue, I was too busy noshing on this egg-salad sandwich.
How long can the Game actually last with no ratings ? Does the station have deep pockets ? The morning show is horrible but so is KNBR morning show. I actually like Bruce in the afternoon more then Tolbert and Ratto.
Entercom has deep enough pockets and they've said their in it for the long term...as in sports/FM in SF. If they can make incremental increases and capture more market share and demos, then as long as they're making money, they'll survive.
On the other hand if they lose the A's, (contract is up after '14), that could thwart their long term game plan, (no pun intended).
Here's another about Radnich. What do you make of his constant touching of Cathy Heenan? I NEVER see any male anchor get touchy feeling with the female workforce. But Radnich always makes up some bs to get his hands on her..on air. And ideas whats going on? She seems to enjoy it.

"You've never ever over the years have had to retract what I said,or accused me of deceiving anybody."
Why would Lieberman have to retract something Stan said? Lieberman doesn't stand behind people's idiotic comments. He publishes comments, he doesn't suggest that the content is accurate. Clearly most of the claims Stan makes are unbelievable nonsense.
841,Not true. But I guess if you are so anti Stan that you want to call me down for saying I'm a bull as in the real animal, knock yourself out. It would be the usual anti stan tactic at my sharp opinions...ignore the point that you DO get and hate..and come back that my prose isn't worthy, since its all you got as a retort. Sound familiar?
