Michael Savage Ire and Energy, Hey Just Relax; 415 Media Blog Radio 24/7 Mini-Test Saturday KSCO; Friday Notes Starter

Funny really that Michael Savage draws so much ire and energy --pro and con--among the masses.

Put aside the all the venom, the occasionally magnificent theatre, the stories and Savage is the greatest, most brilliant, funny, on terrestrial radio.

He bends, he screams, he's a loose cannon personified with a penchant for the extreme--an entertainer with a broad scope of enemies, advocates, and listening devices.

I find him intoxicating swell with hilarious, compelling, unpredictable audio staccato --on good days, a bonus monologue about the virtues of Italian meatballs, an Indian buffet, indigestion and a conspiracy theory about how Chinese food can lead one to consider extreme liberalism --I don't even waste my time with the politics--Savage transcends that trivial pursuit. In fact, if you listen closely, politics is merely the appetizer before the main courses. Sure, it's an acquired taste not fit for everyone's menu but it matter of fact produces some of the best material on an otherwise dreary radio panel. If you want saltines then listen to the others, I'd much more prefer rye crisp and a bowl of clam chowder, New England, of course.

*This blog becomes your immediate source of RADIO!, beginning Saturday morning from 10 AM to Noon. I'll be hosting the "Saturday Special" on KSCO and there's a SIMPLE, easy way to listen, participate, irritate, whatever...Simply CLICK the upper right of the blog under the KSCO logo, whether it's your laptop or smartphone. No need searching links or beholden to electronic mafia, you just click and you'll be there. I tried it Thursday and it sounded great. Our topic on Saturday is media matters and some surprises.

*You want superficial phoniness and bland critique then I'm not for you. I will give you my honest thoughts like I did about KTVU, and KGO, and KRON, and KPIX, and KNTV for that matter. I don't play favorites, I'm an equal-opportunity shit disturber and I'm consistent. So go ahead and take your shots and pick your poison --I'm all ears. Consider this though...

1. I've been on of the biggest Larry Krueger critics on the planet. But when the Comcast guy took some unjust hits, I supported Krueger.

2. I was ripped endlessly for my frequent love letters about KTVU and how great, still, the 10 O'clock News was and praised them to the max until I sensed a series of lousy detours and called them out. Including their crummy management guys who don't know the ways and means of being PR savvy. Wonder Boy, I can understand, but GM Raponi? Proverbial suit guy with way too many appointments on the 17th at the Olympic Club.

3. Damon Bruce and I are fire and ice. I don't think Damon is great by any means but when he's into it and doesn't inflate his gigantic ego he can produce some of the very best sport-talk radio. And when he's posing, I'll make a note of it. And here's something else: I don't have to love someone and he don't have to love me to register an honest critique. See sentence 1.

4. Gary Radnich: If there were ever a definitive definition of "Hot and Cold."

  1. The Comcast guy wrote his hit piece on Larry Krueger out of pure envy.
Krueger has an excellent job in radio and the Comcast guy wishes he did.

    1. It wasn't a hit piece, it was an interesting commentary. And seriously, no one in their right mind could envy Larry Krueger.

    2. Yes, Krueger *has* an excellent job in radio.

I notice you didn't say he *does* an excellent job.

      He sucks.

And what's the definition of a "hit piece" nowadays? Four lines of a bigger story? What kind of wuss does somebody have to be to consider that a hit piece?

  2. Stop trying to rewrite history. Makes you look more pathetic than usual.

  3. "Put aside the all the venom"? Are you serious?
If you took the average Michael Savage show and cut out the "venom"-- the nonstop vicious attacks on President Obama and his family, the anti-immigrant rants and fear-mongering, the racism, and the general nastiness of the man-- you'd have about five minutes of talk about his dog.
And Savage's "stories" about his dog and his millionaire life-style are not interesting in the least. They just provide a short break between the nasty, ongoing vitriol.
I realize Savage gets high ratings, but please stop kissing his rear-end simply to get closer to the warmth of his popularity.
You might get a stopwatch and use it during Savage's shows. The "politics" is the main course, it takes up about 90% of his air time, and it tastes rancid and sour.

"Unpredictable"? Give Savage 15 minutes and all you get is nonstop predictability-- you can practically recite the next bit.
(And yes, I have listened to Savage. Just long enough to support my comments on him.)

    1. Yes, Savage is an inspiration to those who refer to OVER half the voters in this country as "libtards". What a guy!

    2. Hey look the liberals are sticking up for themselves where they all cowered in the corner yesterday afraid to post when Savage supporters came out in droves. Keep smoking your reefer and smiling on one another.

    3. 9:40 you are so spot on. I have listened to Savage of and on for the last 10-12 years, and have found the same. He did have an interesting point last week, when he said we were lucky that McCain was not elected, he believes McCain would have gotten us into too many wars, or war situation, which would have cost us zillion of dollars, not that his view on McCain softened his view on Obama, of course not. To 12:44 who is cowered, or did you mean hovered in the corner. I can see why you listen to Savage,

  4. The Comcast guy? Just say his name Lieberman. He is a media figure, geez.

  5. Radnich update: Radish head took it upon himself to prove he has influence by pushing for the re hiring of Bob Fitzgerald. First,it must mean Fitz's contract is up,and second if Fitz really was in danger of losing his job? Radnich wouldn't say a thing in support. So,Raddy does his usual win-win "out on a limb".
Also,Raddy was bragging about having younger wives with a caller. Then the guy mentioned the not hot first wife rich guys marry before they have money..and Raddy the sociopath never blinked..said nothing. Just froze. I always know truth hits nerve with that guy when he freezes like that. His wheels cant think fast enough to change the truth.

  6. Fred Biletnikoff was on KNBR..he has an announcers voice. Its a wonder he never went into broadcasting. He made a joke about being the slowest Jewish white guy in the history of the NFL. I had the radio a bit low while cooking some Spam and egg..so don't quote me on exact wording.

    1. Priceless, gourmand Stan, eats Spam for breakfast. No big surprise there, Stan has been spamming the internet for years.

Only Stan would need to turn down his radio to cook Spam. Stan, you can't cook Spam and listen to the radio at the same time?

      Delete
    2. Stan an example of that old adage, You are what you eat.

Finally an explanation of what's wrong with Stan, Spam dementia!

    3. So now you know. And now you never have to post you don't read my blog that you read, or my posts here that you read every one of also and say are incomprehensible to you.
You, the voice of republican common sense!

    4. I don't read Stan's blog. No one reads Stan's blog. For some reason Stan chose to comment here at 415 Media about what he eats for breakfast.

I am curious however why Stan has to lower his radio to cook Spam. Is cooking Spam so mentally taxing for Stan that it requires his complete concentration?

      Delete
    5. Stan a Spam lover, of course, that makes perfect sense. Stan, the self-professed, "beloved liberal icon" eats Spam.

    6. If anything, I'd think one would turn the radio up over the sizzle of anything one is cooking, especially spam.

What's more, I don't think Stanley was trying to invoke the more intentional comedy gold of the Python's famous Spam sketch, but was per usual, his usual unintentionally comedic self...

    7. No, Monty Python would be way to clever for Stan. Also he'd be chagrined by their lack of racial diversity.

    8. Stan:
Turn up your hearing aid, Fred Biletnikoff isn't Jewish.

  7. Savage referenced what you wrote in this article today around 12:40. I guess he reads you.

  8. If its true that Bob Fitzgerald's contract is up - Please let him go! He needs to be gone from the Warriors as well. There are so many positives with the Warriors and well, then there's Bob. He's competent and all, but if you have been the announcer for 20 years and your not beloved (ala Kruk and Kuip) you really need to go. Does any one really associate him with the Warriors the way they did Bill King and would anybody really miss him? Unfortunately for Bob, we have gotten to know what kind of guy he is thru his radio show, and he is so smarmy and unlikeable, its hard to forget that when he is calling games. One benefit of the Warriors being relevant again is that you hear a lot of Tim Roy's calls on the national updates and he sounds great. I would replace Fitz with Tim and Tolbert tomorrow.

    1. Agreed, please get rid of Bob Fitzgerald.

@1:06 says it well. Fitzgerald is "smarmy and unlikeable."

Also he is an INSUFFERABLE HOMER. I don't mind if a local announcer has a moderate local team bias but you can't be so far over the line that you are dishonest and lose credibility, that's Fitz.

He's the ultimate Warrior apologist and constantly making excuses for them when they lose.

Enough already. Wouldn't mind if KNBR dropped the terrible Fitz and Brooks show as well. But that's another story.

  9. Fitz has been the ultimate brown noser, and that's why he is where he is. He sucks up to everyone he needs to, and is smarmy and annoying to everyone who can't do him any favors. Only an idiot like Chris Cohan, the most incompetent owner in the history of bay area pro sports, would have approved of the move to get rid of Greg Papa and hire this annoying shill. But unfortunately, he'll probably stay put at both jobs. I would love to see the guy thrown out on his tush, because he is one oft the most insincere people in the broadcast industry, who sucked up and back stabbed to get to his current positions.

    1. Completely agree with the Fitzgerald comments. Silver-spoon guy who floated through Notre Dame, couldn't hack an Accounting job, and then swarmed his way into broadcasting. Can't believe he's still broadcasting the Warriors. He's the only local guy, that when he's on, I will switch to the national broadcast. You would never do that for any of our other local teams. I hope Lacob fixes this problem.

      Delete
  10. Don't expect that to happen, as I'm sure Fitz has been sucking up to Lacob and his minions from the day they took over after buying the team from nit-wit Cohan. The worst in Cohan's stable was Robbie Rowell, his hatchet man. Rowell thought his own farts didn't smell. He was an autocratic little prick who alienated just about everyone who worked for the Warriors. But he loved it when people sucked up to him, and that's what Fitz did from day one. I'm with 3:12pm. I love Jim Barnett, but can't stand Fitz. I too, will turn off the local TV to listen to the national broadcasts whenever the Warriors are on so I don't have to suffer through Fitz and his bloviating nonsense. It's too bad for Barnett though, as he broadcast for a team that basically sucked from 1995 (the year Cohan and his ghouls too over), to 2011, when he finally sold the team to Lacob and Guber. Having to dealing with Rowell and Cohan, and then broadcast the games with the insincere and slavish 'Fitzie' makes Barnett eligible for some sort of a medal!

  11. Fitz does a solid job broadcasting Warrior games. He knows the team and what makes them tick. And he does criticize players when it's appropriate. I think a lot of folks dislike him for the job he does on his afternoon radio show and allow that dislike to carry over with his Warrior broadcasts. Yes he can be an asshole on "Fitz and Brooks" but is quite like-able and competent doing Warrior games..

  12. One of the benefits, of the Warriors being in the playoffs, is watching the TNT broadcasts, as opposed to the abomination that is Fitzgerald.

  13. As far as Savage is concerned I guess what Marilyn Monroe said is true, and I'm paraphrasing "I don't care what the say about me as long as the talk about me", she might have said "as long as it isn't true" anyway Rich is right Savage does create controversy, and since I usually comment, and since I'm NOT a Savage fan, I'm as quilty as the next guy.
