  1. Why not put a link to Stan's blog there on the right side of this page, block his posts here so we don't have to see them and the trolls who encourage him? Your site would be improved.

    1. I'm not offended by "Stan's musings" and think he's, for the most part, mildly amusing. I've heard and seen worse. Stan is occasionally entertaining therefore he's always welcome until he goes off on some pointless rant which he does from time to time.

    2. We need more Stan, not less.

He's brilliant, at times almost clairvoyant. .My only complaint is he's starting to go soft of Raddy. Stan needs to be more vigilant.

Why not give Stan a regular weekly column. Rich, Stan is your young protege. Why not help him follow in your footsteps and secure your own legacy.

    3. Pointless is just a matter of opinion. My worst is better then 99% of what others put out. And if you compare my send in's to twitter people thoughts.I'm a frikkin Freud and Shakespearean combined!..
And,at times I try to do the public good and fit in something OT. Simple as that. Like any beloved bay area LIBERAL icon would try to do.

    4. @1046 I get the impression Stan is anything but young. I'm guessing in his 60s.

    5. Like I said, the sarcastic trolls (10:46) who encourage him.

    6. Or, 11:15, Stan posting under Anonymous at times in an attempt to portray himself as having 'followers'...

    7. "Freud and Shakespearean", Stan, you're being modest.

I would say Stan is like a combo Freud, Shakespeare, and Albert F'ing Einstein.

    8. Is it unrealistic to consider Stan as a possible Pulitzer prize winner? Who else is better at what he does? NO ONE!

      Delete
    9. Thank you ,thank you 349,1247, and my public. Being a beloved liberal icon is something I will never let the people down on. A responsibility I do not shy from. Go Obamacare! and melt all the guns down and make plowshears!
The haves will not rule the have's less in my world. A vow. Thank you.

    10. Wondering if the Nobel Prize is out of the question?

      Delete
    11. I bet Stan thinks he's the Messiah.

    12. What am I missing?

Stan is a crackpot troll who has been kicked off of other blogs for his persistent idiotic comments. He even has his own blog that nobody reads, ZERO COMMENTS.

So he comes to 415 Media and posts his typically off topic, self-aggrandizing nonsense and Lieberman promotes him. Plus, he is being encouraged by sarcastic comments that poor old Stan foolishly believes are sincere.

Pulitzer prize? That's a joke, HELLO!

Rich, maybe it's time to pull the plug on Stan and end this nonsense.

      Delete
    13. Nobel prize for Stan? Hmm, wonder what category he'd qualify for.

      Delete
    14. 1106, Yes, you are missing plenty. I am loved for my bay area liberal beliefs..no wavering or wishy washy views. Same now,and tomorrow.
You 1106, are a vegetable, and nobody likes to eat you.

  3. What's in the future for Bay Area TV and Radio?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Radio is pretty much dead with a few exceptions and TV has a long road to clean up its act. The Internet has changed everything, no big news.

      Delete
  4. Sometimes you post items that are pure speculation and half-truths, yet you pass them off as gospel. Why do you not publish comments that set the record straight?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No, YOU post them as "gospel" and "speculation" which is untrue. I've always posted based upon sources and inside people--like MOST in the biz who hit and miss, I'm no different --I have hit and miss too. I do my best to get it right.

"Set the record straight?" I'm far more accurate than some of the amateurs are and I know what I'm talking about. That doesn't mean I screw up but my record is pretty good compared to others.

  5. So what happened to Lamont and Tonelli's "super producer" (Sully) on their morning show on 107.7 The Bone? Yes, it's mindless. But it's entertaining.

  6. Why is Monday a key time period for him signing with us? He is set to be in Washington until Tuesday. I can see Weds as that would be the day after his visit has concluded.

    1. I never said "Monday" was the gospel but I do believe he, (DJ) is set to get the ball in motion today after the Wash visit.

  7. Given the Free Agents the Raiders have brought in, what direction should they be looking @ #5?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Dude, please tell me Djax to Oakland is going to happen. I just started following you. Give me a reason to believe you!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Raiders have the MOST cap space and means to get it done and he's, (DJ) has indicated Oakland as his first choice. And barring some unforeseen collapse, it's a done deal.

      Delete
    2. Daniel Schneider is throwing buckets of money at DJ

      Delete
  9. Normally a team should be built thru the draft with some holes filled with FA. Because the Raiders have so many holes they've been forced to do this backward. What are the results going to be this year? Is the strategy going to work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They've added some quality players and mixed and matched at positions. I like Scwaub and MJD and Woodley, Tuck and James Jones too. Desean Jackson is a GAME-breaker though, the quintessential IMPACT player. Will it work? Can't hurt.

      Delete
  10. Who won Saturday's "Streets of San Francisco" contest?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Why is RM continuing to do "his homework" if he's already made an offer to DJax?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Raiders/RM are continuing to vet and do background checks on the various reports, mostly untrue, involving Jackson. The contract is already in place and is really the easy stuff. If they find something particularly disturbing yeah, then they'll be a speedbump. I don't think it will get to that.

      Delete
  12. So, what position do you think the Raiders will draft in the first round?
    Any chance they go Manziel?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No Manziel.
Either Samie Watkins or the SCarolina pass rusher.
Or they may trade down and get more picks.

    2. Personal opinion on Manziel or "inside info"?

  13. What are your thoughts on the recent changes at KSCO? When is your show launching? It's nearly a year since your graduation from KOMY, what technical issues are still being ironed out!?

  14. Have seen some "where are they now" inquiries about Van Amburg, and some other former Bay Area newscasters. I was wondering about some of the old-time sports announcers, specifically Don Klein, Bob Fouts, Monte Moore, and Hank Greenwald?

    2. Why is it the criterion for everyone being an acceptable person in our fratboy society is you must want to have a beer with them? Since when did something that trivial become the metric?

    3. Maybe I've been watching too many Dr. Phils.

      Delete
    4. One Dr. Phil is too many (episodes, or the actual person)

      Delete
    5. Went to college with Hackney...was fairly shy and quiet off the air. Somewhat different persona on air...smooth, controlled, confident, prepared. Looks haven't changed in 30+ years. Net-net, though he would not be the most interesting person to have a beer with....a bit too plastic and stiff.

  16. Why do so few groups perform each year at Shoreline Amphitheatre and the Concord Pavilion ? Did Clear Channel or Live Nation have something to do with that and run that business aground after buying Bill Graham Presents ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The concert business has become consolidated and mixed up. Plus few acts these days can fill up an outdoor arena unless it's Bieber, Madonna, U2, Billy Joel and Springsteen, I'm sure I missed a few but you get my drift.

      Delete
    2. 8066 - your observation is spot on and Rich you've got it right for the most part. There are many more acts that can fell sheds like Concord and Shoreline especially in the new age of co-headline and package tours. Fewer acts come by the Bay Area for several reasons but they all come down to $$. It's the bottom line. Downloading has killed the industry. The album/tour cycle is dead. In the 70s and 80s really up until the late 90s bands would release an album a year and embark on a tour only to return to the studio later that year and start the process again. Now that album sales no longer matter touring cycles are extended and include territories that were no exploited during Bill Grahams time. Eastern Europe and South America are BIG marketplaces and bands can stay on the road longer by hitting these markets. Combine that with fewer new bands having the opportunity to build an audience due to more package and co-headline tours and you see less acts stepping up to the bigger venues. Now it's common to see a bill with two big acts say KISS and Def Leppard (only an example) with either a lesser known "legacy" act ie: Heart or Cheap Trick as the third band or an unknown whereas in decades past KISS or Leppard would headline alone and have one or two newer acts open then these acts would have an opportunity to build an audience and do the same thing themselves. This doesn't happen when $125 is the ticket price for a decent seat. The Bay Area was once a stronghold for music but look around, most of the great clubs are gone and even headliners who used to be able to play the Cow Palace or Oakland in the Fall/Winter (sometimes for multiple nights) and then come back and hit both Concord and shoreline in the summer now pass on the Bay Area completely - due to not being able to get their guarantee money upfront. There are as many scenarios as there are bands that pass on the Bay Area but you get the idea.

      Delete
    3. the 7,000-9,000 midsize amphitheaters (the Greek) are what's most efficient these days for crowd size / expected ticket sales. plus, locally in the bay - another planet entertainment is the promoter who has the most pull for bookings vs live nation or goldenvoice. APE controls the fox & the greek - both of those venues have put a serious dent locally in the business of live nation and goldenvoice. APE has the relationships, plus the $$$ to overspend on booking artists vs live nation & goldenvoice.

    3. I liked Bernie when I agreed with him, if you didn't he sounded arrogant, however there are so few good liberal hosts on the air in this area, so if he found a spot somewhere I would definitely listen.
I often listened to him when he was on KGO, and he does his homework, and is intelligent, he was a good talk show host, even though he could be annoying, and although I'm liberal, I often disagreed with him.

  20. So can we bank on DeSean Jackson being a Raider

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. "BANK" is something you take $$ too. But I'm pretty certain at the end of the circus, DJ will be a Raider unless they found out something like, oh, say, he killed somebody and so far he hasn't.

      Delete
    2. "So far" being the operative words here.

If OAK wants to continue to be the butt of jokes, then I think they should hire Jackson. He'll fit right in. Sure, he has some talent, but he's in the same cohort as the Vicks and Hernandez's of the world.

So, it looks likely that the 'derz will sign him...

      Delete
    3. Raiders are desperate, have tons of $ to throw away AND a player willing to go there. So yep, DJ will be a Raider.

  21. I know that when Fitz is critical of a Warrior player..that means the team wants to dump him. And when Raddy was doing the bully pulpit on Melky Cabrera..and now Pablo Sandoval..I get the feeling he is doing what the Giants want.
Do you think local teams actually tell KNBR hosts what attitude to have? AND they "reward" those hosts for their efforts? Seriously.

    ReplyDelete

    1. So true about Fitz being the canary in the coal mine w/regard to the team souring on a player. When Fitz begins to publicly turn on a player during the broadcast, he's just taking direction from his Master. He's such a toad.

  24. Hey Rich...what's going on with our favorite gal, Amy G? I love her cutesy interviews from the dugout. Always look forward to Krukow and Kuiper throwing it down to here so she can give us the latest Pablum. But seriously Rich, what's her status? Do the Giants and Comcast really like what's she's doing, or she on the 'hot seat' this year. And speaking of Comcast, how is Jamie Sire doing these days?

    2. As far as I can tell many so called devout Christians don't act in a way to be expected from them. I'm not a Christian nor am I religious in any way, other than I'm spiritual, I consider myself an agnostic. However, I grew up in Denmark and went to school there in the fifties, Denmark is 97 percent Lutheran, and back then religion was taught in school, since we do not have separation of church and state. I believe I have a good idea about how a Christian should act. Mu parents rarely went to church, they didn't talk much about religion, although I believe my mother believed in God, however they acted like true Christians. When Denmark was occupied by the Germans 1940 to 1945, they took in a Danish police officer whom the Gestapo was after, he stayed at their house in the country for 6 months, he was not family, just a close friend of my Dad's cousin in Copenhagen. After the war was over they took in a French teen age girl for six months, don't know if her family was killed or just temporarily misplaced, perhaps they just didn't have enough food. My parents were not rich, at times even poor, but because we lived in the country and my Dad was a gardner we always had enough food, fresh vegetables, fruit, chickens and eggs, we always had a warm house, and throughout my childhood, I remember my parents giving to the Salvation Army, and other charities, even though we often struggled financially. I was adopted towards the end of WWll, when things was tough. Actions speaks louder than words, if you don't act like a Christian your are not one.

  29. How does Damon Bruce think he can survive on 95.7 when their signal is so weak plus competing against KNBR when they have rights to Giants and Warriors games not to mention those who listen to other stations during drive time?

    ReplyDelete

    1. It's not about him competing at all. He has a one year contract, more money in his pocket and is out of KNIBBER where he wasn't liked. Give him time ... he'll be as unpopular at The Game. He's in it for the bucks. Someone in a desperate situation was desperate enough to negotiate the move.

  30. To 9:52 AM. I enjoy the presence of Brian Hackney. I find him knowlegable, competent and not prone to inane chatter. Since I am not likely to encounter him off-air, his personal comportment is not relevant.

  31. Rich, I've often wonder, why do I regularly see reporters like Amber Lee only work KTVU's 10 pm Newscast while Rob Roth only works the 5 pm & 6pm Newscast? Is
it something to due with perhaps seniority, salary or prestige? Also what ever happened to Maureen Naylor formerly of KGO & KTVU? Haven't seen her
on the air with KTVU in months? I liked her work along with Debora Villalon on
both stations. Also why is San Francisco based Reporter KTVU David Stevenson still so stiff, nervous uncomfortable & bumbling his words whenever he does Live Reporting? Is it because he talks too fast that he constantly messes up? Even
after being on the Air since 2005, Stevenson still does live reporting like it is his
1st day on the Job!! Keep up the Great Work Rich!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I try, I really do, but pledge day, hour, minute is such a turn off whenever it hits. It just seems silly when suffering through commercials as well. And then, they offer to give you a CD that you can pick up for say $20 for your $250 donation. And they think you want to start out at $250. Gee Whiz!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. What should they do, give you a flat screen tv? They do it because it's cheap to them, if there is any cost at all, and they give you a little "incentive." It's also laziness. It''s not the little donator they're after, anyway. So, they give a little 10% donation back, hoping for the big spenders.

  34. Both of my questions are in regards to KPIX...

First - Why is KPIX making Roberta Gonzales go out for day in the morning to report on the weather?! Shouldn't it be the other way around, with Karnow going into the morning elements, after all Roberta has been at KPIX much longer than him, & has more senority.

Second - Did Julie Watts have a baby late last year? I noticed when delivering her reports late last year she looked like she had a baby bump, then she disappeared during the holiday season. When she returned back to KPIX she never mentioned that she had a baby, or maybe I missed her announcement...

    Thanks in advance Rich!

  35. Rich, I'm literally gagging as listen once again to Amy G. giving her breathless, immature reports as she sounds like some valley girl. How does she stay on the air? Why do Larry Baer and/or Ted Griggs allow her to be on the Giants broadcasts? It's embarrassing and annoying and as a Giant fan, it ruins the broadcast for those of us who are not into the soft, puff pieces that she seems to love do. Why do they allow this travesty to stay on the air Rich? WHY?!

    ReplyDelete

    1. Simple. Because Baer runs the joint. He can do what he wants and let the market decide. It's America. The guy with the gold calls the shots. Enjoy the game.

    1. Because he's good at it. He can also do talk well ... when he wants to. The radio world isn't made, however, of just one-wing talk.

      Delete
  38. Rich,
I'm curious why radio in the US is such a dung heap. I advise lots of startups, have been cofounder of several and read business models and plans for fun. If you could point me to a book, case study or other well-reasoned understanding I'd appreciate it.

I'm very web savvy and was literally in the room during the early days of audio and video streaming. I know the relative costs of streaming vs. over the air broadcast. Cars are still being sold with radios. I know the value of monetizing web content, but am constantly amazed that radio has failed to do so since it is much lower cost to produce and distribute content. TV is having its own problems, but that's a different question.

It seems the aggregation of stations along with aggregation of ad and media sales has created homogenous dreck that makes one long for the days of payola from the A&R bagmen. At least money made it out to the stations and there were people who faced the public every day.

I've observed that so many of the right wing talk radio guys are frustrated sports broadcasters. They can't get paid for talking sports, few can, so they turn to subjects where they literally make up nonsense. It's as though they're telling their audience, "That Colin Kaepernick is one heckuva outfielder for the Denver Sharks. He's shooting par at Daytona with his incredible 4 point free-throws." Since they do it with no lack of self-doubt the audience over the years of repetition starts mimicking the nonsense. I've been to construction sites and truck stops where they're listening to this kind of nonsense and nobody is laughing at the absurdity.

  41. Question about KSCO line up. Do you know why is Charlie Freeman is on at 12-2 and not Ethan Bearman or others that were on at noon? Then Charlie comes back at 4? What is the deal? Also where is Marc that used to be on Thursday at 2:00? Is this permanent because it is on their program summary and they rarely change that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'll answer my own question. Despite what the program summary says, Charlie Freeman is only on fro 12-2 and it seems to be M-F. At 4:00 Dave Michaels and a guy named Lackey (?) are on together and it's kind of a quirky, funny show where they don't take things seriously and they also present weather and traffic. It's refreshing not to hear Charlie's awful music and constant Obama bashing and really he does better fit in his new time slot although Ethan Bearman was the best of the lot and he is doing something online now. I still don't know where Marc landed.

  42. Kate Scott has really taken on a diminished roll on 9-12. Hardly says anything. Like a beaten up performer. Do you think it's from public criticism or has KNBR told her to keep it low?

  43. Charlie is now on 12-2. Dave Michaels alone from 4-7. Other programming like the Costa Report 2-4. Don't know what happpened to Georgia. The Liberty show at four may be off as well. Don't know about Marc, yet. MZ is experimenting with "major changes" to KSCO. Nights still feature George Noory. Rush still on at 9. Good Morning Monterey Bay remains the same. Don't know of weekend changes.

  44. I caught the first 20 minutes of the new Damon Bruce show on 95.7 Ya know, Papa and Bruce are a solid back to back. I'm no big fan of Bruce..but I didn't bother changing the channel until later, only curious what Tolbert would be up to while Bruce was at a commercial.
Bruce though..needs a partner. He just would be better then going on and on with no other view. If he handpicked- fine..but even an agreeable lackey would help.
My feeling is on the new show...he's a Dave Grohl. Just like the Foo Fighters front man cant get away from sounding like Nirvana, Bruce isn't changing much.

I think he will make a dent in Tolberts ratings. "Dent" where have I heard that before?...
