A Free-Thinking 'Lib-er-al' has Issues with Barack Obama

One of the many things I've posted here is the repetitious, predictable offerings of some of the President's most frequent critics on radio...Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, and Sean Hannity. I've left out a few others, but you get my point.

I'm not a conservative. More a deep thinker and tend to be independent. I'm more center-left, but I like to look at all the issues and make my judgements based on certain events and circumstances, accordingly.

In other words, I'd like to dare say, I'm more or less supportive or critical and am not a he-can-do-no-wrong advocate for Barack Obama.

This hasn't been a good weekend for the POTUS. And more to the point, his advisers have to do better. A whole lot better. And I'm no GOP operative or strategist. In fact, I voted for Obama, twice.

    1. Christine, my prediction was that Romney would win the popular vote, but Obama would win the Electoral College...kind of a reverse of 2000. Obama's margin surprised me, although a switch about 340,000 in votes Florida, Ohio, Virginia and New Hampshire would have turned those four states...and the keys to the White House...over to Romney.

    2. Mark, Christine is an expert on so many things. That includes being wrong on just about everything!

  2. sorry, mark curtis is a hack. I still remember when he came on Owens' show and in response to a caller's question, remarked how Rick Perry was going to be a strong candidate and that Perry and Bush were great friends and that he was going to inherit Bush's political machine.

In fact, Perry and Bush loath each other intensely. After that, I disregarded anything that Curtis said.

    He's a good contrarian inidcator

    1. @12:52

I said Rick Perry would be a formidable candidate because he had: 1) a great fundraising operation; 2) he had huge Tea Party support; and 3) was from Taxes, an electoral powerhouse state. So he came into the race with a lot of assets, but squandered them.

I never said he and Bush were friends, because I have no idea of their relationship. Nor did I say he'd inherit the Bush machine (although I think fellow Texan Karl Rove may have been on board). Tying one's wagon to Bush in 2012, would have been toxic to any GOP candidate, and none did.

The one indicator I did not know of in advance, was just how poor a debater Governor Perry was. His extremely poor debate showing, especially his faltering memory, did him in.

As a veteran reporter of nine Presidential campaigns, I am hardly a hack. My predictions are based on a mix of data analysis and gut feelings - they are not endorsements, nor do they come with a guarantee. If I was a perfect predictor, I'd be in Las Vegas and not on the campaign trail!

      Cheers!

  3. Even if he did wrong, you wouldn't hear about it in the mainstream liberal controlled media. He gets a pass on everything. Kind of a joke what the media has become today.

  4. Rich a self-described "deep thinker" - that's like Barbieri calling himself an intellectual. Thanks for the laugh.

  5. l:04pm are you kidding me? Fox news rips Obama every chance they get just as they used to rip President Clinton. I loved it the time Clinton was on with Fox's Chris Wallace and reamed out that smirking little know-it-all.

To say that the media is liberal-leaning is one of the most stupid and repetitive things that conservatives continue to claim. Who owns the media anyway? How many media companies are there? Media deregulation has driven out the smaller, independent companies, so only the big-box media companies now exist, and most of them have strong conservative leanings, especially Fox.

Back in the 1960s and 70s, the Conservatives didn't have their own (Fox) news network, and they probably had much more of a legitimate beef, but today most broadcast companies journalists are in the back pockets of big, conservative moneyed interests.

The way the media failed to see through Bush and Cheney's false claims of WMDs that led to the war with Iraq in 2003 never would have occurred 25 or 30 years ago when we truly had real journalism and journalists who were professionally trained and matriculated through the 'minor leagues (smaller markets) rather than these talking heads and pretty faces, who wouldn't know a news story if it came up and bit them in the ass!

Also, one reason a lot of journalists may seem to have liberal leanings is due to the fact that conservatives have been in power for many years, and a journalists job is to be skeptical and thorough, and not buy into whatever the powers that be are saying.

Remember this; the left in this country are not exactly thrilled with Obama either, but for different reasons, but you hear a lot more complaining from conservatives about Obama because 1.) He's more left of center than conservatives would like and 2.) He's black.

    1. I believe he said liberal media. Fox is definitely conservative. Fox is the only one that seems to call him out. NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN....all fragments of what they used to be years ago when real journalism reigned and they weren't publicity machines for the Democratic party.

    3. Post at 2:42 you are wrong.
Barrack Obama is from a white mother.
      Please explain your last statement.
By the way, after you accuse this poster of racism.

    An inconvenient truth.

  8. Tony says him being black doesn't make him suck any less. He stinks like a cruise ship.

Tony remembers the clinton interview and applauded when he laid into Wallace.

  9. Exactly 2:42pm, if you disagree wth Obama, you are a conservative white male racist. Got it. You've captured the liberal talking point spot-on. Why don't you grow up and realize his skin color has very little to do with it. But you're right, outside of FOX every other major network are composed of diehard conservatives controlled by Rupert Murdock look-alikes. What a dope you are. Except for CBS, every other major network is in the bag for Obama, just like many major newspapers (NYTimes, LATimes). Yeah, Chris Matthews is an objective, honest commentator! Brian Williams, David Gregory, Andrea Mitchell, etc, etc, etc. Keep smoking your crack pipe. I oppose Obama, so I am a white racist!!! Keep telling yourself that and drink Axelrod's Kool-Aid. Yum, yum.

  10. The only diffrence between Obama and Bush - skin color. Both are as dumb as a rock on a mountain cliff. Need advisors around to decide which way to tumble. Best options available - NONE! That is scary. You think 8 yrs of Bush was bad, wait till Obama finishes his 2nd term. This country needs a Bill Clinton type decisive leader. Make decision and stand by it.

Mark Curtis - No credibility even with that dumb hair piece.

  12. It's funny how whenever you are critical of someone who has conservative leanings, they accuse you of calling them a 'white racist.' That's so juvenile 1:01 am. You sound like this angry friend of mine who lives in Houston. This guy thinks the government is trying to take away his guns, so he's got a 'safe room' and has assembled thousands of rounds of ammunition for when the apocalypse arrives!

    1. Typical liberal twisting. When a conservative speaks the truth you twist it until it resembles something you can argue about.

    2. Duh, 10:02AM. Read 2:42pm's note. Here, let me help.

"Remember this; the left in this country are not exactly thrilled with Obama either, but for different reasons, but you hear a lot more complaining from conservatives about Obama because 1.) He's more left of center than conservatives would like and 2.) He's black."

I was responding to comment #2 and it's link to conservative viewpoints. Understand now?

  13. Hey 10:35 am, I didn't invent obfuscation and sensationalism, but your 'friends' at Fox certainly know have mastered those lowly qualities. And as far as your favorite party goes (the GOP), yeah, they've done a great job playing the obstructionist game and holding this country hostage so that they can score points with their friends. If I were a true conservative, such as the late, great William F. Buckley Jr, with whom I seldom agreed, but of whome I did respect, I would be really pissed off at these idiot tea bag partiers who have hijacked and fractured the Republican Party. The Dems are hardly a great party either, but the GOP is rudderless and is currently the party of LOSERS!

  14. You bed wetting liberals have nothing but excuses. Face it, Obama is a failure. You all lap up the crap that the liberal media feed you. And to deny the existence of overwhelming liberal media bias shows utter stupidity. Of course, that goes hand in hand with supporting Obama. Morons.

    ReplyDelete
  15. If Obama is such a failure, then why is his approval rating almost as high as it was when he was first elected? You right-wingers just love to rip the guy any chance your get because your party is made up of a bunch of out of touch LOSERS! You and your ilk are fortunately not what the future is all about. If conservatives and right wingers were so enlightened, then have the overwhelming majority of today's bright young voters rejected your backward thinking philosophy?

    1. People like his talking point plan to redistribute wealth which many (falsely) interpert as rich people will be forced to give part of their fortune to less fortunate people (aka THEM). That's the narrative. The reality is that most people will see over the next 2 years their paychecks diminish significantly as Obamacare takes full effect. The money from the rich people will flow to the government (his golf vacations are expensive!) and not them. So sad, too bad. They will eventually realize how screwed they really are.

    2. Hey 9:40, Obama's approval ratings only mean there is no shortage of morons in this country. Especially the masses of ignorant young voters you mention. Obama's spending away their future. It just drives you bed wetters crazy that your half black Messiah turned out to suck ass. He's an economic illiterate and he's running the country into the ground. The man is not qualified to run a lemonade stand. Deal with it.

  16. Oh yeah, I guess your hero George W. Bush was SOOO much better! That guy got us into a war using faulty information, tried to gut environmental legislation that had been passed by REPUBLICAN lawmakers years before, and wasted a huge surplus, turning it into a huge deficeit. And he also signed bills that allowed for deregulation of industry which led to massive layoffs and off shoring of American Jobs. Yeah 10:22, your brilliant Republican friends did such a good job. You should wake up and smell the ca-ca my friend! You're the one who's delusional. You're also probably one of those idiots who clings to you bible and guns and thinks Obama was born in Africa. What a sad fool you are! It's idiots and fools such as YOU who have helped to bring this country to it's knees! Plus you're a racist pig! Who cares if Obama is half-black? So are millions of other Americans. You just can't handle it, so you have to mention it and it helps give you more ammunition to go after the guy. Why don't you go to Mexico where you can live behind some gated community?
