Time Magazine Sucks

I think they're trying to sell a magazine this week.

  1. That displays the double standard in this country..if a caucasian feeds her kid that way, she's educated, modern, and independent.
If she was a black woman..it says dumb lazy ghetto female..a nut even.

    1. I kind of resent this gratuitous claim of a double standard.

If the picture was of a similar looking black woman, with no difference except her skin color, I don't think I'd react any differently to the image.

Also, I just don't feel like there's a prevailing stereo type about "dumb lazy ghetto females" breast feeding their children.

No doubt that there's a great deal of racial prejudice in our society but I fail to see how the magazine cover reflects that.

    2. Easy Stan...

No one thinks a kid that old should be breast fed.

    3. AHA!...It turns out that the hot blond has an ADOPTED black son. Now,if that was a 3 year old black kid...it would be considered..I dunno, porn? For sure it would truly shock people..and never would be on the cover.

  2. Such a blatant, cynical attempt at generating magazine sales. But I must admit, I've purchased 10 copies so far. And I'd have given $10 million to be that kid. If I had $10 million, that is.

  3. That's one hot MILF that's for sure. Very few mothers look this hot at the playgrounds I frequent with my kids

  5. Attachment parenting? How about nipple swinging Sesame Streeters

More like lazy-ass Skank parenting. Drive-through mini-boobs at McTeats. "Small, Medium, Or Large" Combo, or boobs only. "I'll take my order to the nipple slip and slide swings"

New category for Time "Boob Of The Year".

Slow Times at Time-Life. Next month. 90 year-old lactating woman still nursing 62 year-old son-dairy farmer.

  8. I was a continuous subscriber to Newsweek Magazine for 35 years but after issue after issue of ten-page spreads on movie stars and gossip I ended the subscription. I almost subscribed to Time ... glad I didn't. Print media is desperate for readers, it's really too bad that we've devolved to this.

I pity that kid when he gets to third grade and all his friends "Google" this picture and bring it to school Cutey-pie mom better have money set aside for the counseling the kid is going to need.

  9. Agree with Anonymous @7:10 am. Both Newsweek and Time are on life support. I subscribed to both for many years but gave up as they grew skinnier and stopped doing serious news and issues. Newsweek keeps trying to get me back by all but giving it away, and I still don't want it.

As Ronn Owens said on his Friday show, that kid will be the most teased, and the most envied kid among his peers when he gets to middle school. They could have at least framed the picture so that the kid wasn't looking directly into the camera.

  10. Appalling.

Women have lobbied, rallied, and tried to educate others about the benefits of breast feeding and that it's NOT sexual and it's NOT something that should be done in some nasty old dirty public restroom.

And THIS cover smashes all that effort by publishing a photo that is almost pornographic.

Breast feeding mothers everywhere must be furious!

    1. Well-said 2:13! You took the words right out of my mouth. This has set the issue of breast feeding, a perfectly natural thing to do, back another 20 years. I am furious -- both with that mother (what was she thinking agreeing to such a cover shot??!) and with Time magazine for using such a salacious photo to boost sales. Just look at the comments here -- people saying they wish they were that kid, that they want to buy 10 copies, etc. Digusting.

  11. I dropped my subscription about 5 years back when they ran a cover article. "Can God make you Rich?"

  12. Slate has a good article speculating when cavewomen stopped weaning their spawn. Probably somewhere between ages 3 and 5. Women in some primitive tribes breastfeed their kids until they're around the same ages. All of which is to say that breastfeeding a kid until he or she is three (as in the Time cover photo) isn't all that unusual outside the U.S. There are nutritional benefits, breast milk helps boost a kids immunity, yadda yadda.

True, folks in America get squeamish about any woman who breastfeeds beyond three months. But given how many people are obese in the states and have dysfunctional relationships with food, I'm not sure Americans should be telling the world's women what they should be doing with their titties.

As for the photo, I don't see the problem. Then again, I'm an adult so I don't giggle like a seven-year-old everytime I see a hint of a breast. I give the Time editors credit for picking a provocative photo. They know American readers are immature, and figured out a way to press their buttons. Mission Accomplished.

OK, I'll shut up now so the rest of you can resume your giggling.
