Longtime KTVU Reporter Lloyd LaCuesta Retires; Channel 2 Southbay Correspondent was at Station since 1976

Lloyd LaCuesta

Lloyd LaCuesta, a KTVU veteran street reporter and the station's South-Bay bureau chief, has retired. LaCuesta has been at the Oakland Fox aff since 1976 and won numerous industry awards.

He announced his retirement on his Facebook page.

In addition to presiding over leadership of a multitude of Asian journalist organizations, LaCuesta won Emmy Awards, received honors from the Peninsula Press Club, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Associated Press. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asian American Journalists Association in 2004.

LaCuesta's low-key style and consistency earned him a bevy of plaudits both in the Bay Area and beyond.

LaCuesta will continue to work at KTVU through June, before calling it quits.

  7. Lloyd Lacuesta is a great reporter and the antithesis of slicked hair Da Lin. It is not about you Da Lin! Lloyd is an avid tennis player and remember seeing him many times at the indoor courts in Pleasanton. More time for tennis is always good! Enjoy retirement Lloyd, I will miss your reports

  9. Lloyd will enjoy his retirement in the fall of each year fraternizing with the Yorks in their Luxury Suite in the new stadium in Santa Clara...And why shouldn't he, Lloyd's reporting of the Great America Stadium helped the south bay in the thief...LOL!

Enjoy it Lloyd, you've earned it. ;-)

  10. I'll miss Lloyd. The poor guy was always stuck at the Highway 17 Summit in the worst weather imaginable. If there's any justice in this world, he'll be retiring to a sunny beach somewhere. Best wishes!

  11. Nice to see that there is nothing but praise for Lloyd here!

I did some TV interviews with Lloyd some years back when I was a media hack for one of the big green organizations. He was always SO pleasant and did a respectful and informed interview and story.

Many people criticize the media for not doing their homework, not realizing that people like Lloyd may cover several important stories each day. Lloyd would read the media packets (of course MINE were always top notch!) and ask intelligent questions and present an intelligent story on air--always making sure to get the other side and make things balanced.

Lloyd deserves an Emmy! Bravo bravo bravo!

  15. No schtick, no pizzazz, no b.s., just plain good old fashioned "reporting." Imagine that. You don't last this long as Lloyd (especially in this market) by looking good (Got that, Gary Radnich?). You last this long by BEING good.

Like an old friend, your non-presence every night at 10:00 p.m. will be sorely missed.

Good luck in this new phase of your life.

    1. wow-Same thought here. Especially when old Gary said who's lasted over 20 years in this market? Of course Ralph lasted 28 years, and Gary's beloved Cumulus still dumped him with the trash.

  18. Another first class pro and a solid journalist leaves the scene.
Probably to be replaced by another empty-headed newbie with limited experience who will be paid peanuts!

  19. Best of luck to Lloyd. Caught a glimpse of Randy Shandobil the other day and forgot how much I missed him. What has become of Kraig Debro? KTVU has a roster of new reporting talent, some not so bad, but man, their technical operation during broadcasts is still a major train wreck.

  20. Total News Stud. Happy retirement Lloyd. One of the Bay Area greats. Is there anyone in the market close to what KTVU had in the 80s and 90s?
