Radnich/Krueger Confirm that Lee Hammer is a KNBR/Cumulus Puppet; The Radu/Nettles Story Only on 415 Media; Wednesday Dish

OK, so I'm taking a drive down 880 and almost laugh so damn hard I have to pull over and be careful not to cause a multi-car pile-up.

His highness, the master one that I'm obsessed with--the guy that keeps on giving, is slobbering all over his boss, Lee Hammer, I mean mucho-slobbering, I love you even though you ain't the big guy here at lovely Knibber, which leads to the LOL story.

This is a beauty. As Raddy would say, listen to me and listen to me good.

While talking about Dub's Larry Riley's dismissal, the great Rad-U had an unintentional brain fart. And his dimbuld sidekick added insult to injury without realizing how foolish both of these vanilla wafers are. Moving on...

GARE-YEE, took a Lee Hammer, (KNBR's upper tool) turn. Said Raddy, "I get e-mails...'Lee Hammer did this--Lee Hammer did that...Lee Hammer is not the guy who makes the decisions--it's a management deal."

So, Raddy, what you're really saying, (for the 99th time) is that Lee Hammer is a puppet, a hand-picked Stanford guy, (yeah, I know he went to SJ State, but stay with me), who really doesn't pull the major strings, right? Well, we sort of knew that. (Tepid laughter, until...)

Until his back-up utility woof, Larry Krueger, in between knee-pad verbal audio of how "such a great guy", LH, is, went one step further: "You need a 'front man", (backing up Raddy about how power-less Hammer is and that LH comes to 55 Hawthorne courtesy the Dickhead brothers who run Cumulus and are Stanford guys.) And LH, we already know, is a COMPANY MAN, and a Stanford man, (there's a broadcast connection), to boot. Gees, what an amazing phucking coincidence.

OK, I'll admit, I have a guilty pleasure. I tune in now to the man who continues the gift that keeps on giving...Especially when I hear the great Radu made a pointed reference to this spot on Monday, (see, he can't help himself. He claims that he never reads this but somehow he keeps up on it--maybe he's a ventriloquist). Good work, interns and $9-an-hour producers. Just mav!

**THE GREAT GARY/NETTLES LOVEY-DOVEY STORY

The next time you read or hear about how much a swell guy the great RadUnich is, remember this beauty, told to me by a former anchor he worked with at KRON many years ago.

While pushing hard to become the main anchor at KRON, (and largely successful), one night, at a time that weekday anchor, Tom Nettles was on his way out out the door, Radnich said something to Nettles, (nobody knew exactly what), but whatever it was must have hit hard.

Nettles, according to the anchor, was literally crying as he left the studios and drove home. Crying.

Now this isn't a forum for the "I love Tom Nettles" fan club. As I said earlier, Nettles never did anything for me and other than being a good-looking, female-admiring sports guy who didn't much have an ad-lib in him, nonetheless was, from all accounts, a total pro and went about his way without ruffling any feathers, (which may have ultimately cost him his job)--that said, don't it sound sorta weird and non-fuzzy that he'd leave the building crying after a Radnich encounter. I don't think it was because he had a bad golf game either.

**Christine Craft, one of the few remaining credible talk hosts on KGO, will sit down with Ross Mirkarimi on Saturday, (early Sunday 12-5) and talk to the ex-SF sheriff and presumably will get a whiff of his story. Craft, an unabashed supporter, thinks Mirkarimi has been "railroaded", her words, not mine.

  1. ?? I'm still trying to understand what the bomb here is on the Radnich story: we knew that Cummulus' modus operandi is to "empower" puppets, who then abdicate all their real power to Atlanta. They (John Dicky Hisself) even said, "we have a fairly shallow hierarchy here at Cumulus." Indeed: There's the peons, there's the local overseers -- that would be your Hoselys and your Hammers -- and there's a single market overlord, locally our guy Bung-A-Roth. The overseers quite blatantly take their cues from Atlanta, and direct their underlings to make it so; Atlanta proceeds to eve drop on the proceedings via the Cummmmulus Cam in the Conference room. None of this is news...

  3. Christine Craft was on KSCO last Saturday and she really had the coastal community tied in knots. She presents her arguments well and defends them confidently. Her show was quite entertaining and hopefully she is on KSCO again soon.

On another topic I find John Rothman's way of debating very enlightning. He will disagree vehimately with a caller and yet handle the oposing view so respectfully that it completely disarms the caller. Quite a skill in my opinion! The opposite would be Fitz who thinks people who disagree with him are morons who are wasting his time.

    1. Too bad! I missed Christine Craft on KSCO, she gets the good ol' boys in Monterey county riled up. Unfortunately KSCO's insistance on carrying Rushbo in the morning then switching to a taped Alex Jones at night is a HUGE turn off. Top that with the old hag owner whom Taliafero rightfully attacked for her stupid "editorials" and MZ's bogus polls about whether to keep or drop Rush, I have not tuned in a long time. I bet lots of former KGO listeners have stopped listening to KSCO as well. MZ: YOU BLEW IT!!!!
Although his other hosts are proficient they are not must listen to radio. The old guy in the afternoon is a very poor man's Gene Burns.

    2. Shoot, I'd love to hear the podcast if they have one for her show. I know it's a scant chance, but if there is one, could you spread the word?

    3. I like Christine too...but a caveat. I live in Santa Cruz, and it doesn't take much to tie this insular, provincial place in ideological knots.

  4. Look,I know I posted after the Ralph firing, that Raddy's love for Cumulus execs expressed was going to hit nauseating heights. And he has gone forward with that full no shame. "Bill and Lew","I'm lucky to have a job I love, and then yesterdays "Lee is a great man,he has love in his heart"..that reeked of butt kissing.
I get the feeling old Gary isn't ready to join the workforce without every last breath of begging and groveling.
And I bet Ralph is not feeling too good to hear the butt kissing either..How many times did he think he WAS, Mr.KNBR?..and they treat him like trash tossed out..
    Yep,that Cumulus..what a great people company!

Jen Violet and Alisson Janey(mentioned in the other topic)..two good candidates for wardens at the local women's prison.

  6. Rich, didn't one of the KRON anchors diss Radnich for running out Nettles ~ on air? It was the only SF channel we got where I lived so I watched it nightly. I liked Nettles. You are correct, though, he wasn't a relaxed sort of guy, but he was all-business, which I prefer to the ex-jocks with their loud mouths, poor grammar, etc. (Radnich and others included.) I can't watch ESPN anymore or the NFL channel. It's not locker-room, either, at least any locker room I was a part of. It's just juvenile cow dung. Unbelievable that Radnich lasted this long, but he appeals to the Neanderthal sports fan. The ones in nose-bleed sections who drink beer (well, now they smoke dope and snort white powder and pounce on visiting fans, at least at 49ers games.)

  7. Let me get this straight....

The proof of what a devious back-stabber Radnich is that:

an unnamed former anchor says that Radninch once "said something to Nettles, (nobody knew exactly what)" and that subsequently Nettles was crying as he walked out the door.

Talk about second-hand hearsay! And even if were true, since no one knows what he said, it's all irrelevant anyway.

  8. The big problem with most of sports radio is that the programming is geared to the lowest common denominator. So instead of interesting, insightful, important stories on pro, college, amateur, and recreational sports, we get the kind of dreck that we've been hearing for years on KNBR and now also on the new
    FM station.

Guess what guys? Not all listeners of 18-30 year old guys.
Women listen, kids listen, people over 35 listen, jocks listen,
even well educated people listen. But it seems as if 90 percent of the noise and nonsense, the soft 'entertainment' that sports radio peddles, in every city (not just the Bay Area) is geared toward the loud, obnoxious, attention-deficeit, younger crowd.

Guess what guys? Many of them are listening, but only for about
5 minutes, then they're back on the smart phones, texting their buds, facebooking and tweeting, or perusing the internet. Wake up...your ratings will continue to suck if you continue to program to such a limited audience.

  9. You mean Lee Hammer does what his bosses tell him to do? Shocking!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But there's doing what your told and then there's embracing what ever the bosses do like a stooge would. Including a cold email saying a 28 year employee was let go. Even Lacob did a video homage to Monta the harasser.

Lee Hammer? held the door open for Ralph so it wouldn't hit his ass on the way out. That's Lee Hammers gold watch to Ralph.

    2. @5:41
How are you in a position to know anything about Lee Hammer's attitude about firing Ralph?

You guys really don't know anything about Lee Hammer and you're carrying on like he is the devil incarnate.

Ralph was fired because he deserved to be fired and now he's gone. Hallelujah!

    3. How? Just what Dibley (You can NEVER comeback to KNBR!,Hammer told me,according to Dibs) said about the loving Hammer heart or Ratto "Lee Hammer is a card carrying conservative"..or even Radnich "Lee and I share sensibility's"..from the money hungry company stooge Radnich..that's not much of a compliment.
And then there's the Lee Hammer no effort to hire people of color.
      You want more?

    4. @04:09
      1) Ray Ratto said that "Lee Hammer is a card carrying conservative" - Yeah, so what? That's not my cup of tea but hardly damning...

      2) Radnich said that "Lee and I share sensibilities" - So? That's supposed to prove that Lee Hammer is diabolical?

      3) Lee Hammer, no effort to hire people of color, what about Rod Brooks?

"You want more?" - No, actually I want something, anything, instead a bunch of empty bombast.

Talking about bombast, what about Barbieri's big law suit? How come nothings been filed. Maybe that's just a whole lot of bombast too!

  11. Google: Gary Radnich
Results: Gary Radnich claw hand, hand deformity, left hand etc...
It looks like this "little" site has some traction. I had never seen any hand references pertaining to Gary. Uncle Gary is ashamed of a three fingered hand? Grow up dude. Now we know why he yells over everyone, he wants to prove he is DA MAN as long as the hand remains hidden. It is sort of a hand version of the Napoleon complex. We could call it the Uncle Gary Complex. That explains a LOT!!!

    1. There is a guy out here in the East Bay with a major hand deformity. MAJOR. He used to tend bar at a local hot spot, and now he works for a major big box store. Great guy, very competent. Not on welfare, and not hiding it.

  12. One thing that might be noted about Radnich is that, through no effort of his own, his timing was perfect. The 1980s saw a new trend in television sportscasting--that of the informal, wisecracking, and irreverent sports anchor supplanting the traditional serious type. Radnich happened to be the first in SF and contrasted sharply with his fellows. It happened elsewhere too (we don't necessarily invent everything here); in Los Angeles, young impertinent newcomers such as Fred Roggin (still at KNBC) and the inescapable Keith Olbermann changed the TV sports game.

This style was manifested in the snarky, condescending frat-boy approach perfected by ESPN's "SportsCenter." No longer were sportscasters all bland good guys (or revered ex-jocks).

So maybe he's become a caricature of himself after all these years; a fresh face he ain't. Is he the reprobate some say?--who knows? But when he arrived at KRON and did or did not chase the Dentyne-commercial semi-finalist Nettles out the door, he had the good fortune of being the first of his kind.

Hey!--remember when USF Dons coach Bob Gaillard had a star turn as a KRON sportscaster?

  14. Gary could stand to lose a little weight. What's up with the redness in the face? And when he took a swip at Rick Barry's hairtransplant, I wondered about Gary.. his hair was thinning 20 years ago! Gee, I wonder..

    2. 1021--When they do outdoor shots..you can see Radnich gray hair coming through the dye. And yet he does long bits about why would men dye their hair? I've seen Radnich do that sociopath act on many topics. And he doesn't blink an eye as he tells his whoppers.

      Delete
    3. 10:43 - "sociopath act" HUH? Do you even know what that means?

Suppose he actually dyes his hair, which is entirely speculative at best, you think lying about it would make him a sociopath?

  18. As long as people continue to talk about Gary, he'll be important in the bay area media scene, like it or not.

As someone once said: "I don't care if they spell my name correctly or not, and I don't care what they say about me, just as long as they mention me!"

That could easily be a direct quote from the Gare.

Also, I wouldn't write off Gene Burns so quickly. He is well liked, well loved, and never underestimate the human spirit. He's not trying to run the 440 in the Olympic Games, he'll chat with us like the wise uncle or grandfather we used to have. Well, wiser than most of our kin!

  21. IT FIGURES DEPT: KNBR host Kate Scott expressed her dislike for Lisa Guererro. The same Kate Scott who AFTER BEING HIRED BY KNBR,complained on air that if she had a latin sounding name and dark hair-she wouldn't have been held back in the business. Yes,blonds are never seen in the media-you never see a pretty blond on TV do ya? And the conversation started over..a blond female sportscaster she admires.

But boy, learn how to suck off the right people and you will get ahead. And that's especially true in broadcasting.
