He's crafty, adept, has a superb beat on the media pulse with a bevy of clients, and from everyone you talk to in the business, is the very best contract lawyer/agent around.
He's super-agent, Don Buchwald.
His most celebrated and famous client is Howard Stern, but there are numerous others. Like, say, Ronn Owens of KGO Radio.
Buchwald negotiated Owens' multi-million dollar deal,--a contract like others, that has very specific language in it that is non-breakable. Client-friendly? Oh, yeah, then again, Buchwald's list of clients is full. Usually, you'll have to call him. He won't call you, and even then, unless you're a part of the LA-NY, (and maybe SF) media circuit, good luck being a part of his inner circle.
That he represents Owens was a major coup at the time for Ronnnno. As Owens' deal comes to end on Jan. 1, 2013, it's highly likely Buchwald's services will no longer be in the offing.

I say hats off to Ron on this one! Looks like he and Buchwald knew something everyone else didn't....
ReplyDeleteNow it's time to take the money and RUN!
I'm wondering if Ronnnnnnn will get a goodbye show.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, he is probably not returning Ronnnnn's phone calls. Then again, with the disarray in media who the hell is this guy going to represent in the future? Michael Savage today made a very cryptic statement. He said a huge "tsunami" is on the verge of hitting the major players in radio....he sounded very serious
ReplyDeleteOf course it’s serious. Radio and Television as we know it is basically going away. Technology has changed the way information and entertainment are consumed. Broadcasting led to narrowcasting which is going to "individualcasting". I crack up when some of the posters here blame "...Reagan...Republicans...Deregulation..." Technology is changing everything, rapidly. Change with it, or get left behind. To put it bluntly Technology is causing a race to the bottom in media pay, ask Karel.
DeleteRon who?
ReplyDeletebaba booey baba booey
ReplyDeleteRonn could gracefully retire, but he still sounds pretty good, despite the haters, but I doubt that he will have a contract with 810 anything close to what he has had. I doubt if he will stay. In fact, if you listen to their line up, live and syndicated, the quality of the talk show hosts is low so it appears that 810 is going on the cheap. The local news angle is boring. National news is on at strange times and coverage is minimal. Perhaps they've found a way to make big money for the "suits" while their ratings dip. Still I do love Lynn Jimenez; Michale Finney Brent Walters and Jon Hamilton actually are interesting. I enjoy Christine Craft when she is on and don't mind Copie on Saturdays. If they don't keep Ronn, their ratings will plummet worse than they are. I'm betting they will get Rush Limbaugh on in the a.m. next year or someone equally as horrible. Sad.
