Friday Holiday Media Notes; KCBS; KGO; 95.7; Kruk back at Giants post

*KCBS is airing "traffic update in less than two minutes"; maybe KGO's inane "first traffic" is making the traffic gurus nervous at CBS.

*NBC Bay Area is trying mightily but so far, the results haven't changed. The numbers at night aren't moving up and the new team hasn't struck magic. Same old song.

*Give him credit, Damon Bruce last night, (co-hosting the 49ers PG show), at least acknowledged his sudden 86 from the 9-Noon slot with Raddy. "It just didn't work, " said DB. Right, and the guy who thought it would is breathing a little heavier too. There's way more to this story which we're still digging at. Stay tuned.

*Mike Krukow returns to the SF Giants cablecasts tonight after a three-day absence. His brother-in-law underwent major surgery at UCSF and Kruk has had his mind on other things as you could imagine.

*Tierney and Lund: Did you see your 95.7 Arbitron ratings for August? Yeah, keep that resume fresh.

  1. Where can we get the August ratings?

  2. "It didnt work" isnt saying much..its saying nothing.
And as far as Radnich and his new co-workers..Kreuger is taking the cautious approach with Raddy. Kate Scott already has reached the Dan Dibley level of frustration on hearing Rad mans arcane philosophys of life...and She's dropping the "Focus " word on him like a bomb left and right. Your readers might remember I was the one who pointed out that word gets under Radnich's skin last year..and its still the fastest way to needle him.
Scott-you have to feel for her as Radnich spends two hours amazed at his self revelation that they dont have parades for second place teams. No wonder she throws her hands in the air.

  3. There is DEFINITELY something up with the Gary "Gas Bag" and DB split. Each and everyday during the show, Gary like a countdown would say...It*s day #5...It*s day #6...the 3 hrs. were like a prison sentence to him, having to share his spot light with someone else was just eating him alive inside. And why would someone take their vacation just as the "New Look" show was kicking off?? He was also late coming back from his va-ca...Hmm..

  4. Kate's refrain of "Talk to the callers" when he addresses some nonsense for her to respond to is also going to get on Gary's nerves after the 100th time...but she is right

  5. The worst today was when Gary took a caller and then immediately cut him off on some tangent only for Kate to remind him he had just taken the caller...

  6. All good posts above.
I too agree that Radnich needs to keep the show focused on sports. When Damon Bruce anchored that show, the subject was SPORTS.
There are days when I feel I am listening to Entertainment Tonight with John Tesh or Jan Wahl doing her Hollywood Calling show.

KNBR 680 could live up to it's name sake "The Sports Leader" with Damon Bruce at the helm.

  7. The KNBR hosts are always cutting off callers. How many times have they dump a caller after 30 seconds when the guy was waiting on hold forever just to fast track that Kuiper or Brent Jones call in? I understand that not all callers are great but it isn't like these VIP "mysterious callers" shit gold either. They can wait an extra 30 seconds while the hosts RESPECTFULLY wrap up the caller.

Gary use to have some regular callers a few years back. And Damon had his for the Three-Play ("Send it in, Jerome!"). And then they sush these guys off thinking they want to let in new callers. The result has been an alienation of long time listeners. Having regular callers made it interesting. If they want new voices, they should start with the hosts for something different. They've gotten much too laxed with their jobs and how they treat listeners.

  8. Those Radnich "regulars" have disappeared because they've graduated from junior high.

  9. NBC Bay Area at night is not working. I know you like Raj, but in people's minds, he is still a sportscaster, not a news anchor. There's no chemistry between him and Jessica. Enough said.
