Sportsradio 95.7 adds 49ers color analyst Davis for new PM talkshow

Eric Davis, the ex-SF 49ers defensive star, and new radio color analyst, has been added by 95.7 FM and will be doing a four-hour PM drive show, (2-6 PM, beginning August 1)

Davis is also an NFL/49ers analyst on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Davis should be a good addition to the new FM outlet, mixing both his background in the NFL and sports in general and providing first-hand knowledge and opinions.

He comes across as level-headed and no-nonsense. He's also shown an astute analysis of the game on the camera; how that translates to radio nobody knows, but I'm guessing Davis will be a solid addition for the new radio outlet.

“For over twenty years I've had the opportunity to get to know passionate Bay Area sports fans as a player and a neighbor and now I’m ecstatic for the chance to bring that conversation to the radio on SportsRadio 95.7FM,” said Davis.  “I look forward to talking sports on the drive home every afternoon.”

  1. He's not going to do 4 hours by himself, is he? They must have plans to pair him with another broadcaster. The word is that a former New York sports talk show host is coming to 95.7

  2. Great... to bad E Davis sux he says nothing of interest and only obvious observations he'll be worse than private plye in the morning who says absolutely nothing, not funny brings nothing but bad radio and now they hire this no personality stiff! 4. interesting in that he will be working 49er games on KNBR...

  5. and he's allowed to keep his Niner's gig on the KNBR/Bone network? didn't Starkey have to give up KGO to be allowed to keep his Niner's gig when KNBR got the rights?

  6. Remember, Eric Davis works for the 49ers, not KNBR. The 49ers produce their own broadcasts, not KNBR. He can work for another radio station as long as it's approved by the Niners. KNBR has nothing to do with it.

  7. Folks might want to take Davis more seriously since he's the guy who picked off Aikman to deny Dallas' Threepeat in the 1994-95 NFC Championship at Candlestick. Davis might be more prepared for 95.7 than we give him credit for.

  8. Davis defends Alex Smith past the credibility line. He was hired by the 49ers because Plummer snapped after watchng 2 years of Singletarys backwards idea of coaching.
The positive is that 95.7 adds diversity...but I sure as hell wish he's not more Rod Brooks-diversity that you sure don't hear.
But I tell you-95.7 morning show is better than KNBR's..its not a great morning show, but is better then the Sesame street puff of KNBR morning. 10-1 of Jackson and Dibbs is giving Radnich a run..When Radnich goes Hockey and race cars, and Dibs and Jackson are talking A's and Giants, bye bye Raddy. Dibley is learning-he needs to be funnier like he was at KNBR-add more jabs to Monte's blowhard ego(but Monty does offer some non suck up to local teams opinions)..but to his advantage,Dibs not an ex pro for a local team,he doesnt visit Don Nelson in Hawaii,he's not tired and counting the days down to retirement.
But,I think 95.7 missed a great chance to add even more diversity by giving Jim Kozemar a ethnic co host. Brodie Brazile is pretty much going to be "Comcast will be proud of how I don't rock the boat"..just listen..

  9. Kozamor and Brazile are just fill-ins. They're not permanent hosts.

  10. nobody worth listening to on 95.7 so far....they'll probably hire rick twittle next, lol...

  11. I was looking at the 95.7 Facebook page. There are rumors that Brandon Tierney formerly of ESPN 1050 in New York City is joining the station. I don't know if there's any truth to the rumor. Tierney's Twitter page mentions that he is moving to San Francisco. He was fired from ESPN 1050 NYC in April. If the rumor is true, I wonder where he fits in. Perhaps during the night?

It also looks like Eric Davis will be doing his 2-6pm show along with Chris Townsend. Davis was supposed to come on Townsend's show this evening. I didn't listen to it.

Rick Tittle is getting an audition on Wednesday from 1-3pm. I hope he does well. He has a strong cult following among A's, Raiders and Earthquakes fans.

A lot of things are happening at Sports Radio 95.7 FM...

  12. Radnich segment on KRON isn't sponsored by Mercedes Benz anymore. That was a fast withdrawal by MB. I guess when you sponsor a host famous for driving a Jaguar...

  13. Bob Raissman of the NY Daily News reports that Brandon Tierney, formerly of ESPN 1050 in N.Y. will be hired as a afternoon drive host for 95.7. If this is true, it's a good hire. Tierney is opinionated and talented. 95.7 needs good hosts. The station doesn't need to be a East Bay version of KNBR. We need an alternative to the "sports leader". 95.7 needs to have a more broad based appeal.

  14. As long as Davis gives equal Raider time, I'm ok with this.

  15. Ok,I see Kozimar and Brazile are office temps. What's going on there? Today Dibs 10-2pm..just a lot of shuffling day to day.
I'm not sure why Eric Davis is given mid day. He seems too sedated, and too much of the ex jock who wont be critical. Oh,he's worlds better than Byrnes who I'm sure Davis would crush, but he's not going to outdo the KNBR people at that time. I hope I'm wrong-but I doubt I am.
Hey,maybe Eric can tell us abour the 49ers getting skanks from the stands..

  16. I agree with the poster who said that 95.7 shouldn't try to become an "East Bay KNBR." It should try to be a better alternative that includes ALL Bay Area sports teams.

With that said, there are gaping holes in KNBR's coverage of local teams. Not only do they completely ignore the A's but also the Raiders, Sharks (unless it is playoff time), and Cal.

Obviously KNBR is annoying to listen to if you're an A's or Raiders fan. However, there are tons of Bay Area sports fans who are not fans of either MLB team or either NFL team. These transplanted fans don't care for Giants minutiae 24/7. 95.7 FM is much easier on the ears for this large group of Bay Area fans.

  17. there are A's fans????

    ReplyDelete
  18. @ June 28, 2011 3:19 PM Yeah, they're the fans who cheered on and watched four world series championships. If you are a giant fan, you might remember 89, that was us.

  19. Rick Tittle has a "strong cult following". Really, what 3 relatives and an ex Jehovah Witness A's & Raider fan living in Concord?

  20. I think that 95.7 has NOT been a eastbay KNBR. Unlike KNBR on the teams they carry and owners,95.7 have been critical of Wolff. Sound criticism too. They brought up even that Brian Stow migh have really been obnoxious prior to his attack...KNBR/Radnich said they wouldnt take any calls on that!
Now,if 95.7 can bring latino's and Asian on air,THAT would so unlike KNBR. It would be fairness.

  21. sooooo, there are A's fans when they win world series only? (although you should look up some attendance numbers - '72 - 921,323, '73 - 1,000,763, '74 - 845,693 (11th out of 12 AL teams while going for a 3-peat!!!)

  22. Man, if it weren't for the Giants, Red Sox and Yankee games the A's would be averaging something between 13 and 15 thousand per date. yikes!

  23. June 29, 2011 1:00 PM Cute statistics, too bad the A's outdrew the Giants in the Bay Area before ATT&T. It's ok, I have sympathy for your inferiority complex.

    ReplyDelete
  24. yeah pretty cute, that's a good way to describe it -
from 1968 when the A's arrived until 1999 when the Giants moved into their new park the A's outdrew the Giants in 16 of the 32 years - since then, well.... and btw, born and bred a Cardinal fan - and as far as inferiority complex, that is pretty funny coming from an A's fan ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. @June 29, 2011 5:09 PM Boy, I'm sorry I got you all riled up, little guy. Forgive my mistake then, the A's and Giants have drawn comparably before Att&t, better? Still kind of dispels the notion that the A's are alone in attendance struggles over the years. I can further illustrate my point in simple pictures if that would help your Mid-Western comprehension.

  26. p.s. sorry Rich, that was the last comment. Just sick of A's bashing.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This is rich-Radnich bought Kate Scott flowers. Proving that Hammer and others know Radnich cant work with male co host-too much ego. And,its just a matter of time before Scott gets tired of the pat on the head. Flowers..sheesh. He doesnt do that for his wife.
THEN Rod Brooks spotted at the Cubs game...yep,with his frat boy and girls, friends like you would think-waving beer too. Rod also looked to have a good ten years on all of them.
I could have told you what his crowd would be like..I think we all could.

  28. you are funny, first you throw out "inferiority complex", then "little guy", insult the mid-west, then have to apologize for a comment because you are sick of A's bashing - boy, who is the one that is all "all riled up"? relax man, enjoy your team and have fun at the ballpark and have a beer (but stay away from the coffee, you definitely don't need the caffeine).. go ahead and reply if you like (& I bet you will) but I'm done with this thread, buy! :)
