Karel uses 'Darkie' phrase on KGO show; asks Obama if he 'Tap Dances' around Gay Marriage issue

KGO Radio Weekend host, Karel, (real name: Charles Bouley,) who was fired nearly three years ago when he called for the death of "Joe the Plumber", (a mike he thought was off, was on) made more controversial remarks on his KGO show Saturday evening.

Karel, who is openly gay, criticized President Obama over his stance on same-sex marriage. (Obama, who favors civil unions over the actual same-sex marriage.)

Well, he more than criticized...."'tap-dance around that! The riff was meant as a direct racial reference--not a comparison to Obama trying to wiggle out of a response.

He also ripped into Obama's stance comparing the Pres'remarks on the issue to the Civil rights movement.

"Are the darkies in the south...(paraphrasing,) happy that 'you, (Obama) think gays should have equal rights?"

To be sure, Karel's emotional outburst was heavily dripped in satire, but to utter such openly racist references, even in jest, was clearly out of line.

This, from a radio host who has been fired both in SF and LA over other controversial remarks. When Ronald Reagan died in 2004, he played the song, "Ding dong, the witch is dead" to open his show on an LA radio station.

  1. And you used the word 'janitor' when discussing Brian Copeland last week.
    What's up with that?

  2. Yep,Liberals have a bad habit of ripping other liberals who dont keep up. Conservatives only rip liberals, they are "dissapointed" in less conservative conservative's.
Obama has gone back on some big campaign promises..we still have wars,he hasnt put any dent in the wealthys' tax contribution...they've gotten obscene wealthy instead. Nobody on Wallstreet has gone to prison. Not one. Just lesser types or pyramis schemeres like Madoff..but none of the Bankers and Wallstreeters have seen a day of prison.
But a guy like Karel should look around-nobody right now is better and Michele Backmann is plain dangerous, her GOP rivals not better or worse.
Liberals shot themselves in the foot before when they backed Nader..we got 8 years of Bush for that. Karel better learn from the past.

  3. Where's the outrage? Don Imus and Larry Krueger lost their gigs for racist spew. Does this mean liberals give one of their own a pass?

  4. I think you missed his point. Karel's point and I thought an excellent one..was that African Americans rightly pointed to the 14th amendment and constitutional guarantees of equal protection under the law..to demand their federal civil rights. Now the president, a direct beneficiary of civil rights for African Americans, makes a statement that he believes the states..not the federal government shoud
determine the civil rights of another class of individuals, in this case gay Americans. Equal Protection under the law is a Constitutional principle whose principles protect all ..not leaving the decision to individual states to parse out equality in varying degrees. I can't say I would have used the same language, but Karel is right on the principle. AS for the person above who claimed that democrats voting for Nader made one whit of difference in the outcome of the 2000 election..you're full of it.. Al Gore got all the electoral votes of California..the electoral college is a winner take all system. Voting for Nader in California had no effect on the result. the key state was Florida where the actual votes WERE NEVER EVEN COUNTED.. that count was stopped by SCUS.. read Bush v. Gore..very instructive.

  5. Florida was a corrupt system I agree...but Nader did have an effect on the race,in a race that close Nader was a like a brake on Gores campaign. When Nader SHOULD have run in the 80's -he wouldnt. His last gasp to me came across as a "I told you so" spoiler..and we all suffered for a decade to a near collapse of the economy. I haven't forgiven Naders vanity and never will.

  7. Karel has the bad habit of vandalizing the credibility of his argument with the vitriol in which he makes it.

  8. Rich, you have zero credibility. The day you call out your fellow Jew Michael "Savage" Weiner for his hateful and racist rhetoric against immigrants we may start to pay attention to your "indignation" pertaining to Karel's commentary. Savage's daily diatribes carry much more venom and hate than anything Karel has ever said and you know it...

  10. Oh, Karel also called Michelle Bachman a "skank" any number of times last night. I guess that is perceived by many of you as fair game. I'm not a follower of her, but it's bad enough when people like him toss off words like "racists, criminals, traitors (the pot calling the kettle black), or killers, at anyone from the right who disagrees with them. So why not call Bachman a "skank", I suppose Palin should be called a "slut", by these wack jobs.

  11. @ June 27, 2011 11:31 AM

i think you mean Illegal aliens as opposed to legal immigrants...nobody has a problem with the people who are screened and then line up and wait 15-20 years to get here legally. but you're prob screaming RACIST RACIST RACIST right now because you're not interested in the truth.

  12. as far as Karel, why would you expect anything else from him? self-centered narcissist who keeps blaming everyone else for his own problems.

  13. The man has a mouth full of dung, and can't help but spew it when he's at the microphone. I've said it before, I'll say it again...he's an angry, bitter amateur, who has no business being on the radio anywhere, let alone in the nation's 4th largest media market.
KGO should have known better. When Karel put out the press release heralding his return to the station, he concluded it with a barb about still wishing Joe the Plumber dead. The man hasn't learned anything. KGO should cut him loose before it's too late, because at some point the FCC is going to get involoved.
Being passionate about an issue is one thing (believe me, I am among the many who wish the President would just step up to the plate on the marriage issue), but at the same time, there is also professionalism; and when it comes to broacasting, Karel is light years from professional.

  14. Karel looks a lot like Bob from "Fight Club" (the guy with lactating man-titties).

  15. Karel is a disgrace to KGO. He was a disgrace before he was fired and now he's serving up the same hateful fare.

What did they expect when they took him back?
