KNBR Sales Dept. disses the New A's/Sharks FM 95.7

There's a new all-sports radio sheriff in town, but according to a reliable broadcast source, one doesn't think that much of the other.

Entercom's 95. 7 FM All Sports Radio, which just began last Friday and is the new flagship of the Oakland A's and San Jose Sharks apparently doesn't impress the established king, KNBR, the 50,000-watt AM juggernaut that boasts the SF Giants, 49ers, and Golden State Warriors.

"An out-of-dial FM albatross that's gonna challenge us?--Are you kidding?", said a KNBR sales rep, according to the source.

Humn.

Do we have the making of some competitive juices in Bay Area radio? Not so, according to the KNBR source.

"Bottom line, KNBR feels like Entercom's new radio product is 'no match. whatsoever. They regard it as an outcast FM station with very little reach both on the dial side and client side. The A's will always be second-fiddle to the Giants and that was before the Giants won the World Series!"

And what about the rights to the San Jose Sharks too and other Bay Area sports? (potentially Stanford football)

"They still regard the Sharks as the 4th team here even though the Sharks fan base is rabid."

Me thinks a battle royale is in the making. Let the games begin.

  1. I don't know too much about 95.7's managment, but I do know that KNBR's is currently inept and possibly racist. People know the giants and knbr are one in the same and believe me, ALOT of us are tired of it.

  2. Yo Knbr...one word of advice...worry! Bout time the old n tired program, like its morning zoo, has an alternative that is of quality. Perhaps the rest of the days' programming would outskill that of the self proclaimed sports leader.

  3. Bring back COUNTRY music!! I HATE the sports format on 95.7 and i LOVE the sharks. But pleasem use a channel that isn't Loved by the bay area already!

  4. I love the Sharks - consistently the best run franchise in the Bay Area over the last decade, and they do have a loyal fan base, BUT that fan base is not large at all. Outside of the loyal 17,000 plus that pack the tank, looking at their meager TV and radio numbers, well it is not impressive at all.

  6. What, the Giants want EVERYBODY to root for them? Scared that at least one person doesn't want to drink the medicine that makes everyone love the Giants?

  7. I was listening today to the WOLF..and heard Yorks,Giant and wine sippers bashing with refreshing hate!
Also-one had a zinger for the noon KNBR duo-Notre Dame is a dirty school-like a college Enron!.
The gloves are off-and I want to hear some beatdowning...

  9. Bad sound-effects, pop culture lame morning show...old white guy talks hip-hop, reality TV and has a commercial-free 35 minute conversation with another old white guy (35 MINUTES! WHY IS THIS STILL HAPPENING MR DICKEY!) Two midday hosts who argue their superioirity with the callers, the drive time show features guys who don't want to be there (Razor on his usual crash and burn playoff caravan with the Sharks cant respect his audience and miss every show that a Shark game is playing!) Nitetime ex-pro ballplayer, current dude interested in social media more than his show...Yeah why would KNBR be scared with that stellar lineup?

I agree. The Sharks fan base is small, but very rabid. The A's have a similar fan base.

95.7 really needs to add the Raiders or Cal football (not Stanford) to be a force in this market. Ironically, KNBR ignores the Raiders and Cal so they would be a perfect fit.

  11. Here is my question to the KNBR Sales Dept...

How is it that the World Champs (after 54 years and first time in SF) have so many self serving
lame ass KNBR promos in the game...How come you can't sell the Giants out? Who cares what Mac and Mutley in the morning or the afternoon Hair Lip is doing...GOT REVENUE?

I am sure Lew's "New Man" in town is taking extensive notes on the situation and reporting directly back to Atlanta.

  15. They have the A's the KNBR has the Giants...nuff said.

  16. Unless they get a 'name', it will have about as many listeners as there are fans in attendance at an A's game.
Last time I checked there are no revenue sharing handouts in radio as there is in baseball.
