Warriors' Lacob, Bloggers, and the Usual Suspects

I've been asked to comment on Warriors co-owner, Joe Lacob's now well-pubbed remarks about bloggers and the subsequent fallout.

I've never met Lacob, but I don't think he set out to go on a diatribe against the Warriors fans that didn't have season tickets. Nor do I think he has any agenda against on-line commenters and various Warriors-related fan forums.

Like anything else, some are good and enlightening. Some provide quality information. And yes, some are nothing more than Internet gutter nonsense where trolls rule the formula and spew out hate and venom for no apparent reason. Hey, it happens. It's the Internet, sort of a product of modern 2.5 communications.

I find it somewhat ironic that one of KNBR's prime tonsils from Noon-4 PM on 1050 chose to talk about "bloggers" and the Lacob matter in a well. call it, "interesting" manner.

He referred to some bloggers as "civilian journalists" without mentioning that much of his most favorite press was provided courtesy of the Internet. (Wonder when his last print interview happened?)

But back to Lacob.

I think he was trying to make a point and it got lost in the shuffle. If he truly wants to know what struck a nerve, he may, ironically have opened up the gates to a source of major gripes from fans about his prime TV tonsil, known in cyberville as "Giggles." (Read the comments.)

Lacob didn't become a multi-millionaire because he's stupid. Whether or not that translates to the basketball court remains to be seen. I think the last thing on his mind was to wake up in Boston some day and intend to piss off a sizable chunk of the fan base.

Bloggers? Some are good. Some are great. Some are a piece of garbage. Depends on your pallate. And yes, I know my trolls are getting ready to grease up, but I'm cool with that--part of the gig.

Part of 21st century media. The so-called "legitimate" "journalists" have been so wrong lately I'd love to compare notes. We all have our days.

I know Peter King and love his work, but he was recently called out by Deadspin for his utter ass-kissing of Roger Goodell. And Bruce Jenkins of the SF Chronicle was taken to task recently by not only me, but a respected veteran journalist, (paywall) over his Giants' writings, (how 'disturbing.)

Have a blogulous day.

  1. I think it was your basic Freudian slip. He meant it,because of the heat he's gotten. That his minions Rich, found that few weren't actual season ticket holders is only common sense-who would write a angry letter to Lacob without being worried he would lose his ticket rights or some retaliation? Fans arent dumb. And,as Lacob said-he investigated the writers..hmm,spooky.
So,he saved face with his explanation as last resort.
Lacob has wanted it both ways-to tell us all he can do,while bringing back the whole gang of idiots(as Mad Magazine would say) including multi year pacts to Giggles, and not making a single trade right up to the deadline, only having his PR people have "friendly" press do articles that trades are "impossible" "nobody is available"..then of course other teams made blockbuster, to plain solid, trades. The Warriors sat. A very Cohan like start-and any blogger can see that. And why he and KNBR attack them.

  4. Prime tonsil on 1050? That's no man's land.

  5. If Lacob can't take the HEAT, he should have never purchased the Warriors...

This could have all been avoided, if Larry Ellison would have been allowed to buy the Warriors.

  6. Chris Cohan’s strategy worked. He didn’t accept Larry Ellison’s HIGHER bid for the team because he was afraid Ellison would turn the team around and thus expose him as a loser. Instead, Cohan chose these Hollywood type blowhards who he knew would be incompetent and thus keep the team in shambles. I hate to say it but Cohan you are a brilliant son of a bitch.

  8. I do find it quite hilarious that this fan, and online poster, has been one of the few to note that new rookie "wunderkid" Ekpe Udoh is shooting what, around 30% his last 10 games? While averaging about 2 rebounds a game?

I started posting these cogent FACTS around the time the GSW (and Lacob?) started floating the idea of trading 3rd-year-man Brandon Wright. He was then recently traded.

Shortly thereafter, several articles appeared touting Udoh's defense (which is good), impressive game, and "his recent improvement".

However, these local pieces *didn't* mention that he can't score, shoots terribly, appears to be a below-average rebounder (for a Big Man), and has had a horrible recent stretch. So, where did objective journalism go? Were these puff pieces engendered by Lacob?
