KNBR 86's 'racy' drops; KTVU/Sasaki/BANG-Peele blow-up part of Print/Electronic feud; Thursday Pulse

A listener, fed up with KNBR's occasionally "racy", (according to the listener,) sound bites threatened the station with legal action if they continued to play the controversial drops. One drop, played during the Gary Radnich show, ('stick that 'bracket up your ass!') was the major source of the unidentified listener's ire, but whoever it was, their timing couldn't have been any better. (At least from the listener's standpoint.)

KNBR, owned by Cumulus, (which is in the midst of buying Citadel Broadcasting, who owns KGO/KSFO) and any potential lawsuit, however frivolous and baseless, could potentially delay the acquisition. So, if you listen to his highness from 9-Noon and notice the lack of drop-central theatre, you now know why.

image*KTVU's John Sasaki, (pictured) and Bay Area Newsgroup Investigative reporter, Thomas Peele's confrontation at the Chauncey Bailey murder trial in Oakland, (as reported by the Chron's Matier and Ross) is nothing new. There's always been friction between print and electronic reporters, the main source of irritation stemming from TV guys making a lot more money than their print brethren.

I recall many feuds between the TV/radio guys and newspaper scribblers covering sports and news for K-101 in the 90's. Making matters worse is the fact that with newspapers becoming ever more scarce, the feuds have become more frequent and will probably not go away soon.

  1. Sounds like Peele has "issues."

  2. I saw Sasaki working on a report at Mr. Mopps in Berkeley a few months ago. Smugness drips from the guy, I can see why Peele would resent someone like Sasaki.

  3. The drop I heard used last week over & over was "put that bracket back in your pocket." KNBR gets carried away with drops instead of actual content.

  4. only a douchebag would threaten to sue KNBR over some foul words....i have to agree though that since whatever change in FCC policies in the last few years i have noticed Armstrong + Getty in particular using this kind of language where its not necessary also...makes them look stupid imo...and Radnich too, with all of his "Richard" "dick", "prick" type comments...no class...

  5. Funny, somebody needs to sue them for discrimination. Drops? eh.
KNBR does continue to free fall under Hammer. Radnich couldnt be any duller-same for Bruce- as Raddy who once said he hated H.S. sports talk, now is clogging up the show with HS sports talk. I can only guess, they hope to appeal to the wealthy snobs of the private schools they regularly name? Money is always behind changes in Radnich.
Damon Bruce is all gums now-no bite. Dull, dull, dull.

  6. Radnich is a classless jerk. Just because you can out shout everyone in the room does not mean you are entertaining Radnich. You have managed to ruin the Bruno segment with your insecure loudness. Read the room, everyone looks at you with disdain. You’re not funny and your lack of knowledge outside of Jet and People magazine is pathetic. I hope you’re shown the door as soon as the merger takes place. I shiver every time I hear your cackle.

  7. A class action lawsuit over how much Radnich's show sucks would be a good move right now...

"808-KNBR, your thoughts on class action lawsuits against radio mediocrity and unprepared hosts!"

  8. Nice work rich..the only thing I don't get or really don't care too get is these media mouths are highly paid! And in the end bring nothing but a headache to the listeners. I've pretty much have lost all interest in talk radio, I find RL 415 Media more interesting anyway! Keep spreading the truth!

  10. I'm a TV news photog here in SF. This fat slob Peele once had the nerve to walk into my shot during an interview. I'm not gonna reveal my identity because I've been hee for 19-years and everyone knows me...but I got in Peele's face and basically threatened HIM w/o the "Pretty Boy" reference, for obvious reasons. He tried his Faux-Macho schtick on me. But I just laughed at him and told him that he basically didn't want a piece of me...but that if he wanted a quick trip to the hospital, he was certainly welcome to try.

he didn't. He just walked away, mumbling something about the damn tv media or something like that.

  11. KNBR should be sued for impersonating a sports station...buncha non-sports crap!

  12. Speaking of Bruce AND Ann Killion,as they kissed and said goodby on Bruce's show today-he asked why they can't be together on Comcast @5?..he just couldnt take a chance and simply ask her why they took her off the show-again,Bruce has been defanged as more evidence. Ann,sidstepped by joking "yeah, lets bring back the band".
More proof that Baer,Griggs, and possibly Lacob have far too much power of what can be said on local airways. Like ego driven dictators, they censor and punish the truthsayers. I think Lacob has pushed hardest-its been his teams stinko season that invites the most criticism.
Its obvious-they tell Ratto where to go and no further and he obeys, she must not have. That show is so weak-Dan Dibbly? and Dibbly wants Rowand to start? Ann,plied with hard liquor, still could never be that stupid.

  13. Maybe the class action suit is a blessing in disguise for Radnich. I think the way his show was headed, Radnich will slip and say something really stupid in the name of trying to be funny. He would get in a hole that no one could get him out of...

  14. That, and Sasaki's a prick.

  15. SF Photog,
Remember when Gerd R. was going to throw a worthless PIX TV reporter off of the roof of a building?

  16. KNBR free for 2011 and am much happier for it. Unfortunately I must return to listen to the Giants games and will probably hear promos for the juvenile shows during the games.

  17. RADNICH IS SO DONE TO ME & IT SOUNDS LIKE EVERONE ELSE!I AGREE WITH ONE OF THE COMMENTS THAT TALKED ABOUT THE BRUNO SEGMENT,THAT HAD BEEN THE ONLY GOOD THING LEFT 2 THE BLOATED OLD-MAN THAT I LISTENED FOR, BUT NOW THAT HAS BECOME EXCRUCIATNG AS WELL.iF IT WASN'T FOR THE GIANTS BEING LOCKED INTO THEIR PROGRAMMING,NONE OF THOSE HACKS WOULD BE ON THE AIR OR THEIR PRODUCERS,ENGINEERS,REPORTERS EITHER,& DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON DRIBLEY...TERRIBLE!

  18. Print journalists get tired of the tv stations pouring over newspaper articles every morning to figure out what stories they want to air.

The print reporters do all the hard work such as tracking down sources and verifying facts. The tv anchors basically steal it.
