  1. Why does every time a "union job" have the potential to be lost, it becomes a politicized headline? Forgive me for being complacent, but in my business, where has AFTRA ever been when we have been laid off, or let go because we have been replaced by computers or cheap talent from market 112? Do they fight for us? NO.
The financial mess our great country is in is because govt has overpromised the unions fat pensions and salaries "for life" that are unparalelled in the private sector. So... according to this article we are supposed to feel sorry for the Fairmont and its union workers now that they have totally mismanaged their own funds and overpromised to the unions? I'm supposed to feel compassion for them? Nope.
    Sincerely,
A union member who was thrown to the curb and shown the door when my job was suddenly eliminated.

  2. Unions have created a tremendous crisis for California and other states. Bay area cities are in fiscal disasters because of unions. All of us pay into our retirement -- but the Police and Fire Dept. don't. Unions have too much power. They don't get what they want -- they go on strike. Hurrah to cities who refuse to back down to union leadership and fight back -- We don't have the money for all the union perks therefore, layoffs are happening and should continue to happen. Unions have placed this country in a financial mess. Those of us not in unions pay for our own retirements and we sure don't retire with salaries & perks government workers, fire & police, etc. receive.
