According to Liam Mayclem 's page on the CBS5/KPIX website, "Liam is an Emmy award-winning host and a producer for CBS 5 TV’s Eye on The Bay, which airs nightly at 7 p.m. on KPIX."
Really? I think I've watched 'Eye on the Bay" about the same amount of time I've watched '7Live', about five minutes each program before going back to watch Rachel Ray make spaghetti and meatballs on the Food Channel.
Truth is, I can't stand Liam Mayclem. He's got a English accent and likes to eat out, that much I know. You have a English accent and look very cuddly, that gets you potential placement on TV and a local Emmy, which is worth a free cup of coffee at Grumpy's.
Oh, one more ethnic note on Liam, again, from the website:
Born in London to Irish parents, Liam Mayclem is an Irishman with an English accent. Oh, blarney!
I know when I'm bored and looking for adult TV action, first thing I look for is that! Hold me back.
OK, you want blunt, you get it: I've never cared for these type of local magazine shows, dating back to Channel 5's "MTWTF"/Evening show in the 70's, (hosted by Jan Yanehiro) "Eye on the Bay", "View from the Bay", all of 'em.
They're all fluff and stuff. They're about as original as a Concord IHOP. They don't usually add anything of interest and substance and have insufferable, pompous and pretentious louts like Maycleam working hard to be "veeery interesting". but in reality, are nothing more than blatant commercials for a few restaurants, tanning salons, and travel destinations. Gotta keep those revenue streams going, ya know.
Again, hold me back.
Mayclem may be a cool guy to have a Guinness with, but his on-air persona reeks of a poor man's Robin Leach. And if I'm going to hang with Leach, assuming Leach still has his female posse, at least there's several fringe benefits.
Mayclem looks and acts overly cutesy and disingenuous. I think he's looking for attention. I'm not interested, but a comp at Sam's will work.

Liam needs to be deported! 7live is a waste of air time, would rather watch the sea lions at the pier basking in the sun!
ReplyDeleteI rarely watch these shows, but when I do, They do introduce me to a slice of the Bay I may not have been familiar with. Liam Mayclem may be "fluff and stuff" but he's not covering city hall. He's DOING "fluff and stuff". The Nublas,(and now Thuy Vu) yo boy Brian Copeland, Renel, Henry Tenenbaum, Spencer Christian and Brian Hackney are cutesy fluff and stuff folk (Hackney IS however respected as a weather/science person who can break down complex stuff for the masses. All of the above folks do their fluff and stuff well (I'm not a fan of Copeland but that's just me). Alicia and Gary will be doing fluff and stuff soon too. You watch
ReplyDeleteyeah, deport someone who's actually contributing and not on the dole w/15 illegitimate children. Good idea, genius.
ReplyDeleteHe never met a place to eat he didnt like. And thats observation of his reviews, not personal. They are all great.
ReplyDeletebtw Rich L., kind of a cool website/blog you have here but would you consider getting rid of some of the junk on the right side of the page - it takes FOREVER to load this site and often freezes the browser - and the slider on the right side is basically useless...maybe its time you spent $50 and got a real website instead of this blogger thing...you should have the traffic by now...
ReplyDeletesigned,
"the cowardly anon"
Robin Leach had a posse? Really? That is a classic!
ReplyDeleteAnd while I don't dislike this guy, Ihave to agree with this observation: "...Mayclem looks and acts overly cutesy and disingenuous."
While I am not 100% sold on this format, I do enjoy learning about new local places, eateries, history, etc.
used to check out your sight in the past and enjoyed the info you provided, then just got tired of your whining and petty attacks and name-calling...came back about a month ago - once again enjoy the info and even some of the gossip but just can't hang with your constant need to belittle people (esp those you don't deserve it) - some say you're a reporter, you say you're a blogger, I say your a giant a-hole...bye, bye...
ReplyDeleteMaybe he's not your kinda guy but he seems harmless enough. I'd watch him over that horrible show on 7 any day. But c'mon, you're accusing a TV person of looking for attention? Sorta IS the point isn't it? These type of shows have gotten much worse over the years for some reason. Bay Area Backroads was the only one ever worth watching in my opinion. But lay off Liam, he's innocuous enough and seems to be a good guy. There's plenty of a-holes out there who deserve your wrath way more.
ReplyDeleteThis is CBS legal again. We are demanding that you remove the photo of Liam Mayclem. You illegially pulled this off the KPIX/CBS 5 web site without permission. The photo is legally protected under copywrite law. You do not have permission to distribute this photo.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand Liam Mayclem either. Many folks in the Bay Area seem to swoon at English accents. If he was from Alabama, my guess is he would be unemployed.
ReplyDeleteOh CBS legal you have so many things too worry about get over the pic, that should be the least of your worries! You are on a ship that has sunk!!!! Your boss is a fool! Oh hell let's be honest a monkey could do a better job than your GM.
ReplyDeleteI agree with cowardly anon. Lose the huge list of archived posts on the right. I feel like I'm trying to thread a needle when I point to the little scroll doo-dad on browser's scroll bar.
ReplyDeleteI worked with Liam just as he was breaking into television, I agree he can come across as pompous and fluffy but he's worked extremely hard and is a very genuine person. He's certainly put on a few pounds though.
ReplyDeletehey how come malou review. never wears a nice short skirts check out those legs. bet she has a nice set of legs. she's to find just to be staying around the bay area. I like watching her fluff.
