Claudine Wong's Ultimatum to KTVU; RL 415 Media Exclusive

KTVU anchor/reporter, Claudine Wong, went to station management weeks before the debut of the Fox outlet's new "Mornings on Two Weekend" with a firm ultimatum: "If I don't get that job, I'm outta here," according to a reliable broadcast source close to the Oakland-based station.

Wong, a Bay Area native who has been at Channel 2 for nearly eight years, (she was a summer intern in 1995,) co-anchors "MO2 Weekend" with Mike Mibach and enjoys a legion of fans, especially those who are men between the ages of 25 and 54.

"Mornings on Two Weekend" debuted January 22 and runs from 7-9 AM with a steady stream of massive story counts, (which has ticked off editors and producers.) Its ratings have been mixed thus far, with very little competition from other outlets in the market.

  2. Feisty little hottie that Wong is...Probably a little hellcat in the sack.

  3. Rich, is there some reason you post comments such as the above piece of sexist, vile garbage? It really discredits you and your site. Very, disappointing, indeed, and just as I was beginning to enjoy visiting here. This is not acceptable in any way.

  4. Anonymous: How is this "sexist"?? Just because he referenced the demographic of her legion of fans? If that is the case, advise that you step down from your high horse and recognize that this sort of thing is most certainly measured by management of stations. When was the last time you saw a middle aged, portly blue haired grandma anchoring the news? They know what they are doing. You, clearly, don't have a grip on the reality of the industry.

  5. Mike and Claudine are solid on the weekend. I like that a "serious" alternative exists on the weekend (Matier comes close on Sunday). The weather lady Rosemary Orozco though ? She is bad- and not bad as in good... but horrible. The first weekend,my wife and I were like WTF did she just say ? It's like she mumbles in a droning monotone while trying to figure out where Pleasanton is on the green screen.

    1. Two obvious large reasons why she's on, duh.

  6. I can't see how she felt the power to give ultimatum. Who knows her? Usually that kind of thing is done by woman who have a man friend p-whipped. Oh,now I see why...

  7. It's rather refreshing too see someone in the media stand up to management. If only the crew @ pix would do the same!

  8. Love the spunk and self-confidence. She must have reason to believe that she could land on her feet elsewhere.

I agree that the tasteless remark above was totally uncalled for and should not have been posted. JW

  9. To the Anonymous poster who chastised me for calling out a sexist comment: cleary, it is you who have no grip on reality. I was referring to a comment by another Anonymous poster, not to Rich's reporting. Read the second comment in this string and tell me that it isn't a sexist piece of garbage.

  10. I’m not the one who posted the second comment, but I agree with it based upon reasoned analysis of the available facts. It appears Wong would be assertive in the sack. That’s a compliment!

  11. Claudine Wong has as much personality as a dry piece of 3-day old toast. KTVU mgmt should have let her walk. Big fing deal if she would have left. Reporters are a dime a dozen. Look at any of our fabulous (ha ha) stations here in the SF Bay.
People like her behave that way because they think they are entitled to a better job, not because they have earned it or will do the best job. Boo on mgmt for caving in. And I ditto that Rosemary Orozco statement. She is HORRIBLE!!!

  12. I don't much care if Orozco mumbles or not. I like looking at her. I wonder what her measurements are. By the looks of it she must have some awesome jugs.

  13. Seriously they should of let her go to announcing go kart racing she's so ridiculous at her job with her comedic low then high pitch then suddenly deep shifting dramatic vocal reporting.

  14. It is not "they should of let her go"... it is " they should have... " you are a moron!

  15. Rosemary Orozco is my favorite now. She's smoking hot, not too many newscasters are that attractive in the Bay Area. Most are just old and boring and many are lesbians..just look at Channel 5..cough cough Dana King. I'd perfect to look at Rosemary's shapely body anyday. Her body looks awesome. Love how she moves across the screen. She makes me feel good.

  16. My preferred Bay Area news station is KTVU but I refuse to watch when Claudine Wong is anchoring.

  19. I like Claudine she is good, from the bay area, and is motivated. she never gets a chance to show personality because she's reporting. I bet she would have a blast on tv with the Great GARY RADINICH. He can bring out people as he;s the best! As far as Rosmary Orozco she can make a person laugh after a few beers. Love her and Claudine Wong. Keep up the good work KTVU people.

  20. I remember her siding with nurses on strike at Oakland Children's Hospital. As bad as it sounds, it's because she's the same race many of them. As bad as that sound, it's the only valid reason I could think of. I had a run in with the nurses, I looked over and a bunch of them were giving me a dirty look. I looked closer and saw that one of them was hold a micro phone! It was her! She shouldn't have had ANY reason to be mad at them like the rest were. In fact, I was livening up the story for her, she should have been HAPPY if anything. I even said, "You gotta be kidding me! Are you going to just stand there or interview me?" Of course she had to act then like she was neutral and came over to interview me. She has the personality of a turnip. I noticed she got a "make-over" and tries to be more outgoing, but it's just not in her personality. Unfortunately for her in her business, she fits the Asian stereotype. I think she's angry because she's not leading a newscast, and her peak has come and gone. It's a brutal world out there.
