Trib's Newhouse 'Bangs' Warriors New Owners Over Latest Oakland Snub

We've long stated the words, "Golden State" are inherently foolish, innocuous, and a total insult to the city of Oakland, which has been the home to the NBA's Warriors since 1972.

A city and county, (Alameda) that spent hundreds of millions to refurbish the Coliseum/Oracle arena into a state-of-the-art, 20,000-seat venue only thirteen years ago.

Dave Newhouse of the Oakland Tribune expresses his outrage over the Warriors new owners, Peter Guber and Joe Lacob for their perceived, (and rightly so) snubbing of the East Bay's largest city. It is spot on, if you asked me, but I've been down this road before.

"Golden State" is so silly, don't you think?

Yes, I do.

  1. They will be playing in SF in 7 years, get used to it. (and will finally drop that dumb-ass 'Golden State' name).

  2. Call 'em the Oakland Warriors. I've been calling them that for many years. (BTW, why do we always have to "get used" to something? Or "get over" something? Do people always have to take it and go on silently with their lives? Just accept things in order to make everyone's life easier??)

  3. A lot of people didn't want Larry Ellison to buy the Golden State Warriors, because they felt that it was a sure bet that he would move the team to San Francisco. But the current new owners want to do the same thing...Move the GS Warriors to San Francisco, right across from AT&T Park.

  4. Well there is no guarantee that an arena will get built in SF, no guarantee that the fans will trek over there for games (I wouldn't without the convenience of BART), and no guarantee that the move to SF would not trigger another NBA team moving into Oracle or more likely San Jose(I am sure that Sacramento would seriously consider it). But you could argue that the last point could happen (Kings to SJ) in any event.

  5. More fans will go to an SF arena (if near ATT, unlike the one in the middle of the parking lot next to 880) than would be lost by the few fans choosing to pay the bridge toll.
