KPIX/CBS5 has hired Hawaiian reporter/anchor Grace Lee.
Lee comes to SF via KGMB-TV, part of its "Sunrise" program in Honolulu. She had began her career at KGMB-TV in 2002, and following a stint at KCRA-TV in Sacramento, she returned to KGMB in 2007.
No word if Lee will be paired with newcomer, Frank Mallicoat, who was a recent PIX hire, replacing the departed John Kessler. UPDATE: Sydnie Kohara will be Frank Mallicoat’s co-anchor in the morning and at noon.
Lee will do her final show on Wednesday for KGMB and join CBS5 soon thereafter.

And Grace replaces Sydney Kohara. Poor Syd,replaced with a younger and cheaper version of herself.
ReplyDeleteA two-fer.
ReplyDelete"Jumps from #72 market to #6"
ReplyDeleteFinances may be a consideration here, but rapid upward mobility from small markets to majors (based on talent) is a long and very positive tradition in the radio/TV news biz. I grew up in a one-station town in Western Kansas, in what was then the second smallest DMA in the nation. They had a habit of hiring people straight out of a Chicago broadcasting trade school. One guy went from that market to a below top 100 market in Northern Michigan to a successful and prominent news career at WLS-TV in Chicago. Another went from Kansas to Denver to Seattle. Another ended up as the farm editor for WMAQ radio in Chicago. Only in America! I wish Ms. Lee all success.
Worked with Grace Lee at KCRA...she is awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Rich,
ReplyDeleteIt is more appropriate to report Grace Lee as a "Hawaii" anchor versus a "Hawaiian" anchor. This distinction refers to someone "from Hawaii" versus an an indigenous Hawaiian person.
Thanks and aloha,
Liko
