Jon Miller, who was shown the door by ESPN for its "Sunday Night Baseball" package, has decided to skip an offer by ESPN Radio to be its lead baseball analyst on the Sunday night game.
The move, presumably, would mean that Miller will be calling more SF Giants games, particularly weekend games, where for the past thirteen years, he has had to forgo calling Saturday and Sunday contests for his ESPN commitment, although I would guess that Miller and his agent may want a bit more moolah from the Giants.
Miller, by the way, is under contract with the Giants for two more years.
**KPIX/CBS5 has retained Sydnie Kohara and she will co-anchor with newly-hired, Frank Mallicoat, for the morning and Noon News.
The move was probably more an attempt by PIX to mollify the people that have deluged both PIX and this site over the break-up of both Kohara and John Kessler, who was not retained by the CBS o and o because he didn't have the greatest numbers and made too much money.
Kohara is not Kessler, (shocking discovery) and while her pairing with Mallicoat makes perfect sense, Kessler's absence is still being vilified by many viewers, particularly female watchers, who make up the vast majority of a "Bring back John Kessler" page on Facebook.
And despite what PIX PR people insist on telling me, Kessler's dismissal was a NY decision from the money people at corporate, not an 855 Battery move.
"Working cheap" is the new mantra in local TV news these days.

Sydney's staying on is good. Glad she's back. Kessler seemed like a nice guy and all-but I'm sure NY brass must have been irked by his quirky aping of Letterman and mannerisms. Some of his add libs were too forced. And he did them too often.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree about Kessler. He was trying to be quirky and ended up looking uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteYep, I also found it hard to watch Kessler's forced wittiness. At times it looked like Sydnie even got tired of it.
ReplyDeleteO.K. I know it was Frank Mallicoat's first day, but it took KPIX all this time to hire THIS GUY? I'm not impressed. He's kind of odd looking and has an awkward delivery. He has no personality whatsoever. They must have hired him for a lot less money than John Kessler was making. The daily story about his driving cross country from Boston to California was lame. Thumbs down.
ReplyDeleteTo the people in Boston who miss Frank Mallicoat, take him back! I thought he would get better after a couple of weeks - WRONG! Hey Frank, get your reporter's names right. Recently he called Sharon (Chin) Christin (Ayers). He has no chemistry with Sydnie either. Bring back John Kessler!
