Deidra Lieberman new GM at KGO/KSFO; Suleman at 900 Front

Deidra Lieberman, (no relationship) is the new GM at KGO/KSFO, replacing Mickey Luckoff.

Who officially met with her at the ABC broadcast facility to welcome her in? None other than Fareed Suleman, the CEO of Citadel. (Or as he's know, "FaGreed")

Lieberman is from the KGO sales dept. and is known as a "company lady." I'm sure that'll bode well for the rank and file.

As I pointed out last week, the old guard wanted PD Jack Swanson to take over but that wasn't ever gonna happen. Swanson is Luckoff 1-A and Citadel wanted no part of that--come to think of it, Swanson probably wants no part of Citadel.

This move will have no immediate impact at KGO and to a lesser extent, KSFO, but we're at the beginning of the end of KGO as you have known it for the past three decades. Think heavy-duty on these words in the coming days and weeks: "syndication", "re-runs",  two-to-three heavy duty "retirements", "buyouts" and simple "dismissals." Oh, and a ton of conservative voices too.

Yes, KGO is about to be KSFOed.

  2. Wow. Pronouncing it dead before giving Deidra a shot. Nice.

  3. This (change in programing) should not come as a complete suprise.

Radio stations like everything else, go in cycles.

  4. I still don't get why they would steer Right and essentially duplicate/cannibalize KSFO's core audience. And, even though KGO has slipped a bit in the ratings (partly owning to methodology), it's hard to see how syndicated conservative talk gets a 5+ AQH in this market.

  5. I think it could go real well but half of San Francisco will be in Union Square committing suicide.

I like Burns and Wattenburg. Ronn's okay but his schtick is getting a little old and the station's biggest problem right now is listener demographics.

  6. There you go again, dancing on the graves before they are dead. You've been predicting the end of KGO for what, over a year now? I suppose eventually, with enough time passing, you can say, "see I was right, I was first with the news" Even psychics are right occasionally if they throw enough BS at the wall. Since many fine people have livelihoods that depend on KGO, I hope you and your "sources" are wrong.

Oh, and nice phonetic spelling of Farid's name.

  8. Well, actually, KGO has been dead for quite a while. Get past those 6+ ratings (the new version of the 12+ numbers that Luckoff used to crow about) and check the 25-54 numbers. You'll be well down the page before you spot KGO.

  9. The point about KGO cannibalizing KSFO is well taken. I would essentially combine the two operations into one.

  10. KGO is sounding stale, using the same sounders for 20+ years, older white men talking even though some are still entertaining. I know it's hard to find good talent. They should have simulcast on an FM when there was opportunity years ago to at least let younger radio listeners have a chance to sample it. Who is going to resign, Ronnnnnnnn? Gene?

  11. I like the part on Kgo announces when they return from commercials so you can turn them off .

Wonder why they do that for? tell that to advertisers to turn them off. does not sound like good business sense but good for listeners!

  12. Deidra Lieberman is a mean-spirited treacherous hack, with a penchant for cronyism,

Policial ads saved her ass this year. But that's over.

  13. Really? I love the way the station sounds now! Deidra Lieberman done more in a month than has been done at that station in years.
