While the Bay Area water-cooler chatter was talking about the profound events involving the Cal sports cuts developments, Gary Radnich spent the opening twenty minutes of his show yapping about sweet-nothings, the Giants, and the usual banalities that have plagued the morning knibber of late.
It was vintage Raddy at his worst, but considering it emanated from the "sports leader", not at all surprising.
Because the local lemmings and scribblers think Raddy still has relevance, there will be hardly a mention of this, but I don't kowtow to this sclum anymore, for obvious reasons.
I mean, why waste time on a guy whose e-mail is censored, who plays amateur therapist every day and continues to mail it in so much so that even his colleagues make fun of him.
Keep in mind that the "Razor and Mr T" spent a considerable amount of time on the Cal matter Tuesday; meanwhile, as Raddy drooled uncontrollably on his enablers, (Dan Dibley must have pictures) the most insecure voice in Bay Area sports tried diligently to do useless, same-old shtick that simply isn't funny anymore.
For a guy who loves to spout the "read the room" every other day, he himself isn't reading the room.
The guy is a has been, never was a has that's why he stayed at KRON. I don't understand how this guy got popular, he sucks and is over rated!!
ReplyDeleteWho cares?
ReplyDeleteGary missed a golden opportunity to have a great discussion on Cal sports. Ralph and Tom touched it on a bit yesterday which was heartening, although a couple of the callers were mis-informed.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should listen for Radnich's back-handed comments about fellow media members. His insecurity has been shining through for years and he thinks he's above it all.
ReplyDeleteTaking pot shots at fellow broadcasters for losing jobs or moving on is cheap. He doesn't outright say this, he says it all under his breath by muttering certain things.
Gary looks like a drunk, maybe that's the problem?
ReplyDeleteGary was particularly annoying today. He interrupts Tony Bruno when Bruno is being extremely funny. I'm so sick of this pain in the ass Gary. Insecure punk. Read the room dude!
ReplyDeleteGary Radnich doesn't drink. Period. The guy went to college for two years at Brigham Young University for christ sakes. I think calling someone a drunk is out of line when that is obviously not the case. Just sayin'.
ReplyDeleteAlso with regards to censoring. What exactly do you mean? Gary has read positive and negative emails about himself and the show as I have heard him do it on numerous occasions. To say that he doesn't is wrong so I don't really know what you mean by that Rich. Do you mean YOUR emails don't get read?
Saying that I think some of the criticism is warranted BUT you do spend A LOT of time talking about him (and KNBR) here. Maybe you need a separate Radnich & KNBR bashing blog? And for someone who criticizes the station so much you sure do listen a lot. Hehe :)
Finally, although he may not go to the ceremony congrats to Gary Radnich and the entire class of 2010 on being inducted into the Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame. Pretty good achievement for a guy who in your opinion "continues to mail it in".
"Your comment will be visible after approval."
ReplyDeleteIt seems both you and Raddy do a fair share of censoring :)
Radnitch is the ultimate narcissist. I had to turn off post game blather last night because he thought he was more important than the analysis of a Giants victory. He's a legend in his own mind.
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Rich, I was mildly critical of something you wrote about two months ago and you chose not to post it.
I'm tired of Radnich explaining that he sucks up to ownerships, because "He gets along with everybody and that's kept him employed" The reasoning of a sell out, never make waves and will be forgotten when he leaves the business, man.
ReplyDeleteThe lesson from Radnich is bend over, and swallow any ideals on true journalism you might have for the sports world. Utter rubbish. being hardhitting takes talent, guts and gets respect from peers far more than "I sat in the Yorks box"..sure,and is available to dog sit for the Yorks also if they asked..no,told him too.
Its obvious he rationalizes his career of sold and burned out for "longevity'.
Gary Radnich could take a lesson from Lowell Cohn on hard hitting reporting of our local Pro-Franchises....Lowell's critique of the York/49ers organization is Spot On!

Its a Great Read!
I've been watching Gary since he arrived a KRON in the mid-1980's. I still can't figure out what he brings to the party. And if I have to hear another story about how he drove former Mayor Brown home after the Monday night game and had to make his wife take a taxi, I'm going to go nutz. Newsflash for Gary: nobody cares. And nobody really cares about Mayor Brown who is over-the-hill and is barely relevant. Moreover, he has practically NO relevance to people outside SF.
ReplyDeleteRadnich from 9-noon is bad radio. Gary mostly talks about himself (zzzzzzzz) or stupid pop culture things that are unrelated to sports. Gimme a break. Bruno has a lot of talent, and I can remember listening to his show on Sunday nights on ESPN radio 15 years ago and being really entertained, but his brief presence on Radnich's show each day isn't enough to save it.
I've been listening to KNBR since Hank Greenwald hosted Sportsphone 68 in the late 1970's, before even Ken Dito had the show. Other than the absolutely atrocious and talentless Scott Ferrell, the worst hosts I've ever heard are Radnich and that long-forgotten toolbag Steve McPartlin who replaced the great Frank Dill. Bob Fitzgerald and Rod Brooks are in third place, and not by much. They are both losers. I don't think there is a more unlikeable radio personality in the Bay Area than Fitz, and that's saying something considering that Radnich is not that popular either.
I also don't understand why Radnich always bags on Marty Lurie. He'll make jokes about how long Marty was on the air after a Giants game. Marty can make the time go by fast, unlike Radnich who makes three hours feel like 20. Marty is always prepared, has great contacts in the game (and on a national level) and just really knows his stuff. He lets callers give their takes without cutting them off. And people like listening to Marty more than they like listening to Gary, so maybe Radnich is just jealous of him.
Marty also comes across like a guy who CARES about the games and Gary doesn't. He fancies himself as being too cool for all that. Funny, since he always seemed like such a colossal dork, going back to when I first saw him doing KRON sports with Pete Liebengood, Tom Nettles, and all those other guys back then. (Tom Nettles -- now HE seemed like a cool guy.) Over the years, I've met people who have interacted with Radnich and they say he is more knowledgeable about sports and the games than he lets on, and his detachment is just part of his schtick. I've just never been that impressed with the guy, and if he vanished tomorrow, would anybody even notice?
I know Radnich says he's Mormon and never drinks...but this mornings show is why I think people would get that idea.. His whole early show today he's droned aimlessly, with eyes half open(watching on Comcast),and a bit of a slur. If I didnt know better,I would suspect drugs. As he would deny that,I would go by his word "He's in a good mood" Maybe he seriously gets sleep deprived? I could give him that too as an excuse..because he's just rambling and rambling with "I love everybody" tossed in like a sad soul homeless man on the corner.
ReplyDeleteMan Gary,do you really need to do every Comcast job if thats what it does to you?
Radnich is an entertainer, not a sportscaster. Often I find him entertaining but I also find him to be immature at times and obnoxious at times. I do not understand how a man of his age listens to hip hop, and enjoys those stupid recorded drops played constantly on his show. I am disgusted each time his staff plays the little boy saying "you gots to get down". It is very inappropriate but the immature staff has no clue. I am proud to say I am not in the shows demographics, and neither is Gary.
ReplyDeleteAnd,what gets me is how fast Radnich will turn on people too. This morning is his daze,he was putting down Jon Miller for asking producers for more crowd noise, unlike himself he said that never bothers with producing details. It's that he repeated and muttered "Jon Miller wants crowd noise" while making the universal hand shaking sign for a J.O., LIVE on TV on Comcast that was more of his punch drunk morning show behavior.
ReplyDeleteThe man must be out of it to do that about a "good friend".
Rich, I enjoy reading your blog but please change the color settings. After more than a minute reading the blog my retinas feel like they're getting lasered.
ReplyDeleteTo all that insist Gary does not drink - Ok, then he MUST be drugged out on some kind of meds. It you watched his broadcast last night, 10-13, CLEARLY he was wasted on something - mumbling incoherently, rambling on until the camera man cut him off to go to a commercial. Someone held up a sign to tell him the story was over and he insisted he was not done.
ReplyDeleteHis eyes could not focus, he mispronouced words, he went off the teleprompter. I don't dislike Gary but I am telling you - he was unquestionably trashed on some depressant - alcohol or otherwise.
