KGO's Walcoff all over Cal Sports cuts story; Wednesday AM post

Kudos to KGO Radio's morning sports anchor, Rich Walcoff, for his solid work on the CAL sports cuts story, Wednesday, which sent a jolt throughout Berkeley and beyond.

In this day of condensed morning-drive news, it's fairly rare that even something as huge as rugby and baseball being shelved, (among other sports) would get three-four solid minutes of, get this, news coverage.

Walcoff not only reported the UC developments, but interviewed, (almost interrogated,) the PR rep at Cal and later in the morning, sports psychologist, Dr. Harry Edwards.

Walcoff pointed out, (correctly,) that while the university was cutting some of its most prestigious, (if not biggest revenue makers) sports, UC execs, dept. heads, were receiving top pay raises. Good point.

It was good, honest, and informative reporting and considering the prominence of CAL, very astute news judgement. And the fact that it involved a sports radio anchor, all the more special.
