KNBR morning show mocks Bochy's dog Jesse; plays barking dog sound drop

KNBR morning show mutts, "Murph and Mac" (Brian Murphy, Paul Mccaffrey,) maintained their well-deserved idiocy Wednesday during a segment that offended animal lovers and most surely will piss off Giants mgr. Bruce Bochy.

Around 7: 20, the goofballs made notice of the death of Bochy's dog.

On Tuesday,  Bochy was mourning the death of his 16-year-old black Labrador retriever, Jessie. Bochy still lives in the San Diego area in the off season and opted to put the dog down before Tuesday's game against the Padres.

While making note of the dog's death, the sound of a barking dog played in the background and host Brian Murphy could be heard cackling through the "bit." Pathetic, stupid, moronic and unkind, you think? Of course.

Keep in mind this is the same crew that mocked the death of an Oakland Raiders linebacker who drowned off the Florida beach, playing the theme song of "Gilligan's island." Taste is a commodity at the "sports leader."

Particularly galling is the fact that "Murph" has a golden retriever and does ads for a  dog food chain.

And you want to know the reasons why KNBR is flailing downward in the ratings? Stupid, insensitive "bits" like this and others are part of the problem, among many. I imagine the animal rights folks might be on to this.

  2. Hi Rich,

You know... typically I disagree with most of what you say. I read your blog so I can keep up with some things. But I have to agree with you here... "Murph and Mac" are just unbearable now. Murph thinks he's smart and Mac thinks he's funny. That's a big "Negative" on both accounts.

    Keep it up, Rich!

  3. The only times I have to put up with "Murph and Mac" is when I download the Giants-releated segments (Kruk, Kuip and Jon Miller). And I'm *this* close to stop downloading those podcasts. I can hear in Krukow and Kuiper's voice the "Are you f'ing kidding me you're asking/saying that?" tone when Murph asks a silly or juvenile question or statement.

Jon Miller doesn't help much when he plays along with Murph and Mac (it's probably easier for Miller to switch on his ESPN personality to deal with these chuckleheads).

It gets tiring to hear Murph say "it's what we do" when he justifies the goofball questions or comments he and his sidekick say.

  4. You're right on with the KNBR status. The whole line up has become a bunch of jaded, sarcastic commentators. We started to listen to Bruce, who isn't the greatest, but shines above the rest of the group at KNBR. That 12-3 duo is appalling,I'm shocked management doesn't sack them both.

  5. OK, the self proclaimed sports leader is rather desperate. The DOG HOUSE WANNABES are no more than thinking amongst 4 people in the studio as being the greatest radio personalities since Cousin Brucie or Dan Ingram. Obviously they are slightly behind FP wassitface. ERRRRRRRRR WHAT A JOKE!!!

  6. Three or four years ago I used to listen to KNBR all the time. Paulie Mac and Rod Brooks actually used to be entertaining, but they're like different people now. Can't stand 'em.

I agree that the station has gone downhill. The only show I can stand anymore is The Razor and Mr. T.
