KPIX's 'Justine Waldman' But in Different Manner: Anne Makovec Underwhelming...

  1. Agree on Makovec. She's still good, but it seems like she's reached her plateau. I wouldn't mind her replacing Liz Cook, and Cook replacing Sara Donchey.

Justine Waldman is a lost cause. She can't pronounce words correctly, her interviews are awkward and awful, and her banter with the weather and sports anchors are cringe-worthy. They need to lock in Kyla Grogan before she gets away. I'm sure many stations would love to pry her loose.

    2. Agree about Justine, not the brightest

    3. Justine reminds me of a college kid doing the news at the local closed-circuit station playing to the dorms.

  2. Bring back Olivia Horten, she and Kyla were magical together

    1. Say what you will about former GM Jim Rose but his talent hires were actually talented.

  5. KPIX should snag Devon Truvy from KTVU. She’s going to be a star.

  6. I have seen Kyla doing anchor duties and she is pretty smooth and good actually

  7. That is giving Justine a lot of credit. Ann is so much better than Justine.

  8. I don't get the hate for Sara Donchey. She's attractive, reads the news well and she's not over the hill like Jules.

    1. Honestly, she's good, but not great. She's incredibly beautiful, so she probably had to go through life constantly trying to figure out if people are genuinely into her for her skills or just trying to get at her. Beauty can be a curse.

    2. 4:52 Beauty is subjective and if there was any misconception regarding the affect of physical appearance and skill set, that responsibility falls squarely on the individual to allay those concerns. Beauty a curse? Kind of narcissistic don't you think? Give me the modestly attractive female, the one that blends in, puts her nose to the grindstone and gets the job done..on any day of the week without any fanfare or attention. That's who I want.

    3. @5:53 I'm saying beauty can be a curse because she may feel like she has to go above and beyond to prove that she was hired for her skills, and not for her looks. Personally, I just need someone who can read well. Both Sara and Jules are capable of doing that.

    4. 9:20. She doesn't have to do anything more than dispel the concept or illusion. How is this done? Taking the initiative and substantiating her talent. Proving she's more substance than style. That's how you convince people that you are to be taken seriously. I have a preference for Juliette Goodrich. She exudes a confidence, excellent reader and inserts touches of levity where appropriate. Consummate professional.

    5. @9:59 Jules is the gold standard. You can't go wrong with any of the anchors at KPIX. They're all good to great.

  9. Makovec...there's no there, there. At least Donchey has charisma though she appears to have gone full Maddow recently wearing nothing but black for weeks...

  10. Olivia Hortin’s successor Rachel Mauer is H.O.T. but what happened to Jessica Wills??

  11. What a downgrade.

  12. Donchey has grown on me. I wasn't a fan at first. Maybe because she was highlighted on that gimmicky late night news before Colbert thing. In the evening, she's doing just fine. I've always been a fan of Anne Malcovich (Sp). She was especially good when paired with Matier. She also has done just fine subbing in the evening.

  13. Sadly, the problem with Anne M is she has to lose about 75 pounds. Then they'll consider her for the big seat. As you yourself like to say, TV is a visual medium.

    1. No they won't. She's made herself available. She's reliable and ready to come out of the bullpen in a moments notice. There's something to be said for that. She knows her place and where she is most effective. This is it.
