Cumulus SF: We Fucked Up KGO and KSFO--Lets Do Same to KNBR and The Bone

  1. Heard bloviating Greg Silver yesterday. Pathetic. He must get paid by the word.
What took him 5 minutes to say could have been done in 2 sentences: “I am honored to be here. My coworkers were instrumental in educating me”.
5 minutes of BULLSHIT. Papa will do 20-30 min soliloquies, but even Lund knew to avoid 5 minutes of foolish chatting, unless he was covering for lazy hazy Papa.

  2. Rich, Terrestrial radio is dead everywhere. Not just the Cumulous owned stations. Ad revenue is way down. It's a catch 22. Revenue down, make cuts. Cuts reduce talent and revenue drops further. People pay for content now. There is no money in the "free" airways.

  4. I do listen to Dan on KSFO both on the radio and online. I listen to KNBR in the morning and sometimes Greg. KNBR has become more focused on guests who would talk for 15 minutes with 15 minutes of ads. I guess when the "ERC" is over KNBR/KSFO will lose their major ad spots with "Steve". SF Chronicle was great with the Sporting Green with Glenn Dickey and others. The days of Herb Caen are long gone. The food section was a must read along with the Sunday Pink Section. 5. Hey Rich,
You and I have the same experience listening to bay area radio back in the day. I'ts not easy seeing this kind of change so rapidly in a human beings life. The podcast world will replace it. Not happy about it but am trying to accept it. What choice do we have?

    1. I loved KGO growing up (I’m in my late 60’s now) in college I had bad signal at UCSB and I’d drive up in hills to get a better one. Life moves on. Some if today’s best bloggers: Joe Rogan, Mark Macon…are every bit as good as the old KGO hosts. Change with the times.

  6. Ok. Next up. you need to explain to everyone how this started. Hello President Clinton. 1996 telecomunications act.

    1. Presidents HW Bush, GW Bush, and Trump would've also done away with the FCC...so it's dumb to blame Clinton/democrats. If you recall, Clinton was widely praised by the GOP for doing it. ANd he wasn't alone--Congress had to also go along with it--which it also did.

  7. Making personnel cuts one week, then operating remotely from Hawaii the next week. Nobody how they spin it, it's a bad look.

    2. 10:53, Cumulus isn’t profitable, so how does greed come into the equation?

    3. @9:38. They haven't been and their reverse stock-split, back in 2016 signaled problems regarding solvency. Facing de-listing, they greedily sought to consolidate, thus creating more debt. They've been dancing on a volcano for quite some time.

  9. Brian Murphy has never thought of how it looks from an outsider’s perspective. A mellow Marinite through and through: “people are suffering and sick? Tra la la la la !!”
Clueless idiot. His coworkers get smoked, he gets a free trip to Hawaii. Not sure how anyone thinks he is anything but a spoiled boor. When the bean counter finally gives Murphy his final paycheck, there will be several of us wondering why it took so long.

    1. Hey haters! Greetings from Hawaii! ...and get this! It's on the station's dime. How awesome is that dude? I don't care if Tolbert and Lund got kneecapped at my expense. Too bad dude! Them's the breaks. I get unlimited food and drinks brah. Keep the Mai Tai's and Lava Flows coming. I'll tell you about my glory days at UCLA at the luau. Shaka! Mahalo!

  11. Hey 8;33
My point was not right or left, Democrat or republican. The fact is president Clinton signed off on the 1996 telecomunications act. The abject disaster that Rich and everyone like me are lamenting.

    1. 11:59. Not the OP. There is so much firebranding happening in this country right now, any comment perceived with a political slant... though unintended is immediately pounced upon.

Guess it's time for everyone to go back and read Dr. Seuss's "The Sneetches and other Stories".

  12. Barrett media is run by Jason Barrett, who was the first of many failed PDs of “95.7 The Game,” a pathetic station that can’t be heard outside of SF because it has an weak signal and serious electronic interference. What the heck does Jason Barrett know about radio. I guess that those who fail in one field are now experts of that field. Radio is now officially off life support. The hospice workers have left the room and the Neptune society are ready to cremate the corpse..

  13. You’re NOT the only one who feels this way Richie. After having 3, count ‘em, THREE full time on-air jobs
    “ eliminated” because of
“ financial adjustments,” by these bloodless corporations, I felt as I’d been gutted. I studied Mass Communications in college, learned how to write, produce and present TV and radio and print news. I worked nearly 50 years from the time I was in high school, working on-air in community radio and then after college, working my way up through the broadcasting profession in the “ minor leagues,” before earning a shot in the big leagues. But respected vets of radio are now discarded like garbage. I’m
Actually glad Glad I was pushed out the door because I didn’t see that the building was burning down!

  14. Papa keeps saying the 49ers feel like they should be 7-2. lol. This is the guy that thought Trey Lance, Purdy would be stars and Goff would never be. Papa is the 49ers carnival barker and they seem to be ok with it.

  15. 107.7 the bone morning show is virtually unlistenable with just Chasta and Baby Huey. Reminds me of grandparents trying to sound more hip, funny and engaging than they really are. Ratings ⬇️

  16. The people who run these bloodless corporations don’t give a shit about the communities they’re supposed to serve. Whatever happened to being involved in the community and providing valuable news, sports and other information? Kcbs has downsized their operation and is now bringing in people who are more suited for Fresno or Sacramento butbthey are the only station left on a.m. that actually has some live programming. But they are a far cry from a station that set the standard for News radio. That’s because Audacy,, Yet another of these media monopolies decided to use Covid as an excuse to pare down its workforce to safe a few lousy bucks. . I wonder how their ad revenue is working out? I wonder what the morale is like in that place? Not very good I imagine.
