Retirement parties are such fake bullshit and most people want nothing to do with them. Most will say; "Look, I just want to finish my day and leave quietly". Personally, I couldn't escape it...just wanted to GTFO!

I cried three times when I worked in the business. The third was the day I left the building on my last day after more than three decades at the same station. .
The key is to do as I did - retire during the pandemic! That way there's no danger of one's employer gathering even a smallish number of co-workers in a closed space to say goodbye! Remember this next pandemic. And all the best to Ms. Wonderly.
