I watched Julie's final sign-off. Even though I knew there was zero chance of it happening, I held out hope they'd bring back Frank Somerville for the final gathering around the desk. I was surprised that during a photo montage of Julie's career they showed two different photos featuring her and Frank. The return of Dennis Richmond was poignant, especially seeing he's not in great health and he had to travel a few hours to get there. And as expected, Mibach was awkward, talking over Julie on a couple of occasions.
Did you notice that neither Mellynda Hartel (GM) nor Simone Aponte (GM) bothered to show up for the send off? But Bailey O’Carroll and Betty Yu sure made it a point to get their airtime.
Mibach needs a spot to himself. He's not bad by himself, but when he's around people or has to interact with people, it's interruption after interruption.
At one point, Mibach interrupted Haener mid-sentence as she was expressing an emotional sentiment. It was the second time he had done so at that point. Dennis Richmond, seated between Mibach and Haener, leaned over and whispered something into Mibach’s ear. Mibach's expression became serious, and he looked at Dennis and nodded in agreement. It was impossible to tell what Dennis said, but whatever it was, Mibach didn't interrupt Haener again for the rest of the night. I can only imagine Dennis probably said “Don’t interrupt her again. This is her moment. Let her speak.”
This is Frank Somerville. I just sent an email to ktvu gm saying that she should make heather and Alex the main anchors. And have Mike and Christina to do the four and the seven. Someday Christina is going to be a great main anchor. I love her. Mike is a great guy. He’s just not main anchor material. I sat across from heather. She’s the hardest working person in the. Newsroom. I just wish she’d tone e down her looks. And just realize that she’s a beautiful woman who also cares deeply about the news.
If they don't promote Heather it will be pretty fun to see the giant fit she will throw. Total dragon lady that one. But the truth is she will never get hired anywhere else.
I feel like watching KRON lately is like watching Kids Beat. This is SF for gods sake. What happened to the world class journalists we used to have? Now we get kids out of college?
Ken Wayne’s retirement left a void. There was nobody “on deck” for an anchor slot. Vicki’s days are numbered, she has been around nearly as long as Haener. I still believe Stephanie Lin would be a fine main anchor. She just seems sincere and capable.
Hi Rich, what do you know about raid of Oakland Mayors house? Given you havent mentioned a hint of scandal about her, did you not know or did you decide to keep it secret? Do tell!! 8)
KTVU: Get rid of fruit 🍒 Mibach already. His train wreck appearances regarding Julie's retirement is nail in his coffin. That's why no one likes watching him! Duh! 🤓
KRON TV Primetime anchor desk is ok solid. Bellow is really smooth as she delivers, Heenan a Liviakis always a pro, Lodes is ummm ehhh ok and Thorne is actually a good choice for replacing Wayne...
They should get a field reporter and promote as new replacement for Julie. Heather won’t get along with Bully Mike, Christina Rendon has a strong Latin accent, same with Gasia with a strong accent, get a new anchor
