Tuesday Thoughts; Bay Area Media Still Putrid; Woeful Chron and SFist

  1. Rich, the Comicle (dba The San Francisco Chronicle) is jealous and they don’t want to give you the satisfaction. They’re a bunch of petty pricks. Simple as that. There’s no journalism or professional there. None. We’re now at a point where it’s a stretch to even refer to the Comicle as journalism. The decisions around which content they feature are based entirely on popularity contests, who is friends with who, who is sucking whose you know what, etc. You get the gist.

The writers and editors there, and at their god-awful website SFGate, are a bunch of Millenial and Gen Z wannabe social media influencers. Don’t believe me? Look at their LinkedIn profiles and Instagram pages. They’re solely concerned with getting as many likes and views and follows as possible on their personal pages, and building their ‘brands.’

I primarily get my news from the Apple News and Google News apps. Many months ago I blocked both the Comicle and SFGate from appearing in any form or fashion in my newsfeeds of both apps. My life is better off because of it.

  2. Current headlines on the SFGate.com homepage:

    1. "Wildly popular brewery coming to SF's most touristy spot"
    2. "At LA's most secretive club, 'fantasy is what it's all about"
    3. "Inside the SF restaurant that hosted Shohei Ohtani during free agency"
    4. "Tourism has gone crazy at this Hawaii spot since it became an Instagram hit"

SFGate attempts to claim they have 'separate newsrooms' and 'separate editorial' staff from the Chronicle, but a quick look at the articles on both websites reveals that the vast majority are shared articles, written by the same authors. Nothing more than the usual smoke and mirrors bullish!t.

  3. I want to formally thank you, Rich, for calling out the Chronicle and exposing them for the fakes and phonies they’ve become. The publication, if you can even call it that anymore, is abysmal. I was a loyal subscriber to the print edition for almost three decades and last year pulled the plug once and for all. I had enough. The quality of the writing had gone down the toilet, their stories became increasingly juvenile, and more and more they resorted to lifting stories from outside sources instead of conducting original journalism. Despite shamelessly putting out a pathetic product day after day, they continued to hike up their prices year after year.

Their decline into irrelevance is staggering. It's evident they abandoned any commitment to journalistic integrity when they began prioritizing sensationalism over substance, opting for clickbait over genuine reporting. Their ship has sailed, and I eagerly await the day they cease to exist outright. It's time for a new era of journalism in the Bay Area, one free from the shackles of the Chronicle's pathetic excuse for news coverage. It's clear the Chronicle has no ability or desire to serve as a legitimate journalism outlet anymore. They've forfeited any claim to legitimacy or relevance when they made it abundantly clear they no longer have the ability or desire to be a credible source of information.

  4. And let’s not forget about man-baby extraordinaire “Brokeass Stuart” with an article titled, “WHY IS FRANK SOMERVILLE GOING TO JAIL FOR 30 DAYS?” Nevermind the fact the article itself contains additional lies and half-truths yer contains no reference to you or your interview where the very subject of their article (Frank Somerville) made directly addressed the matter and set the record straight.

(I’d include a link to the article but don’t want to further promote this clown or make it unnecessarily easy to find his drivel. If you really want to see it, go to his website and it’s right there.)

  5. I predict tomorrow will be another day of KNBR hosts like Papa bitching about and taking calls with Lund on why Oracle Park was filled again with predominately Dodgers’ fans. He asked how to stop that. Really. Copes was the worst leading up to this series with promoting hatred and encouraging Giants’ fans (turned out mostly from the Central Valley and as far away as Maine (desperate for callers?)) to call in on his chosen topic of who are the 5 most hated Dodgers in order of most hated now and in the past. Very few local Giants’ fans called in. Copes also thinks this Dodgers’ fan attendance intrusion here is “so wrong”. He and Murph are always disparaging Ohtani with Copes especially still making classless jokes as if Ohtani was guilty of gambling himself. I think Copes and particularly Murph still can’t get over Ohtani picking the Dodgers; seems like hatred towards him for months now grows. The Giants are not that good (duh!) and the majority of fans who actually are in areas like Stockton, Modesto, Roseville, etc., some of whom called in to the dreck of a show with Copes and “Tommy”, can’t even afford the stadium beer. A Giants’ season ticket holder told Copes he rather sell his tickets to Dodgers’ fans to recover some of the ripoff price he paid for season tickets for a mediocre team. Copes quickly ended that call. Meanwhile, Larry Baer is more than happy to take Dodgers’ fans money as is the case with management of other teams too. The Giants advertised heavily on the MLB Network for weeks on the Dodgers’ broadcasts I watched. Copes should have asked Baer about that instead of what he thought about too many Dodgers’ fans at Oracle. This is a business. Lifer fans who stick by “their team” like Copes are few and far between and most are elderly so that number declines every year.

    1. Now KNBR is running a promo when a caller from “Fair Oaks” called the show, was put on hold, and in turn put Copes on hold when on air with elevator music. There is karma for you. Where is Fair Oaks? Anyone know? Near Fresno? Guess as you get down the 99 towards Bakersfield it may become Dodgers’ territory. Maybe Copes and the rest of the KNBR hosts can tell us where we are allowed to be Dodgers’ fans. No wonder there are so many fights in the crowd from drunks at sporting events brainwashed by these radio host jerks about loyalty to a team.

  7. No one up here ever complained when Giants fans hijacked Petco Park.

  8. Rich

What has happened to Nicole Zaloumis on the KPIX 5 morning show? She hasn't been on for a few weeks and now I notice that she is no longer on the promos. I guess she is gone?

I think she made some comments that caused some AAPI negative reaction, not sure if that is a factor....

  9. Rich, is there anything going good, or semi-good, in Bay Area media? Anything? The constant firehouse of criticism, much warranted, gets so old, in my opinion. You won’t post this, but maybe you’ll think about it for a minute?

  10. Two quick items: 1) The Chapter 11 isn't complete, so George Soros does not own any part of Audacy as of yet 2) does any news outlet (radio or tv) go to a college campus and then go to the Isaeli Consulate for comments ... NO! Your criticism of KCBS is now going over the top.
