Internal Pushback at KTVU: Holmes Not So Chummy with Yu; No Thrills in F...

52 comments:

  1. Holmes is pretty racist and bias treating new KTVU anchors especially of an Asian decent with hate and jealousy. She is only there for a month and this long face anchor reminds me of another long face anchor, KGO Ming Sze bullying new staffs, same decent staffs like Dion Lim. These bullys should be the first one let go, no passion if reporting, over paid, staying at the station too long and try to get dirty to steal the permanent spot. Betty will be a great weekend anchor when weekend News when tv station value Asian reporters either they are valued or no body watches they put them on a time spot. KGO Dion, NBC Gia, KPIX Andrea Nakano, KTVU Greg Lee Fridays. For Heather, she can go back to her town of Texas, report from there.

    1. I think if anyone was put in the exact same situation as Heather, there would be some jealousy and uneasiness. To classify those feelings as racist is to be ignorant.

    2. Ok Betty. Thanks for stopping by.

    3. 10:56. Reread what you wrote. Defending Asians (except one) and by the syntax, expose yourself as being of this ethnicity. Baseless accusation leveled at a white woman. But of course, that isn't the least bit racist correct?

  2. Heather Holmes is very attractive.

  3. I agree, Heather is capable, but a little bland and robotic. Maybe a win win scenario would have Heather taking over for Julie, and Betty taking over the weekend anchor duties.

  4. On Betty’s Instagram, she is partying it up in Ibiza, Spain. One month on the job and already on vacation. Sounds like a hard worker.

    1. She's dating a venture capitalist who's loaded rich. She can take as much time off as she wants without having to worry about any sort of ramifications, whether they be financial or employment related.

    2. 3:48, that explains how she can afford to take vacation 3 weeks into starting and jet off to a notoriously expensive international travel destination. Must be nice.

    3. And it’s great to know she’s recovered from her super serious and super mysterious illness that sidelined her for exactly 3 months.

    4. Damn, pulling the 'ole Julie Haener act just days into her KTVU tenure.

    5. JFC. Instead of Ktvu hiring DEI-mandated, prima donna divas, how about hiring qualified and competent people who have a genuine passion for journalism and actually want to work, regardless of their skin hue?

    6. @5:30 PM, take a look at Yu's social media pages. She and Julie Haener seem to be cut from the same cloth. Both attempt to portray wealth and status while reporting on and discussing darker elements of society, about which neither has any real understanding (homelessness, drugs, crime, etc). Essentially, Yu is the Asian, slightly younger version of Haener. I believe local news would greatly benefit from hiring individuals who not only know the area but also understand its cultures and communities.

      Delete
    7. 8:50, the big difference between Haener and Yu is Haener is really loaded rich. Mega bucks. Yu’s just a wannabe poser who tries to give the illusion of wealth to those dumb enough to fall for it.

  5. I think Heather’s daughter goes to college in the fall to Pepperdine which is in southern CA. I could see Heather leaving to LA.

  6. The "Firm" is way over their skis with the Betty Yu hire. H squared has been a good foot soldier and more than earned her stripes. Okay? That being said and the no-nonsense SOB that I am, I'm going to go there: Talented white woman with an impeccable work ethic, will be passed over for the person of the Asian persuasion. You want diversity ( God! I hate that fucking word!) thy name is Betty Yu. There's your PC centerpiece. Personally, I would love for Heather to tell them to take a flying fuck at a rolling donut and move on. Most people are bad liars and full of shit. Common decency and honorable intentions are rare these days. I believe the ghost of Diogenes of Sinope is still looking.

    2. @11:56 AM, I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective. The critical question emerges: when does the talented white female transition into being labeled as a diversity hire? If the prevailing trend in the Bay Area persists, where qualified white candidates are viewed as kryptonite while most new hires are individuals of color, a tipping point looms where the demographic makeup of television personalities shifts dramatically, potentially leading to a scenario where nearly all on-screen figures are people of color, leaving white individuals as the diversity hires. Achieving equilibrium is paramount. Any excessive skew, irrespective of its direction, proves unsustainable and inevitably necessitates corrective measures.

While it's true that numerous white individuals populate the airwaves in the Bay Area, an objective, fact-based assessment reveals that many of them represent legacy employees who were hired prior to the seismic shifts in societal norms. As these individuals retire or leave the air waves for non-media jobs, Bay Area media establishments feel compelled to diversify their roster, contributing to the pressure and a deliberate effort to replace them with people of color.

    4. 4:00. Thank you! I'm just so damn sick and tired of this DEI bullshit and that's what it is! What happened to meritocracy? It went by way of the Dodo along with critical thinking. You hire whom is best qualified for the position and not to be determined by some fake reprehensible quota that has its origins in the ether. Your assessment is spot on. When did this country become so weak and easily offended? The race pandering has to stop! I've employed people from a multitude of ethnic backgrounds and only one thing mattered to me: Who was the best candidate? Token hires under the veil of "equality" have never befitted any company.Competency matters. Look at Boeing. Terrible thing to contemplate while sitting on the tarmac that maybe their "best hires"did not perform nor adhere to required maintenance protocols?

    5. If Yu has a sugar daddy then why does she even apply for a job? I don’t give a damn where she works. Any employer who hires someone and then she’s off on some fancy vacation barely 3 weeks into her new job should get a pink slip as soon as she gets off the private jet. Does she have pictures or what?

    6. “The critical question emerges: when does the talented white female transition into being labeled as a diversity hire?”

If 90-95% of new hires are from the same population subset, then basic math dictates that anyone who doesn’t fall within that subset is in the minority and would thus contribute to the diversity of the workforce, making them a potential diversity hire.

Stepping back, the essence of DEI is to offer more opportunities to those who historically lacked access to meaningful opportunities, despite their qualifications. While each industry certainly varies in the strides they’ve made in diversity, regarding the Bay Area media scene, where most new hires are people of color, it's evident that people of color have gained access to significant opportunities. If white individuals continue to be predominantly excluded from hiring processes, they may indeed become the diversity hires of the future, as they'll be the ones seeking access to opportunities that seem unattainable despite their qualifications.

    7. At 8:32, I agree with you, but remember, for people like Yu and Haener, their TV job is much more of a lifestyle than it is a career. It opens the door to meet the people they want to meet, go to the events they want to attend, and exist in an echelon of society that they wouldn't otherwise be a part of. In another comment, someone mentioned they need to hire people who want the job, care about, and understand the community. I agree with all of that, but I'd also add that they should hire people who are working because they are passionate about journalism and storytelling, not insecure wannabe social media influencers who use it as a platform for their personal interests or to project some phony illusion of wealth.

  8. Heather should be pissed. Say what you want about her, she's been a trooper, reporting on holidays and filling in for others, sacrificing her own life hoping that she'd be rewarded. And now they shit on her. I don't blame her for being angry, and in retrospect she should have left them ten years ago, but now, let's be blunt, she's too old. They used her, fucked her over, and don't care. I'm sure sh'ed like to see KTVU burn to the ground with Simone Aponte in it, and I don't blame her one bit.

  9. The best news show on KTVU is Heather at 7:30. She is just great with interviews and interaction with the other on-air employees. The only show I tape is that one.

  10. For those folks crying about diversity hiring, look around. We live in the Bay Area - it is Diverse !! I personally appreciate all the different folks working on TV. I like that about where we live. There is no need for X amount of folks to be represented, just a mix of young and old, and a variety of types who characterize our neighborhoods. I believe women are something like 51% of the local population - does anyone here not think half the newscasters should be women?
We are blessed to have a melting pot here, it improves us in so many different ways. The TV news should be a reflection of us, not of Kansas.

  11. I don't blame Yu for leaving KPIX because KPIX hardly covers top news stories anymore.

  12. Speaking of ktvu…

Rich you always talk about how local media doesn’t know the first thing about basically geography and doesn’t even try to get it right. I couldn’t agree more. Latest example: this morning ktvu kept referring to a car crash at the intersection of ‘Embarcadero & Jones’ in San Francisco.

There’s no such intersection. This is an easily verifiable fact. Nothing more than continued sloppy reporting from incompetent know-nothings.

    2. If 10:03 is really Frank then saying heather was the hardest working person in the newsroom is some serious shade at Julie Haener who he anchored with for over 15 years, and whose name is synonymous with his own.

  16. If a reporter named Billy Yu had the identical resume and history as Betty Yu no one would talk about him or even give two shits. The only reason Betty Yu gets attention is because she’s perceived as a physically attractive woman.

Betty is a reporter. What’s the competition?? And to all the racists screaming DEI, is it DEI if you’re good at your job? Jesus Christ!

    1. She joined KTVU nearly a month ago and has only worked six days. Yes, you read that right. Six days. She's taken two vacations in the first month. What a joke. Can she make it any clearer that she has zero desire whatsoever to work? First, she pulls a fast one on PIX (which everyone saw right through), and then takes her clown show to KTVU where she picks up where she left off at PIX, continuing her pattern of laziness and doing her best wannabe diva impression. For Yu, her tv job is purely a lifestyle. It's not a career or something that she takes seriously.
Shame on her, and shame on KTVU for allowing this insanity. They're going to create a monster, and there's going to be a lot of resentment at KTVU when others see the treatment and preference Yu receives that they don't, despite their loyalty, hard work, and tenure.
