I'll preface my comment by acknowledging that I didn't catch Larry Baer's remarks from Friday evening. However...
Larry Baer serves as the CEO of the San Francisco Giants organization, where he holds responsibility for overseeing every facet of the organization, extending beyond the on-field activities. From community engagements to philanthropic efforts, investments, and real estate ventures, the Giants are engaged in various initiatives. Personally, I believe it's entirely appropriate for the CEO to occasionally appear on radio or television broadcasts to offer fans insights into the broader scope of the organization's endeavors, going beyond the game itself. Such appearances could deepen fans' understanding of the organization.
That being said, I wholeheartedly agree that delivering what sounds like a full-fledged commercial for a real estate property is wholly unprofessional and should never have taken place during a live baseball broadcast. If Larry had instead provided a brief overview of the organization's diverse initiatives and dedicated a short moment to mention a specific project, directing interested fans to the Giants website for further details, I would have found that acceptable. Unfortunately, Baer's approach missed the mark entirely. Or, to put in baseball parlance, he struck out swinging.
Rich, this may be your best segment. The delivery was good; the tone was good; there was ownership; and the background looks more professional. Bookmark this segment. This should be your template going forward. Well done!
I saw the Baer segment on TV and wasn't too bothered since I was still able to watch part of the game, but I could imagine the folks on the radio side being very upset. Baer should issue an apology.
I'll give Baer the benefit of the doubt. On the TV side, he did comment that the inning was going by so fast with the new pitch clock rule, so I think it was some time since his last appearance during a game. Hopefully, he has some feel for the speed of the game now, and it never happens again.
Sports matches are just part of the "event" of watching/attending them. The priority is making $$. It applies to all of them, not just baseball. Times have changed. Frowns all around.
Wow, I knew KTVU took their "Mornings on 2" show off the air this weekend, but I didn’t realize they also canned their evening newscasts until I turned on the TV tonight. This is what happens when you have absentee, incompetent, and inexperienced ‘management.’
So I was not imagining? I kept tuning in via Roku and they were showing some canned segment with Rendon and the BIG presence of Lee and his Aladdin shoes.
As of 10:30p tonight, ktvu.com has a large red banner atop their website which reads ‘AIRPORT WEATHER WARNING.’
Clicking it takes you to the following message in a bright red box:
“Airport Weather Warning until MON 4:00 AM PDT National Weather Service says there is a possible threat to life or property in San Francisco Bay Shoreline.
This alert comes from the National Weather Service in San Francisco/Monterey, California. It was issued at 21:48 PM on April 28, 2024 PDT. It expires at 04:00 AM on April 29, 2024 PDT.”
The problem is there is no such warning. The weather is clear and the National Weather Service website shows no such warning, nor does any other reputable weather-related website.
Anytime I think of Larry Baer, I can't get pased the video of him having that WWE episode with his wife and the phone take away. It had to be a side chick.
How are they supposed to do a newscast if there is no electricity? Didn't you bother to read the other post about the electrical room being moved up to the 1st floor? Also when you trash KTVU or any other station you trash all the great people who work at those stations. There is more to a TV station than just the newsroom. Do better. Your angry man rant is old and tired.
Ok Simone. No amount of ‘shooting the messenger’ in any way changes the reality that Ktvu is pathetic in every way imaginable. But yeah, keep lambasting and ridiculing Rich for exposing them for the incompetent fools they are.
Ho Hum: SF Giants are mediocre, and Miller’s boss wants to chat about real estate during the game. Nothing reveals your priorities more than “stepping on” the game as it is being played. It appears both the A’s and Giants do not care about the fans.
Back in the 1980's I had the privilege of attending several Oakland A's - Detroit Tigers games at the Coliseum. In those days the A's and Tigers always played a Fri-Sat-Sun set of games in Oakland and also a Tues, Wed, Thur set with the Thursday game being a 12:30 or 1pm start. A buddy of mine was friends with Ernie Harwell and for about five years in a row we would attend the Thursday afternoon game and sit in the Detroit radio booth and watch Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey call the game. The point - as bad as the Tigers could be some years Ernie and Paul never allowed themselves to become distracted from the game. They kept their commentary solely focused on the two teams on the field. Those guys were real pros and for a young broadcaster their work ethic was instructional.
Larry Baer is a lying, scheming 2-faced hypocritical weasel. With the help of his sleazy buddies who own the Giants, he engineered the coup that removed the popular Bill Neukom from the CEO’s spot a few years back. Larry is one of those guys who smiles in your face, but then says nasty things about you behind your back. His bragging about the franchise’s real estate assets on TV and radio during the game, of how the Giants are going to “accommodate lower income, people with affordable housing” ( such BS!) and all of the new restaurants that the Giants was unprofessional and embarrassing to watch during a broadcast. As a fan, I don’t need to be interrupted by some bragging, annoying baseball owner, who thinks his own farts don’t smell and wants everyone to know how much more money his franchise is going to make. Fans are already getting soaked $12 for “! craft beer” and $15 for hot dogs. It was also disturbing to watch Krukow and Kuiper practically slobber all over Larry Baer, but then, they have to take their orders from this schmuck.
According to Murph, the new little league field at River Islands is incredible. Maybe the A's could play there.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, the Giants were almost packed and ready for a move to Tampa, so talking shit about the A's is not needed here.
DeleteWould the A's supply mosquito repellent? Lol!
DeleteFINALLY !!! Someone has acknowledged that Murph is little league through and through. How he remains in ‘the Bigs’ is beyond comprehension.

Local “news” is a joke.
Can't run a station without power. You show again what a dumb ass you are Rich. Nothing more then personnel rantings from an angry ass.
ReplyDeleteWell said !
