My prediction: KTVU brought Betty Yu in to be Julie Haener's eventual replacement. No chance Yu went to ktvu to be another general assignment reporter with the likes of Tori Gaines and Crystal Bailey. I suspect ktvu made Yu a promise, in writing or otherwise, that she WILL get Haener's job. And because it's unlikely Yu would willingly be strung along forever, my guess is Haener will retire sometime before the upcoming NFL season so she can watch her son play (he's no longer suspended so he's eligible to play in all games)
I agree it’s likely Yu went to Ktvu to become an anchor and while it’s possible she could get Haener’s job, I think it’s more likely she’ll get her own newscast on KTVU marketed as such a la the late news with Sara Donchey. My guess is Ktvu gives Yu her own 11-11:30 newscast or perhaps 6pm and includes her name in the shows official title.

She doesn't deserve it. Heather has been "the good soldier" long enough. Who the hell is Betty Yu? Someone who ran away from her old employer and is playing the field. Heather at least is loyal. She also doesn't have Botox lips.
Two completely unrelated things can be true at once. Yes, it's possible Yu had to go to hospital in early-January. And, it's also possible (correction, highly likely) that her disappearance from the airwaves was due to a personal leave of absence completely unrelated to her alleged hospital visit in early-January.
FMLA provides job-protected leave to address mental health issues, such as stress and burnout. So long as a doctor says the leave is necessary. Under FMLA covered employees can take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave.
I don't think it's coincidence Yu left the airwaves in early January and then announced her departure from PIX 12 weeks later in early April.
Time will tell if Heather is Julie's replacement. I see no way Yu agreed to come to KTVU to be a reporter when she made it pretty clear at KPIX her goal was to be a prime time anchor.
Whether Betty milked her leave or not, it's none of our business. Like everyone else, she's entitled to personal time, to job hunt, to travel, to spend time with family.
Looking at the KTVU roster, it seems that there are far too many reporters over there, so the Betty hire could be a precursor to some other moves, like maybe some retirements.

There's no issue with caring for our television family, but Betty did not provide online updates for a few months and Rich was ignored when he reached out to her, so it's obvious she didn't want to reveal anything, and that privacy should be respected.
Rich, any word on why KTVU has removed the mornings on 2 weekend shows from their line up? It no longer appears on Ktvu or Ktvu plus in the coming weeks. I’ve looked on my tv’s guide and also a number of tv schedule websites and it’s been completely eliminated. Last weekend appears to have been the last airing of it. Looks like Claudine, Frank and Rosemary will be out of a job or have their roles shifted.
Frank deserve a full time spot on TV replacing Dave Clark. Frank also from KPIX got kick out by an Arizona shorty using her power to boost him out and in conclusion, not loyal to KPIX heading back to her home reporting from there. The female shorty, forgot her name with 3 daughters.
Betty is the best Bay Area reporter ever. There’s not even a close second. Anyone who disagrees either hasn’t seen Betty or needs to get some help, pronto!
