It's clear you don't watch the morning show because if you did you'd know Dave Clark and Frank Mallicoot are the real problems. Both are so awful in so many different ways they make Gasia look like the re-incarnation of Edward R. Murrow.

gasia is an anchor, not an investigative reporter or a general assignment reporter tasked with finding stories and telling impactful narratives. her role is to read stories off a teleprompter that others have discovered and written, and ad lib and make chit chat as necessary. she seems to her job well and seems to excel at breaking news coverage when she has to improvise without a script, something virtually no one else at does well. i’m not sure what more she’s expected to do that she’s not already doing. do we expect models on "the price is right" to be experts in all the details of the various products and vacations they present while smiling and extending their arms? no. so why does it matter what gasia or any other anchor (aka teleprompter reader) knows or doesn’t know or does or doesn’t do when they’re not on camera doing what they're paid to do? as far as i'm concerned all that matters is she knows how to read off a prompter and does it well.
According to some former/current KTVU employees who comment here, it seems that Gasia is a real problem. But she's fine on camera and I have no problem continuing to watch her and Andre Senior every morning.

So let me get this straight Rich: so she, Mibach and Haener are about to be let go or pushed out somehow or demoted? What are these KTVU people at the news station saying more specifically about what has changed this week with Gasia’s work ethic or whatever? Otherwise, this seems like more noise.
And Trixie is still at KGO. And the big shakeup on the KTVU and KPIX morning shows never happened. And big news Rich had about so many anchors and reporters "that would happen soon" never materialized. Sure a few things have come true, but if you predict enough, things stick and then you claim you *predicted* them. That's how TV stock pickers work.

She seemed a bit rusty tonight when discussing the United airplane tire issue. The story started with the reporter interviewing a plane spotter who happened to capture the moment when the tire fell off the plane. When the story ended, Julie asked the reporter "how was the video captured?" Ummm Julie, that was literally the first thing mentioned in the story.

So I debated long and hard over whether to say this. This is Frank Somerville. I worked with gasia for years. I can tell you for a fact that she could care less about news. She even told me one that her job was just to read. Can you imagine. I’m not a reader. I questioned everything. It drove the producers crazy. But that’s my job. Her and Dave feel differently they just want to read. They just want to be on tv. They just want to be celebrities. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. On the night of the ghost ship warehouse fire, the biggest story of the year, gasia was doing the 10 pm news with me. I’m totally focused on the news. Gasia was totally focused on doing Facebook live. It was so distracting that I told her if she didn’t stop I’d throw her freakin phone across the studio. Imagine 36 people dead and gasia was more focused on Facebook live. Sadly that is who she is. You can believe me or not. But that is the unfortunate truth. And EVERYONE at ktvu knows it.

Frank, thank you for mentioning Dave Clark in your other comment. even as a casual viewer I can tell he has absolutely zero interest or knowledge of the subject matter he talks about. He can’t pronounce the most basic terms in mainstream news and when chit chat ensues has nothing of substance to say about news topics. I’m not sure why he even wants to do the job. It’s embarrassing and reflects poorly on ktvu that they put these people on air who couldn’t care less about the people and stories they cover. You want to know the main reason why Dave Clark wakes up at 2:00am each morning to be on air at 4:00am? He has an adult son with severe developmental disabilities who he takes care of full time. He does the early shows and then goes straight home to begin his second job which is to take care of his son. Say what you want about his anchoring skills or his 'news acumen' (as Rich likes to refer to it) but no one can question his character, committment to his family, and his love for his son. So yeah, if he's not spending all day reading news and obsessed with news it's because he has more important things to do when he's off the clock.
I agree I know about Dave’s kid. And I get that. But Dave just isn’t a news guy period. When he first. Ame to ktvu he bragged about getting the first interview with Janet Jackson after her top opened up. He also put a big pic of him with his arm around oj Simpson and it was taken AFTER the trial. And I’ve been told by coworkers that he does no work. Just more food for thought.
@7:14, this is a good reminder. Everyone is dealing with something and often, people are too quick to judge. Work is work. If it becomes your passion and it doesn't interfere with the rest of your life, that's great. But work should not define a person. Everyone should "work to live," not "live to work."
As a former ktvu employee, here's what I'll say about gasia: she was generally pleasant and polite to your face. She's boisterous, opinionated, and very much a go-go-go personality. It’s either zero or 100 with her. There’s no in-between. She's extremely two-faced and gossipy. She’d constantly make comments about people behind their backs without caring who was around, always eager to point out flaws. The more people around, the better. Disagree with her on anything, and she’d take it personally, going into "Gasia mode". You had to walk on eggshells around her. Everything was always about her. Mention a nice dinner, and she’d make it about her frugality. Flaunt a stylish jacket, and she'd boast about her bargain-hunting skills. Even discussing family vacations, she’d emphasize her family’s cost-saving approach. For those who don’t know gasia or never worked with her, this was her reputation. No one trusted or liked her outside a select few with identical personalities. These are indisputable facts known to anyone who has ever worked with her.
This is who Dave Clark is. He actually asked mayor Sam licardo during a live interview whether he started the camp fire. Are u kidding me. He’s an empty suit. Period. And I e worked with him for years.
Meanwhile there are photos of a well known abc7 morning anchor actively participating in a pro-palestine/anti-israel rally last weeked in San Francisco. Not covering it but marching and screaming pro-palestine slogans. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but i'm wondering if it's professional for someone responsible for delivering news to participate in an event like this?

The thought they can’t express their first amendment right outside of work is ridiculous. Where it becomes sticky is when they bring their political beliefs into the workplace as Jessica Burch allegedly did when for a period of time she had a ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ sticker at her PIX workstation.

As a TV viewer, how would I know any different? All of the anchors look like readers. Frankly, that's the most important part of the job. If you or any other co-worker don't like her or don't get along with her, that's a different issue. To the TV viewer, she's delivering the news, and that's good enough for me.

I agree with you a to a certain extent, that reading is the most important part of the job and if one can read the prompter well then it's all good. At the same time I can see why people who work at ktvu and would be turned off by a news anchor who doesn't give two shits about what she reads.
@4:59 - I could imagine both perspectives. For co-workers, if she's not invested in her craft, then she could come across as someone who's just going through the motions to collect a paycheck. To a viewer, it's just about giving me the news in a clear manner without being too much of a downer, which she does fine.
Frank should actually make a verified account on here considering so many people are pretending to be him commenting.

I can tell you for a fact that she could care less about news.
She even told me one that her job was just to read.
Can you imagine.
I’m not a reader. I questioned everything.
It drove the producers crazy. But that’s my job.
Her and Dave feel differently they just want to read.
They just want to be on tv.
They just want to be celebrities.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again.
On the night of the ghost ship warehouse fire, the biggest story of the year, gasia was doing the 10 pm news with me.
I’m totally focused on the news.
Gasia was totally focused on doing Facebook live.
It was so distracting that I told her if she didn’t stop I’d throw her freakin phone across the studio.
Imagine 36 people dead and gasia was more focused on Facebook live.
Sadly that is who she is.
You can believe me or not. But that is the unfortunate truth. And EVERYONE at ktvu knows it.
I know Frank has left comments on this site on various occasions, including recently, but when there's an anonymous comment and the person says they're Frank it's hard to know if it's really him or not. Just sayin...
DeleteYes, but I could have seen you without any thought reading the Sum Ting Wong script you had to apologize for as the “face of the station”. A news writer, maybe former, who posted in this blog at least twice, said you did not understand things well; hence the questions I suppose.

ReplyDeleteGasia is fine, just like all the rest of the anchors in the bay area. They do their job day in day out - as Woody Allen said “showing up on time is 80% of it”.
I love reading all these kooks whose lives have been ruined by someone - a news reader - they view as inferior. Change the channel !! Better yet, read a book. Calm the hell down.
Is this the result of entitled folks who feel slighted and bitch about everything but do absolutely nothing to improve their lot? Go help kids in need, volunteer at a park, educate at risk kids, donate some time — if you have time to bitch bitch bitch, you have time to improve our world.

I couldn’t go home and just forget about it like gasia and Dave. I wish I could. But I can’t. Cause that’s not what an anchor should be.
DeleteLong before his post here he was toast. I guess he is now aiming to create an opening and chaos TOO (did I get it right with all caps Frank?) which in his mind may get him back in the anchor chair at some hour.
DeleteIf you’re going to talk about fakes and phonies who go home and forget it like gasia and Dave (which is totally accurate) then you should also mention Julie Haener and Frank Mallicost. According to Rich’s Pulse reporting you’re good friends with Haener so unlikely you’d ever speak the truth but it is what it is.

ReplyDeleteThis is Frank. I called out gasia because I can’t stand innuendo or people talking when they don’t know anything. I’m calling her out and telling you what she’s really like. I’ll also tell you what Leslie Griffith was like. She was literally crazy. And did no work. She just complained when she got on the set. But this is why she’s crazy. These are direct quotes from her. She told me one that urine used to come out of her ear. She told me out of the blue that she hadn’t had sex in three years. She told me Gavin newsome was coming over to watch movies with her. And she told me that she had to pull over on highway 24 to throw up. Leslie was a cancer. She would totally throw anyone under the bus including me. Gasia is the same way. And I’m sure there are things I did that pissed people off. And totally happy to hear them. To apologize. And to take ownership. Again I hate innuendo.. these are all real stories. Period.

Frank, thank you for mentioning Dave Clark in your other comment. even as a casual viewer I can tell he has absolutely zero interest or knowledge of the subject matter he talks about. He can’t pronounce the most basic terms in mainstream news and when chit chat ensues has nothing of substance to say about news topics. I’m not sure why he even wants to do the job. It’s embarrassing and reflects poorly on ktvu that they put these people on air who couldn’t care less about the people and stories they cover. Thank you continuing to beat the drum and expose these phonies.

DeleteYou want to know the main reason why Dave Clark wakes up at 2:00am each morning to be on air at 4:00am? He has an adult son with severe developmental disabilities who he takes care of full time. He does the early shows and then goes straight home to begin his second job which is to take care of his son. Say what you want about his anchoring skills or his 'news acumen' (as Rich likes to refer to it) but no one can question his character, committment to his family, and his love for his son.
So yeah, if he's not spending all day reading news and obsessed with news it's because he has more important things to do when he's off the clock.
I agree I know about Dave’s kid. And I get that. But Dave just isn’t a news guy period. When he first. Ame to ktvu he bragged about getting the first interview with Janet Jackson after her top opened up. He also put a big pic of him with his arm around oj Simpson and it was taken AFTER the trial. And I’ve been told by coworkers that he does no work. Just more food for thought.
Delete@7:14, this is a good reminder. Everyone is dealing with something and often, people are too quick to judge. Work is work. If it becomes your passion and it doesn't interfere with the rest of your life, that's great. But work should not define a person. Everyone should "work to live," not "live to work."
DeleteAs a former ktvu employee, here's what I'll say about gasia: she was generally pleasant and polite to your face. She's boisterous, opinionated, and very much a go-go-go personality. It’s either zero or 100 with her. There’s no in-between. She's extremely two-faced and gossipy. She’d constantly make comments about people behind their backs without caring who was around, always eager to point out flaws. The more people around, the better. Disagree with her on anything, and she’d take it personally, going into "Gasia mode". You had to walk on eggshells around her.
ReplyDeleteEverything was always about her. Mention a nice dinner, and she’d make it about her frugality. Flaunt a stylish jacket, and she'd boast about her bargain-hunting skills. Even discussing family vacations, she’d emphasize her family’s cost-saving approach.
For those who don’t know gasia or never worked with her, this was her reputation. No one trusted or liked her outside a select few with identical personalities. These are indisputable facts known to anyone who has ever worked with her.

Not covering it but marching and screaming pro-palestine slogans. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but i'm wondering if it's professional for someone responsible for delivering news to participate in an event like this?

The thought they can’t express their first amendment right outside of work is ridiculous. Where it becomes sticky is when they bring their political beliefs into the workplace as Jessica Burch allegedly did when for a period of time she had a ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ sticker at her PIX workstation.

She’s just like Dave Clark. A reader and nothing more. Is that really what you want from an anchor. Someone who’s a good reader? Summerville had his issues. But he was a news guy. That’s all he cared about. Period.
ReplyDeleteAs a TV viewer, how would I know any different? All of the anchors look like readers. Frankly, that's the most important part of the job. If you or any other co-worker don't like her or don't get along with her, that's a different issue. To the TV viewer, she's delivering the news, and that's good enough for me.

I agree with you a to a certain extent, that reading is the most important part of the job and if one can read the prompter well then it's all good. At the same time I can see why people who work at ktvu and would be turned off by a news anchor who doesn't give two shits about what she reads.
Delete@4:59 - I could imagine both perspectives. For co-workers, if she's not invested in her craft, then she could come across as someone who's just going through the motions to collect a paycheck. To a viewer, it's just about giving me the news in a clear manner without being too much of a downer, which she does fine.
