Saturday Media Breakfast with Rich

  1. Rich, what is the best bay area am/fm radio stations to listen to for background noise? For me KGO back in the day, now it has been KCBS which is unlistenable anymore. Just tried KQED was not that thrilled. Not sure what music stations are on anymore. Maybe you or one of your many watchers can help...

PS: I think KGO7 has finally stopped the Building a Better Bay Area BS!

    1. I listen to music I downloaded or ripped. I would never rely on any of the idiot stations or awful and overprices services like SiriusXM for music or information. I really am astonished Sirius is still around. They fulfill no function that I can see, and they seem to exist mostly as an I-didn't-ask-for-it-but-it's-included car accessory.

    2. @1:00 PM, you're spot-on about SiriusXM. They included their completely unnecessary service in a car I bought a couple of years ago. After about six months, I finally realized it was a waste of money, so I decided to cancel. Of course, they make canceling nearly impossible. There's no option to cancel online or through the app; you have to call their customer service line. When you do, they'll keep you on hold forever, and when someone finally answers, they'll pretend to help only to put you on hold again indefinitely. Eventually, they’ll either disconnect the call, or you'll get fed up and hang up yourself.

After enduring this three times, I resorted to reporting my credit card as lost or stolen. I thought that if the card number linked to my SiriusXM account was canceled, they wouldn't be able to bill me anymore. But I was wrong. They somehow got hold of my new credit card number and kept charging me. I tried calling a couple more times with no success. Finally, I contacted my credit card company and explained the situation. They said my experience with SiriusXM was common and were able to block all further transactions from them. Finally, the unauthorized charges stopped.

In this age of Spotify and Apple Music, the only way SiriusXM remain in business is through holding their customers hostage with their scrupulous and deceptive business model.

    1. Kawasaki as in the motorcycle? Or, (Tim) Kawakami the local sports reporter who Rich has expressed his opinions about in no uncertain terms?

    2. I believe Don Knapp and maybe Don Sanchez started out that way as well.

  4. During the storm I tuned into KCBS, but even it had limited information on power outages and closed roads.
I had no power and my cellphone battery was dead - I was stuck, no need driving into a traffic jam.
I bought an cell phone battery charger within 30 mins of getting power. Amazing how dependent we have become on such devices.
