A Real Funny Blast of Yesterday The Great KFRC DJ/Personality: Dr Don Rose

  1. Great segment, Rich. And you did not even cover all of his philanthropic efforts and his weather sidekick Jane Dornacker. Great memories

  2. Rich, thanks so much for this great memory. The big 610 KFRC and everything you mentioned was spot on Dr. Donald D. Rose. Walking to school and listening on a transistor radio, that was the tech back then as you know. Great stories and happy memories.

  3. You want a blast from the past? Bring back Lloyd Lindsay Young to do the weather. Mildly entertaining, straightforward weather reporting; he knew he wasn't the star, so he developed that intro of Helloooo, Walnut Creek, or wherever. Those were the days.

  4. Sadly, Dr. Don probably couldn't get away with some of his jokes now.

Used to listen to him while commuting to Sac St in the a.m.
Darn near drove off the road when he played Minnie Ripperton's beautiful song "Loving You" after adding sounds of a barking dog chasing a meowing cat, car tires screeching, glass breaking...

Traffic and weather gal was the late, great Jane Dornacker. Katie Green is Dornacker 2.0.
The one funny joke he told and I still use today is "they don't get my show in San Raquel. Oh, they receive it, they just don't GET it".
Usually followed by the sexy voice of "oh Dr. Don you son of a BLEEP"

I heard him on Lee Rodgers Show and you could tell he was slowly losing "the twinkle in his voice" but was still in great humor. A few months later he was gone.

People should definitely listen to a few YouTubes of him.
Added insight of what goes on inside a radio studio.

Thx for the good memories, Rich

  5. Anyone remember 1260 KYA, San Francisco
    The Emperor Gene Nelson Show?

    1. How about KNEW 910 Don Chamberlain's "California Girls"?

  6. These type of shows should be regular shows, like maybe "Blast from the Past Sundays"
