Bay Area Dreck; TV/Radio; Friday Coffee

  1. I kid you not. I’m watching KRON news at noon and almost fell off my chair. Kyla Grogan is doing news AND the weather. WTF!? Is this the future of news? A one person show? Is she doing sports next?

    1. "Is she doing sports next?"

That's very likely. KTVU has a person named Bailey O'Caroll who does general assignment reporting, regular anchoring, and sports anchoring. I don't think she's done weather yet but i'm sure that's on the horizon.

    2. KRON needs to use Kyla more on the anchor desk. Watch out Justine!

    5. I saw that too. Turns out the anchor had an attack and Grogan jumped in and saved the day. Pretty bad ass really. Covered the show until the anchor Stephanie could get back on air. Kinda surprised Stephanie didn't say something when she came back that part was a little strange. She acted like nothing happened. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=930399298456548&set=a.246215726874912

    7. I did see Stephanie return (to my chagrin)…what type of “attack” did she have? Kyla did a great job filling in. I wouldn’t mind seeing her behind the desk as long as she also continued to do full body shots yummy!!

  4. Speaking of dreck! Can someone donate some new shoes to KTVU’s Greg Lee? He’s on with the luscious Christina Rendon at 10pm now and he’s still wearing the same hideous brown shoes he’s worn since pre pandemic days. They look like leather Aladdin shoes my god!!

    1. Forget about shoes; get the guy a gym membership. It seems like he's been enthusiastically indulging in SFGate's list of the Top-100 super burritos in the Bay Area. He's gaining weight by the day day and might reach a point of explosion if he continues his current eating habits.

This brings up a question: do TV stations have clauses in anchors' contracts that allow them to take action in the case of excessive weight gain, similar to what's happening with Greg Lee before our very eyes? I'm referring to weight gain so extreme that it significantly alters one's appearance from the time of contract signing. Considering it's a visual medium, the station needs the ability to address such instances. Unlike characteristics such as race or religion, weight gain isn't a protected class under the law, particularly when it's a result of widely known unhealthy eating habits.

    2. Agreed! Maybe Lee gets away with it because he doesn’t gain much weight in the face so folks assume he’s the same. When they show full body shots I think: wow this dude must eat fast food multiple times a day.
