In fact, Hoplmes has repeatedly threatened to LEAVE Channel 2, going so far as to swoop in when oppurtunity struck. But, as of now, she's still stuck in quasi back-up mode.
HH is clearly PISSED FF and frustrated en-fuege at KTVU. Her leverage is waning too. Heather isn't getting any younger. Could we see her anytime soon at a competing Bay Area station? KRON, even? NBC Bay Area? Oh, stay tuned.*ADD HOLMES--secret ally: Frank Somerville.
One of my many spies at KTVU told me even as Frank Somerville killed off his gig at the station, Holmes and he had often met outside the newsroom and held private liason meetings at a nearby Jack London Square coffee cafe. They met for hours. Heather was one of Frank's closest confidants; even when he was fired by Fox, Frank and Heather held court at various cafes abd restaurants.
Today, their relationship is srill strong even if Frank is no longer at KTVU.
The history has pretty much established itself like Anne Mackovec. If you were that important to them she would have had the position. They know she's invested and to pull up stakes and start fresh at this juncture is risky. Do you continue on current course, leave and or miraculously be promoted...only to reign over a pile of ashes?
ReplyDeleteA friend is a friend through thick and thin.
ReplyDeleteI wish them both well.
I really don't care where HH goes, just as long as its outside the Bay Area and sooner rather than later.
ReplyDeleteCan we revisit the photo of HH with the snot coming out of her nose?
ReplyDeleteIt really humanized her to me......
That was hot!
DeleteThis is frank. Heather and I never went out for coffee or any of those things that your ktvu source said. They’re just making that up. I can say this: I sat across from her. We talked a lot about news coverage etc. and I can tell u this for a fact. NO ONE in the newsroom works harder than heather. She cares deeply about news. About being fair. Factual. And unbiased. Bottom line she works her ass off. The problem is that people don’t notice cause they get too caught up on her looks.
ReplyDelete“NO ONE in the newsroom works harder than Heather.”
DeleteIf 3:01pm is really Frank, then that sounds like some serious shade just thrown at Julie Haener.
We believe you Frank. She was not an intern after all! Just joking,
DeleteBy the way, what exactly does an anchor do besides read a teleprompter? Seems to me reporters in the field have the hard jobs, especially for investigative and feature stories. I suppose you need to prepare for guests on the screen but just to get input mostly. Anchors in my view are ridiculously overpaid just for a basic reading and simultaneous speedy speaking ability it seems to me. I wonder how difficult that skill is to learn to justify the salaries.
Frank was quite the player. He scored on all the hot ladies.
Delete"By the way, what exactly does an anchor do besides read a teleprompter?"
DeleteThey're supposed to pre-read all the copy so that they don't fumble on air. You see how well they do that. So often you'll see an anchor come up on copy you know they haven't seen till that instant and not understand it. Pam Moore was the queen of this. The most well-prepared anchors in this arena: Catherine Heenan on KRON and Brian Hackney on KPIX.
In Europe, especially on the Continent, they're thought so little of that they're just called "news presenters" or "news readers," and they tend to be at the bottom of the hierarchy, but America loves its celebrities so here they're stars.
"Seems to me reporters in the field have the hard jobs, especially for investigative and feature stories."
Investigative reporters are really the only "real" reporters out there (which is why so many of them come from print and radio backgrounds, where you really have to get a story and not just look pretty holding a mike). And too, it depends what you mean by "investigate." Interviewing angry merchants about crime in Oakland and labeling that as "investigative" is something Amber Lee can do. (How hard is it to get an angry store owner to talk to you?) Digging through political, legal and economic data for a story on something officials are trying to hide is something almost no one knows how to do anymore, literally, which is why you haven't seen a really big government corruption case locally in 20 years. The local governments are more corrupt than they've ever been, but nobody on television has the intellectual chops to understand what's going on and break it all down. That's because they hire ex-beauty contest winners and "personalities" like Sara Donchey and Da Lin.
For spot news and breakers it's really amusing how it goes down. (I worked in the field for years so I've seen it and even been a part of it.) Usually when the reporter gets to the scene they know nothing. So they call the assignment desk or the writer who is assigned to them and ask them what's going on. Said person on the other end usually has a public information officer number to call or a fax from the relevant PR person and they read to the reporter what they know. Or they read it off the wires or listen to the radio if a radio station is already broadcasting (although with no radio station really doing news anymore I guess that's not really an option). Then the reporter gets a witness soundbite if there are any. Then they go on the air and say something like, "I've just learned officials are..." The viewer thinks they learned this by talking to people at the scene. Truth is most of the time they call the assignment desk, which reads them the press release, or the newspaper, or whatever, and they copy that at the scene. Now, they could have just stayed in the newsroom and did all this but the viewer has to have the illusion that the reporter is at the scene tracking people down and getting information. The reality most of the time is they're calling back to the desk and asking what's going on. Television news is theatrics, plain and simple, and most reporters are actors.
“That's because they hire ex-beauty contest winners and "personalities" like Sara Donchey and Da Lin.”
DeleteYou forgot wannabe Instagram influencers (this spans all ages up to Instagrandmas like Queen Julie Haener) and kids so immature they buy an ungodly amount of fake Instagram followers until Rich had enough and finally exposed them (paging Jessica Burch).
@6:27 it’s called taking a vacation. Bailee was gone for a week, turns out she was in Europe. Or do you also think something was fishy with her disappearance?
DeleteKTVU sounds like a BravoTV reality show
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear she's remained a loyal friend through tough times
ReplyDeleteHey Rich, you really struck gold with that Andre Senior story. Turned out he was on Pictionary with Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteKeep groveling.
Pictionary is filmed in LA. There’s no need for Andre to take almost 10 days off for a day trip to LA. Rich was/is on to something.
DeletePlease don’t leave HH.
ReplyDeleteLove HH
ReplyDeleteTo Heather, please have a nice dream getting the main anchor spot. Julie might not retire as expected and please note her son career ain’t stable after suspension meaning Julie needs the job, good luck bashing her back
ReplyDeleteHeather is a competent anchor and reporter. She has presence and reads the teleprompter without gaffes. Heather reminds me physically of an aging beauty contestant. However, she is like a younger Vicki Liviakis. That’s her asset and KTVU should reward her loyalty to the station.
ReplyDeleteyup
DeleteI don't know why so many supposedly intelligent, modern women who will probably say they're all about #MeToo and "empowerment" like that womanizing alcoholic. Like some other poster said here recently, Smart Women, Foolish Choices. Or maybe not so smart women...
ReplyDeleteThe use of the word "liason"implies sexual activity. Why do you always do this when female and male professionals talk to each other outside the confines of work. You know nothing and shouldn't imply that you do.
ReplyDelete"Why do you always do this..."
DeleteClicks.
Maybe KTVU could move Heather Holmes into a morning news slot so she can strut her stuff and do ratings battle against Darya Folsom. Two fine women who always look like they don't sleep in their own beds, oh my!
ReplyDeleteI’ll take Dion Lim and her poopy adults diapers over Heather any day of the week!
ReplyDeleteEvery time Rich mentions Heather, the blog blows up. She is by far the most popular anchor in the Bay Area because she is loyal, smart, does the best interviews and is beautiful. She should be paired with Julie at 10. Haener and Holmes at Ten PM. That is a winning combo.
ReplyDelete@8:56. Nope. You never pair females. Always dog & cat.
DeleteI always though so, Mike whatever his last name is only got the job because he he is a male. Never deserved it, Heather paid her dues and is way better then awkard Mike
DeleteI’m not a fan of HH but I think pairing her with Haener would be a big improvement over The Constipated Lou Costello and his awkward delivery and grimace
Delete@I’m 828, why not? They have all females at KCAL.
DeleteI watch Heather at 730 now. She is really, really good so who needs her at Ten? I am in bed by then. 730 is a perfect time and I tape Wheel and watch it at 8.
Delete@9:38. You have to visually appeal to both bases. Male/Female. That and as we all know women can be bitchy and contentious with each other.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
DeleteI no longer depend on KCBS on the 8's, Love 511.org
ReplyDeleteHaving Frank Somerville in your corner is not what you think it is. If I were a ND and someone said "Please check my resume. Oh.... Frank Somerville can also provide a reference for me."...... I would turn the other way. Frank holds no clout, no influence, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have a cousin who works at KTVU. He and others have said most of your “stories” about them are overblown and exaggerated, or even made up. Heard one of the people mentioned in a past story was considering legal action of libel against you because of something you wrote and had to be talked out of it. Makes me think everything you’ve said about other stations are probably fake too. Care to comment on that Rich?
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to mention that Rich also discloses the identity and personal information of people who talk to him, thinking it won’t get back to them, yet it does (often by the very people who Rich tells)
DeleteI love seeing Heather every night...!
