Nexstar/ABC Transaction Far From a Done Deal; Respect, Yes, Admiration for Black Women TV Anchors/Reporters --KPIX's Gooden Included

DON"T ASSUME the hot news about Nexstar buying outABC/Disney. It's still somewhat of a longshot.

And even with a weak, powerless FCC, the formality of such a deal faces enormous obstacles.

So, your KRON/KGO future is clouded with lots of fog.

*If Nexstar suceeds in its deal, almost assuredly, Dan Ashley is GONE from Bay Area TV news airwaves.

Can't even begin to explore the complexties of a KGO/KRON circa 2024, so I won't go there yet.

*MY AFFIRMATION for Black women, especially Black women TV News anchors is yes, transparent. I have a deep--seated respect for the sisters who have it a hard way, in an industry, like America, where the challenges and struggle is monumental.

Therefore, yes, call me a little biased and impartial, skewed, but at least I admit it.

*That all sid, Lezla Gooden is a FORCE to study and observe, what's not to like?

She's confident, engaging, compelling and is damn good.

Black white, it doesn't matter.

  1. KGO/KRON are buddies, same building, share clips and JR Stone moving to the upper level to KGO. They should merge!!! When Dan is gone, Ken should head to KGO.

    1. I could see those 2 merged. Be A Duopoly like KPIX and KTVU have.

    2. How do KPIX and KTVU have a duopoly?

    3. KTVU and KPIX are not a duopoly. KTVU is a FOX O&O since 2014..KPIX under CBS banner…..because of deregulation and hacking of resources at all media outlets, pool feeds are way more common, so it may give the appearance to people sitting at home who never worked in the industry that all the stations are partners.

  2. This is how it should be. Donchey and Yamamoto can learn a thing or 2 from Lesla. Both of them lack confidence

    1. I also watched a whole lot of 1970's Pam Grier movies including Coffy, Scream Blacula Scream, Foxy Brown (My Favorite), Bucktown, Sheba Baby & Friday Foster. Ms. Grier was Sexy, Strong & Confident! Today at 74 years old Pam Grier is still a Beautiful Woman! Rich: You have the Best Media Blog on the West Coast!

  5. Not sure if she is a sista, but I think you will appreciate the new Bailey at KTVU, Crystal. Very good reporter from what I saw last night. Yowza!

  7. The struggle of black women. Hilarious. I’ve been in hiring decisions where the HR director would just put a resume in a separate pile without even looking at it and say, “Interview her. I need a black.”

Wish I had to overcome that kind of struggle. “Weee shaaaall overcooome…”

    1. I was wondering what the "struggle of black women" was too?!? I see successful black women everywhere. I can see how they may have a struggle finding a successful black man? Too many baby daddy types not enough husbands.

  8. Well I would hope Nexstar would get rid of GM Jim Rose of KRON then. He is running that station into the ground and now there's newsroom chatter about him making some not so kind comments about people's ethnic background. He does not represent the Bay Area as it should be.

    ReplyDelete
  9. yeah but I would hope Nexstar gets rid of that terrible GM soon. He is driving the station into the ground and there's rumor of him making some disparaging comments about people's background. He is losing support and Nexstar needs to act fast and replace him

  10. I still say that these tv stations, who are losing viewers to streaming services, need to remember WHO their viewers are. Nationally, the percentage of blacks in the US, as of the last census, was around 12%. Yet, if one watches ABC, otherwise known as the "All Black Channel", one would think the percentage of blacks in America was 50% or more. Also, since tv is a visual medium, it used to be that they would only put people on who at the very least, were visually appealing. Nowadays, they put on people like "horseface" Jobina Fortson, Reyna Harvey, with her saggy breasts and stomach, and Julian Glover, with his Bart Simpson hair or whatever that is on his head. I DO give each of these people credit in that they all can speak and present the news somewhat well, although with a distinct bias, towards all things black. Especially on Good Morning America, otherwise known as GMA, or "Get More Africans", everytime they have a feature, it is always someone black. Everytime. Is there any wonder why viewers are tuning out and why conservatives are becoming the dominant force?

    1. This country is experiencing "black fatigue". People are done with it. Toss in the LBGTQ community as well. When was the last time a commercial aired showing a non-mixed race heterosexual family?

    2. That’s a lot of racism and bigotry piled into one comment. They really should know their place! I bet you didn’t have a problem when media was predominantly white. That’s because it’s your comfortable default over there in white supremacy land. Dominant force? Lol, Conservatives are a minority, it’s just the rest of society is busy living their lives to give a crap about your angry fox soap box.

Your backwoods spittle--including a perverted fixation on one anchor's breasts and stomach--reveals an abnormal obsession with Black physicality. Seek help.

    6. @4:55 tell us you don't know anything about the country without telling us you don't know anything about the country. Turn off MSLSD. You are the uneducated voter they always talk about.

    7. Or how about Gale King on CBS Mornings.

    8. Agree. The country is overcome with wokeness. And I'm saying this as a lifelong Democrat. Who cares what color somebody is? Who cares who you fuck? I don't, so stop shoving it in my face in every commercial. I get it; there are mixed-race families out there, and gay families, and single-parent households. Who gives a shit? Overemphasizing it only backfires. You don't earn new converts or allies; you only alienate those on the fence. And save your indignant rebuttles; that only proves my point.

    9. Supposedly, its against the law to hire (or fire) people based on race. How is it that this hiring preference for blacks has been going on for years now, and no one seems to challenge the legality of it?

  11. I am still awaiting to see what Pam Moore's post retirement contribution to KRON will be. I find these always to be a joke. Cheryl Jennings had the same deal at KGO. I think Carolyn Tyler did too. It is all just fake importance anyway. Kind of like the actual newscasts themselves. Fake importance. Most of what is in a local newscast is irrelevant to most and can be acquired using Google News. Sitting in front of a TV and watching a newscast seems to be a waste of time. Is it entertainment? Maybe. It is not for information, that is for sure. I would be curious to know the actual numbers and demographics of those watching. If anyone has an idea or actual data, please share. I would think a typical newscasts for any one station is less than 10k homes with it on and of those watching, the majority are over 60. Less than 10k homes watching one station at a time. I am amazed at this site's emphasis on local news when I think its influence is miniscule...or should be.

    1. 7:03AM : You are probably right about the demographics and market penetration of local news. The aspect of your comment that is puzzling to me is what kind of dummy comes to a blog which is specifically about local programming (after all 415 is in the blog name) and then complains that it is obsessed with discussion of local programming?

  12. What's your take on KRISTEN WELKER "Meet The Press"?

Rich, any opinion on Bryan Goebel at KCBS?

  13. Wow, KRON/KGO possibly with combined performance/budget goals. Maybe they would scoot Darya Folsom over from KRON to KGO to replace Ashley. Girl power indeed!

  15. Rich, why did you even mention "black/white"? The evil doers got in your head

  16. TV news is only watched by the older viewers. We all know young people don't watch TV news or read newspapers (especially the SF Chronicle which has sports reports a day later -Haaaaa). But they still try to appeal to a younger audience. The overall Bay Area news talent reminds me of our Presidential choices - no good choice.

  18. Rich, I agree with you 100%, “Sisters” are often required to go above and beyond the standards enjoyed by non-sisters. I have witnessed this personally. Reminiscent of Jackie Robinson - he had to excel to be accepted. He met the challenge, and earned not just respect, but adulation, from his team mates.
I bet Pam Moore and Belva Davis and Emerald Yeh could tell some disturbing stories regarding the double standards.
You’d think by this time, 2023, blatant (or even subtle) discrimination would be a distant, and fleeting, memory.

    1. Emerald Yeh? I thought she was Asian. A better source of stories about the double standards would be Melba Beals. She was one of the original Little Rock Nine who needed federalized national guard troops to integrate Central H.S. She was a reporter in the Bay Area and still lives here. Better hurry though, before the conservative radicals erase her role in history.

  19. Nexstar keeps making bad decisions. Their purchase of the CW did not make any sense. They're airing Programming that nobody wants to watch like LIV and Car Racing, and now they're exploring buying a unprofitable major TV net work instead of focusing their money on streaming services lol nexstar is run by a bunch of old white men who still live in the 80s in their heads. None of this is going to be profitable for them
