That Stones show was Mick Jaggers 40th birthday. Went to a few Stompers games as a kid (they were co-owned by some Croatians which appealed to my folks). Good times.
I definitely recall a Most Excellent Bob Dylan/Grateful Dead show there. Phil was a jammin' for sure during the "Knock Knock Knock on Heaven's Door" twin-band finale.
The Poor city of Oakland. Within the space of several years they not only watch the Raiders fir a second time, but Warriors to SF, and they could very well lose A’s to Vegas. The great Oakland Tribune columnist Dave Newhouse, who also hosted sportsphone 68 on KNBR back in the early and mid-1980s has co- written a book about the tragedy of Oakland losing it’s pro teams. The Coliseum complex was at one time the home of 6 pro teams: The ABA Oakland Oaks, then later the Warriors, the Raiders, the A’s, the Oakland Clippers of the NASL, and the NHL Oakland Seals. Newhouse and former A’s promotions whiz Andy Dolich combined their efforts in a book titled “goodbye Oakland.“ It sums up How the one time “ City of Champions, A’s, Warriors and Raiders won a combined 5 Championships from 1972-76. Since then, a once proud city has fallen into disarray and It’s partly because of greedy sports team owners and partly because incompetent city and county officials who let these teams get away.
