Fear and Loathing at KRON

NO Matter THE IDEA OF adding a couple late newscasts,, including 11 PM, FEAR and rampant ANGST at KRON!
The CW Network begins programming Sept. 1 and station personnel? Fraught with unease.

"They, (management) keep telling us 'not to worry--we don't believe it," says a veteran staffer.

Anchors are even more nenvous. Ken Wayne especially.

And Vicki Liviakis and Catherine Heenan.

No moves are imminent.

  1. I love KBHK 44 classic movies back in the old days. Since CW took over, nothing special. And so funny they put CW programming on Channel 4 next to KTVU 2 NBC 3 CW4 KPIX 5 KGO 7 in between to get ratings.

Ken should go back to KTVU if this is the case. I guess the new line up is this News throughout the day until 8PM. And 11:00 News then I side Edition

    1. Bring back "The Ghoul". Hey Froggie! Who could forget that classic; 'Who Stole the Keeshka!" Ron Sweed was da man!

    2. I remember a UHF channel in Cleveland Ohio in the 1960's having a horror movie host called "The Ghoul". The show was a play on an earlier show on VHS with a host famously known as "Ghoulardi" played by Ernie Anderson - who moved to L.A. and became the voice of ABC TV. His local replacement was "Big Chuck and Hoolihan" - who famously played the Polka "Who Stole the Keishka" while poking fun at the Polish population of Parma Ohio. Is Anonymous from Cleveland - or did these shows get syndicated out here?

    3. Ron Sweed as "The Ghoul" was presenting movies on KBHK-TV, Channel 44 San Francisco, California from the early 1970's until about 1973. What was mesmerizing to youngsters about the Ghoul Show was of course; The Boom-Boom! Yes, those wonderful, loving homemakers who went out and spent their husbands hard earned dollars on a toy Revell model kit for their little darlings. If you were one of those fortunate children...you know how the story ends. R.I.P. Ron Sweed.

  3. So news at 12, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, and 11? CW only programs 8-10.

    2. Don't forget 5-11am weekdays. They are doing the same kind of model like KTLA does in SoCal...

    3. With all the news 5-11am weekdays, Noon, 2pm, 3pm, 5-7pm and 10-11:30pm weeknights including 7-10am, 5-6:30pm and 10-11:30pm on weekends there is definite uncomfortable situation for the news anchors. For sure there is going to be shuffling like a deck of cards...

    4. KTLA is worth watching because it hires the pretty people.

    5. "So news at 12, 2, 3, 5, 6, 10, and 11? CW only programs 8-10." This is what KTLA looks like. Plus their morning news block that runs from 4AM to 11AM

  4. Please get rid of Rayna Harvey. That woman gives cleavage a bad name!

    1. You don't need to watch KRON 4, either that or wear a blindfold, you can never get viwers turning away from Reena, she's good and popular, oh, wait, is @ 10:39 Darya?

  6. I for one, hope they do not do anything with the 9 and 10pm newscasts on KRON. When I get up early, I like to watch their news, as opposed to the fiasco that happens over at KTVU now every night!

  8. I bet Catherine had a wonderful o face in her prime. Whoa boy.

  9. As long as Teresa Estacio is there to put her shoulders on display 24/7 365 (she's damn proud of them, rightfully so) the station will be fine.

  10. Catherine is almost 100 years old. She should be ready to retire.

  11. The transition to CW will be a Ratings and Revenue Disaster for KRON especially in Prime Time 8-10p. The lost of available News inventory to sell per hour will go from 60 to 20 spots.
With less ratings, less inventory and lower unit rates KRONs revenue will tumble.

Add the future prospect of a CW Morning News Show and a CW Evening.News Show revenue will decrease even more.

    Lay Offs will come.to KRON.
The local news will be produced out of Fresno. Much cheaper salaries and costs.

  12. If the station goes down with budget cuts, maybe, Frank will accept any job for 1/2 price. KRON do pay anchors cheaper.

    1. They do not need anchors….News will be produced out of market in Fresno or Sacramento.

  13. Why would anchors be nervous? They are losing the 8 and 9pm newscasts, but adding a 2pm and resuming the 11pm. And most of the anchors already work on another hour other than the 8-10 slot.

  14. Jim Rose was not the right GSM hire for the hard times ahead at KRON. He will crumble under this challenge ahead.
Jim…Go back to small town western pa.

  15. It could go to bars and tone and nobody would notice. It is a pointless station. Hate to see people lose their jobs but they will survive and find something else.

  16. Here's a though? How about revive the old tradition of a national sign off at midnight. Play the national anthem then fade to snow.
