Bailey O'Carroll Controversy Rocks KTVU; ND Amber Eikel Center of Storm; Uneasy Buzz in Jack London Square as The Firm Investigates Sexist Remarks; Sunday Report

PUSHBACK at KTVU --Bailey O'Carroll controversy rocks the newsroom.

And it's not just the alleged locker-room comments directed at Ms. Bailey; nobody doubts the infamous remarks, (and assorted other sexist comments) were uttered, (one by an unknown male anchor)--the initial anger has subsided but now the MAJOR ire has been directed at ND, Amber Eikel.

It was Eikel, who's already fighting for legitimacy inside the building, who hired O'Carroll despite her clearly limited resume.

"It's a Fox type of hiring," a newsroom source told me. "Once she (Bailey) came in front of the camera (from doing digital content), we knew what the 'MO was."

Eikel, for sure had Fox influence in promoting Bailey but didn't necessarily have to make the hire. Eikel could have waited until she, (Bailey) was more seasoned in front of the camera. Obviously, The Firm doesn't give a rat's patoon about experience. Clearly, O'Carroll's shapely appearence dictated her pathway, (Fox), toward on-air status.

And now, irony of all irony, sexual harrassment chatter by two prominent male actors, one, an anchor, have rocked the station. Something KTVU doesn't need.

While most have sympathy for O'Carroll, there's a good majority of people who say the entire matter could have been avoided had Eikel shown better judgement herself.

"She didn't take any of that into account--that's a fundamental aspect of her job!--she's already on thin ice here, " another KTVU staffer told me.

Fox has begun a "low-level" (their words), internal investigation into the matter but few people at KTVU think they'll be any serious repercussions. The male anchor, whoever he is, (and there's already wide speculation at KTVU who the culprit is), will probably get a pass, a warning, suspension --unles it's omeone at 2 who has a bad reputation when it comes to matters like this.

  5. Yes liberal progressive Caucasian women are the biggest scourge in this country today. Look at Joy Behar & Jan Wahl for example. The media especially the Bay Area is full of them.

    2. @4:21 When "The View" first starting broadcasting we thought how refreshing it was; just people expressing their thoughts, no or very little bias, no finger pointing, just plain common everyday common and honests views; look at it now, so vile, spewing hate, apolitical and super bias, not what the great Ms. Walters envision

      Delete
    3. the View has a huge, national audience. Joy Behar is part of the reason why. Jan Wahl does non-partisan movie reviews , not political commentary.. You are both a sexist and an ageist. Both are abhorrent. Ms. Griffin's daddy wrote Rush Limbaugh's books. Her family is very conservative. Her experience with cheeto hitler was direct. Therefore, as she recounts his babyish temper tantrums, dangerous lack of knowledge about the constitution and his need for revenge, her commentary is particularly germane.

  6. I heard that Ms. Bailey was having some "fun" with a male co-worker but the relationship fizzled. He talked & other men including the unknown anchor made comments about it then... SURPRISE! Sexual harassment investigation. I've heard Rosemary & her creepy photog might be involved in a roundabout way too... Allegedly. What a bleep show KTVU has become.

  7. KTVU has more action than a soap opera. They should rename to: Days of Our News.

    ReplyDelete
  8. The sexist remarks/sexual harassment need to be addressed and, if proven to be true, those responsible need to be held accountable. Unfortunately, I have little to no faith in KTVU’s ability to do the right thing and properly investigate this conduct.
All that aside, Bailey is not helping her own cause. For example, last night she did the sports report and botched two Giants names, referring to “Michael Confretto” and “Camino Duvad.”
Broadcast Journalism 101 dictates that you read and re-read your copy before you go on air. This ensures you know what you’re about to read and it allows you to identify any potential pronunciation pitfalls ahead of time.
I’m sorry, but knowing the names of key home team athletes when you’re tasked with doing sports shouldn’t be too much to ask.

  9. Mark my word, Empress Eikel will put Bailey behind the anchor desk sooner rather than later.

  11. Completely unprepared to be reporting at KTVU, and for those who have painted her as a bright eyed, bushy tailed, modest journalist, merely eager to learn, here’s the truth. She’s arrogant. Don’t believe me, take a look at the link to her bio that Rich posted. You’d think it was Edward M. Murrow’s. Right out of college and the first line, “Bailey O'Carroll has made an indelible mark on the field of journalism.”

Other fun ones include, “Now at KTVU, Bailey's journalistic prowess continues to shine.”

“With a spirit of curiosity and a dedication to storytelling, Bailey O'Carroll continues to inspire and captivate through journalism.”

Yeah we get it. That Blue Angel’s story was a doozy, and for mom on the fridge worthy.

  13. It'd seem Fox has a permeating sex harassment culture, even after the big Roger Ailes issue at the top-corporate NY level. Ailes died while I think various cases were still on-going. Various on-air personalities, both male and female, have not returned, whether my Fox's choice or the personalities' choices, I imagine.

Some were employees, while others were some type of independent contractors. Fox uses the title "Fox Contributor" often, which I don't quite understand what that means, whether it's an independent contractor , or some type of part or full-time employee. Maybe New York has some different types of employee laws vs. California, I don't know.

While still others have left seemingly for other life/personal choices/reasons. Fox also has folks leave if they become involved in political campaigns, I've noticed.

I'm thinking it may take actual generations for an intrinsic culture to change, and not just at Fox/FoxNews (Xfinity HD channel 760, btw).

Let me get this straight: 2 dudes make a sexist comment about a female coworker. This is the female boss’s fault? It is 2023, not 1973. Sexist remarks are the fast lane to the unemployment line, and if you don’t know that already, you are about 50 years behind times.

We can’t blame man for stearing at female anchors, it is the opposite female try to attract the man to kick them out. 24. O'Carroll did KTVU sports last night (Saturday) at 10 PM. It was the first time I saw her, and I don't see where the criticism is coming from. She did a perfectly fine job. I think she mispronounced the name of a Giants player, but that was the worst of it. She hasn't been here that long.

The thing that I didn't like, which O'Carroll had nothing to do with, was the very long, BORING feature on Jake Haener.

    2. I agree, watching these long, uninteresting stories about Jake Haener's football prowess is getting as boring as watching Sal gobble French Fries on the Friday Field Trips.

For the new young reporter's office gossip, this happens at every company. Get over it.

      Delete
    3. Yup. Jake Haener stories are simply nepotism. The NFL will ultimately decide if he's the next Joe Montana, or Pete Marinovich. No reason to push his brand other than to kiss Julie's ass.

      Delete
    4. 6:22...so every new young male hire in "every company" generates buzz about his sexual impotence?

      Delete
    5. I saw Bailey doing sports last night. While she lacks the experience or polish of a Jason Applebaum or Joe Fonzi, Bailey is 1000% better than Jesse Gary, Frank Mallicot or Claudine Wong doing the sports. I suspect when KTVU eliminates the Sports Department, Bailey will be only reporter with a sports background.

The investigation into sexual harassment by one or more male staff members is radioactive for Eikel if she conducts an internal investigation and botches it for the station. If management is wise, I hope they hired an external investigator so station management won’t be accused of malfeasance or incompetence.

      Delete
  25. I like the new hire. She doesn't dress like a hooker. Trying to blame the news director for the ugly words of male on-air employees is absurd.

  30. KTVU obviously needs more women reporters under 50, if the male staff is going gaga over this Bailey. I watched her report a story the other night. She's not bad looking, but I wouldn't look at her twice if I saw her at Safeway.

    ReplyDelete
  31. KTVU has always had perverts that prey on women and girls. I was a young intern there 20 years ago. A prominent (married) male anchor pursued me and I’d have to cover my chest anytime the news director got near me. I got out and never looked back.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Maybe they’re making fun of Bailey because her delusion has no end. (Jude read her online bio.) She seems to have herself confused with Edward R. Murrow.

    1. LOL she “has made an indelible mark on the field of journalism.” Does anyone at KTVU actually ready these things before they’re approved. Sorry Pam Moore, your retirement is being overshadowed. Bailey O’Carroll thinks her mark on journalism was like, totally more indelibilish.

  33. Bailey’s promotion to reporter is due in larger part to the fact she is canoodling with the brown nosing weekend anchor.
