Raj Mathai Has Tempting Offer from NBC News in Gotham

NBC TO RAJ: "we still want you."

Raj to 30 Rock: "show me the money!"

Raj Mathai recently signed a new deal at NBC Bay Area--he's happy, (from word on street) --but he's also quite ambitious too.

Which makes this an interesting time for Count Mathai to become immersed in a possible new career in NYC, but...

The veteran Bay Area news anchor has been, (again) offered a DEAL to anchor at various NBC News platforms, complete with a MASSIVE six-figure deal --at 30 Rock no less and not the NBC outpost in Secaucus, NJ, such a deal? But there's more.

*Season tix to NY Yankees/Knicks.

*21 residency

*Ballet tix.

*Rainbow Room expenses all covered

There's a caveat to all this:

Raj loves the Bay Area and is raising a family. He also wants NBC to "show me the money!", so all this could be a huge smoke screen, but oh well, it all sounds just delicious.

  1. I'm no Raj fan by any means, but... if he doesn't take that deal he is certifiably nuts. Getting an offer for a gig like that does NOT come around very often. It's the biggest no brainer in the history of mankind.

    1. Either NJ or NY isn't safe due to high crime, SJ is a thousand times safer except for pedestrains

    2. Not necessarily. NYC is a very cliquish place and a lot of imports do not work out well there.

In the 1970s, a Philly anchor named Larry Kane rode his big following to the Apple. Two years later he was back in Philly, and he called his time in New York the worst of his life. Linda Ellerbee has similarly talked about how the city crushes news people from out of town.

    3. Roz Abrams from KRON and Kaity Tong from KCRA did pretty well in New York after being in California.

  4. Oh come on. They could offer Raj a lot less and make a separate deal with Janelle Wang to do something or other. The bee will follow the flower.

  6. Isn't Raj a little too old now to build a national identity?

  7. Raj deserves it! One of the top 8 Bay Area anchors of the last 20 years. Good to see a fellow Indian get a break.

    1. Raj doesn't deserve shit, but if this deal gets him out of here I'm all for it.

I'm sure you're the only one who thinks so. Besides Raj, of course.
