The People at ABC7 are Royally Angry; You Can Build On It; Eric Thomas/Kristen Sze Symmetry; KCBS Uber-Tanking; Audacy Stock at .12 Cents; Mark Ibanez/Joe Fonzi KTVU History; Henry Lee Drawing National Interest; Tuesday Extravaganza

TUESDAY WIRE...
The people at KGO, (ABC7) are FURIOUS over the ongoing BS that is ABC/Disney's O ans O propaganda machine: the crappola known as "Building a Better Bay Area" and in other markets, (LA/NY/Chicago)

"All this bullshit at a time they're cutting left and right--nobody wants to work here anymore," a veteran producer at Circle7 told me.

KGO wasn't hit by slashers but they did say goodbye to a longtime EP, Randall Yip, who was basically ordered to take a buyout offer or else. Use your imagination.

Circle7 used to be a legacy station, nowadays it's as lousy and stressed out as the other outlets in SF.

*ADD Circle7: A career move explanation: Eric Thomas wanted badly to GET OUT of KGO he campaigned to get the mousies to give him a buyout offer. He was making decent money and enjoyed his seniority status at 900 Front. But he also had to deal with nagging, emotionally-bullying Kristen Sze, who did her very best to make working life uncomfortable for Thomas and a few others.

Thomas chose to take a one-way ticket out of KGo so he could come back and begin a new radio, (barf) life at KCBS.

Thomas and Sze: birds of a feather...

*Thomas' continued misplacement at KCBS is drawing renewed outrage amongst the rank and file --the few vets who still work there.

Thomas is a nice guy, a good man who has good intentions and works hard for the most part but he has ZERO personality and is FAILING daily --his own people know it. In addition, his co-anchor, Margie Shafer, is also a BAD FIT. They both FAIL each other.

KCBS took a major HIT in the recent ratings.

Moreover, they were KILLED in the morning by their own internal numbers. "We were decimated," said a contact to me.

All the while its parent company Audacy continues to BLEED financially and reach near penny-stock status.

Which is why Jenny Seelig gets away with her daily missive, hiring inept traffic anchors as fill-in news people and real-estate agents on Sunday.

Good grief, what a DISASTER!

*Mark Ibanez told Joe Fonzi about the bleak future that awaited him at KTVU but Fonzi was OK with it.

Fonzi was nearing retirement anyway so it was all gravy as far as he was concerned.

Fonzi has a palatial estate in Danville--near where Ibanez used to call his crib, ironically.

And Joe has bills to pay. But life can be cruel.

As Fox begins doing away with its sports segments, you can just imagine the anxiety.

Advantage, The Firm.

*HOTTEST KTVU property? Crime reporter, Henry Lee, who is drawing network interest.

Lee is destined for LA/NY status. A far cry from the desk of the SF Chronicle.

  1. On a different thread, Gasia Mikidiot on KTVU this afternoon:
'Police have closed down part of 880 in Milpitas after Sunday's freeway shooting. They're searching for something and appear to even have a metal detector for some reason." REALLY, Gasia??? THere was a SHOOTING, which is done with BULLETS which are METAL. Do you have to wonder why they have a metal detector, you dumbass???

The question she WOULD be asking if she were a journalist and not a mannequin, is what took them so long?! By now that bullet is wedged in the tire of an 18-wheeler somewhere.

    1. Exactly. That was my question. They stopped busy traffic on a Tuesday afternoon to go metal detecting down the freeway for a crime that occurred Sunday!?! Make it make sense, Henry Lee. That bullet is probably at the bottom of one of the many divets and potholes that have formed on the roads these days. My tires are begging for mercy every trip.

And if people could stop shooting on the freeways, that would be nice. Time to install cameras at every entrance and exit. Innocent children and people being killed by strays because these thugs and nuts can't control their testosterone. Sick of it!!!

  2. Why would Henry Lee draw national interest? He reports on all kinds of mayhem and death. How is that appealing nationally? We already have enough morbid stories to peddle and enough talking heads to provide them to us

    1. Yes, he'd be perfect for Dateline, 20/20, etc. There's all kinds of that garbage filling our TV schedules.

    2. Lee has a beautiful home in the Oakland hills and young kids I highly doubt he’s in a position to move from what appears to be a comfortable position where he can already report on all the crime here

  3. I have to admit I said some stupid things during my career. But that's pretty bad. Right up there with Dave Clark asking the mayor of San Jose during a live interview whether he started the huge camp fire.

  4. How can one person (Sze) apparently terrorize so much of a newsroom? She's a mid-level afternoon anchor and mediocre reporter. A Fresno fill-in could do her job. Does she still have that stupid 3pm show that nobody but her mother watches?

    1. Unfortunately that 3pm show still exists. It was useful during the pandemic but now I watch KPIX at 3 instead.

  5. I found an option to all this lame legacy media...
    http://www.sfstandard.com

Good, solid reporting on SF issues...and in Chinese too.

  6. I remember when Henry Lee started at KTVU that I thought somebody was playing a joke on him by giving him a mic with an oversized mic flag. Then I realized he was just a little guy and the mic flag was the same as everybody else used.

  7. @2:51. I worked with a big time bully that was tolerated because she was hired by her friend the SVP. The bully was totally inept but was hired in a Sr. Mgr role. Her friend the SVP left for another job and the bully was let go shortly after.

  8. Maybe Frank Somerville can come back to KTVU in some fashion and keep us updated on the Giants, Warriors and Niners from a sports bar. I'd tune in for that. RATINGS!!!!!! lol

But seriously, a news program without a sports anchor is seriously lacking in local flavor.Especially in the bay area with three vaulted sports franchises here. Chris Alvarez does a good job over at ABC 7. Actually gets the interviews with the players And Larry Biel does double duty as anchor/sportscaster because he'll never be Dan Ashley. lol

Only 'The Indian Walter Cronkite' Raj Mathai can graduate from sports to the main desk with no looking back. Perks include 'cocktails' after hours at the local hotel bar. Hey, Janelle...(Ming drove her out of ABC7 years ago. Tiger mom, that Kristen Sze. She said only one Queen Bee allowed to reign here at Circle 7. Grrrrwraaahhh!! Oh hey, Dion Lim...lol) Karma.

    1. Frank could broadcast from the bar across the street from his condo. Just don't let him drive over.

    2. Get one of those numerous driverless cars currently roaming the streets of SF late at night tout him to and fro. It's apparently the only safe place to be in the city these days.

  9. The Disney cost cutting has apparently also hit ESPN. On Monday, their coverage of the Boston Marathon will be produced by Boston's WCVB-TV. Additionally, ESPN's anchors and reporters will be working with WCVB's anchors, sportscasters, and reporters in covering the race.
The Hearst legacy station is looking forward to having their hard work reach a national audience. The station's evening anchors will be anchoring the race coverage and two of the station's sports reporters/anchors will be in the pace cars following the men's and women's race leaders.
Note to Fox: If you're dropping sports segments from your stations, at least utilize the sports anchors and reporters to provide analysis and interviews on your NFL game coverage.

  10. Dearest Rich, is it possible when someone leaves that it's not a bad thing? You keep TRASHING Erics radio existence. Do you think maybe he should just hang it up?
Retirement should be the dream! Am I right?

  11. Do you take every opportunity to mention Kristen SZE?
How I imagine a conversation with Rich:
It's not raining... Sze is the worst!
    Good morning... everyone hates Sze.
The war in Ukraine... Kristen Sze is a bully.
Must be exhausting carrying that chip.

  12. Danville is to KTVU anchors what Connecticut is to hedge-fund managers. The place to build a compound.
