Saturday Thin News; Blues at KGO/Circle7; Missing Wild/94.9 FM Radio Host; KTVU Weekend Follies Possible; Snow Job

SATURDAY: the slowest news day of the week.

The NY Times, even in days when people read the printed paper, had its thinnest edition. Hard lesson: if you want to make news, make it happen on a day other than Saturday.

*The behind-the-scenes personnel at Circle7 --KGO/ABC7--have lost key people; lots of news writers, producers, and editors. And I've heard from a number of folks, morale is at an alltime low. Disney, the happy factory that apparently can't even make its own people, happy. Maybe they ought to build a better newsroom.

*ABC News is planning to open a Bay Area news bureau --I would assume 900 Front, but sources tell me it's somewhere near Union Square.

*BOLO ALERT: Jeffrey Vandergrift is missing. The "Wild 94.9" FM radio host has been MIA since Thursday night --if you see him or know any info, call the SFPD.

*If you want to see unintentional laughter tune into a weekend KTVU newscast and prepare for a variety show; messed-up graphics, wrong video, lost audio, pick your poison ...or like KCBS, just another day at the office for KTVU.

*SNOW JOB: while there was snow in the Oakland Hills and Santa Cruz mountains, it was hardly the main event forecast by overly-giddy Bay Area TV/Radio weather geeks. They predicted a good chance of snow at 500 feet. I saw snow in the Oakland hills but I see that many a times in February. Again, in '76 snow appeared and accumulated at SEA LEVEL, now that was NEWS!

  1. It snowed at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. There's a photo on Facebook.

  2. ktvu would reduce their technical missteps by at least 90% if the control room guys (aka “the bong buddies”) would lay off that sticky green stuff and stay away from the parking lot next door.
Wait, nevermind, they use it almost every shit for “medicinal” purposes.

    2. Two stoned guys operating graphics and audio for a newscast that’s already a complete joke, what could possibly go wrong?

    3. If the bong buddies work the same shift then it’s a small miracle we even see a newscast at all.

  3. NY Times just bumped up their daily price MON - SAT to $4/per. (It was $3/per) I buy the paper on Tues (Science section), and Fridays (Movie reviews). It is still the BEST, by far, newspaper but print editions will soon go the way of the DoDo.
Nowadays people think they know the issues but they are delusional - they only know opinions on issues, which is a delicate way of saying they are woefully misinformed.
Our nation is dumbing down with great haste. “What’s on TV? Game o Thrones? Real Housewives? Wrestling? Or Beverly Hillbillies?”

    1. If you want to know what’s going on in America—aside from what restaurants are the best and what Kardashians are doing—you have to consume foreign media. The American media no longer covers…anything. It’s humbling to go to Europe or Asia and find out s cab driver knows more about the events going on here than we do.

  4. Yes, the ABC SF News bureau will NOT be at KGO...
Because KGO will be sold-off by then.

  5. Can you name me a newsroom where morale *isn't* at an all-time low?

  6. Friday evening Ch 2 news with Muscle man, tight fitting suit Greg Lee and overrated Rendon spent Almost the entire first HALF HOUR talking about snow! It was beyond belief. I went to KRON, talking about REAL news, and was shocked how Haener had aged. That and her dead pan look was cringe worthy.

    1. Greg Lee…the Muscle Man? I believe you meant the Michelin Man (as in the tire mascot). It looks like he’s on the three burritos per day diet.

    2. Sorry, meant Heenan, not Haener
