  1. Any updates on Andria Borba at KPIX? Is she ever coming back?

  2. Hi Rich
Ed in Mill Valley. Can you give me a ballpark estimate on when Murph and Mac will be given their pink slips? Can’t come soon enough!

    1. Hi Ed, yeah, schlock is schlock and Smurph/Smack are putrid even with OK ratings but their time is coming, especially with Cumulus cuts looming.

  3. My understanding is she's dealing with some Covid-related illness, don't know when she's coming back.

  4. Hi Rich,

Will KCBS ever get back to somewhat of a normal radio station it once was?

    Great Blog!

  5. From Oregon. Is Jon Miller for sure back in 2023 or are other things afoot with the SF booth?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Miller will be back but with a fewer game schedule --like 100-120 games, maybe even less but the situation is fluid, DH.

  6. When is Bill Martin from KTVU going to go away? It's painful to watch him.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Hi Rich. Is there any truth to the rumors of Elizabeth Cook going to KTVU?

    -Paul from Dublin

    ReplyDelete
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if that were to happen, Paul, but I haven't heard that at all. I shall check. Would be good for both her and KTVU. Change of scenery dept.

    1. This would be interesting. Liz Cook's husband worked at KTVU for a while so she probably has the inside track.

But I doubt this would happen. Liz lives in SF, has two young children, and has a schedule that works for her current family situation. Why would she want to leave a good thing to have to drive to Oakland each day just to work at a toxic shitshow?

And in order for that to happen, KTVU would have to give the boot to Julie, Heather, or Cristina.

    2. Send Haener to the nursing home. She’s a washed up windbag just hanging on at this point.

Elizabeth Cook, Heather Holmes and Cristina Rendon would be a fantastic team.

  9. Hi Rich, GuRah Kang here in Alameda! With all the negativity at KPIX, I wonder about someone who to me, is a big positive, and that is Jocelyn Moran,a reporter and coanchor on KPIX in the mornings. I noticed her right away when she first came on about a year and a half ago, and I thought she was good then. But she has really blossomed to me, and I notice they have mad her more glamorous with more makeup, etc, lately, especially when she is coanchoring. So I just wonder what you, Rich, think of her, as your opinion is most valuable! Thanks for all you do!

    1. She's good, not great but you're right, she's solid. Somehow though, PIX will waste her and she'll end up soon in Seattle.

Thanks for the kind words, Gurah.

  10. I saw some new guy on KRON 4 the other day reporting from the airport and he has his eyebrows were done more meticulously than a female plus he had on more make up. I don't care about someone's sexual orientation but it is distracting with that put on feminine voice. His last name is Thomas.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah I saw him too and thought he was a joke, like KRON, where'd you get this buffoon? He was doing a live shot from the Russian River and it was baaaaaad.

  11. Do we expect radio broadcasting to be around in 20 or 30 years? Especially with many stations, etc going to the mobile platform or smart speaker.

One of the stations near me last year signed up after putting a loop saying something "We have gone mobile, blah, blah."

Me from Nevada (formerly Castro Valley)

    1. Yep, AM radio is dead nowadays unless it has sports. It's the new world.

      Delete
    2. AM radio interferes with electric cars. That is why you won't find AM radio in them. Give it 15-20 years (especially in California with the phasing out) and alot of these stations will be done. Sure, you will always have people driving older ICE's but give it 10-15 years and those will slowly fade away as well.

    3. It is not just Sara, the entire 5 team needs a fashion police to shape them up. Sara is bad, but Paul Haggen,s jeans take the cake. He is the lead weather man, and looks like he just came off his bike and rushed in to do the weather. They she hire Nora O'Donald to teach them what it take to look professional on TV. "Jewels" looks great at times, but sometime she wears something she bought in a shopping trip with Sara.

  12. Who pays for Sara Donchey's nightly fashion experiments?

  13. I've noticed ktvu seems to be elevating Jesse Gary's profile. In the past month I've seen him do sports, anchor the main desk, and do a sit-down interview with a nationally known politician (name escapes me).

Is this intentional or just a matter of necessity because the budget is tight and they've got no one else half the time?

    Love the blog!

    1. Both and Jesse Gary is pretty dull and dreary, not one of my favs but at KTVU, yeah, they think he's a star.

      Meh in my book.

    2. I don't know, I kind of like Jesse Gary because he does a lot here in the South Bay, plus he tries hard and is interesting in his reporting.

  14. Hi Rich, During the storm coverage at 11pm they have reporters around the bay standing outside live in the rain only to run a package report from earlier in the day? Why have those reporter stand out in the rain for 10 min of the broadcast when they dont actually go to them live?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's for effect and to show how "on scene: they are, like the reporters in a hurricane, all show. Pretty much.

      Delete
    2. It's hard to tell when they're live in the dark and the next (recorded) shot shows daytime. Hehehe.

  15. What happened to Sandhya Patel? She has been off over 2 weeks, she did came back after X Mas for a day, voice change on ait and no show?

    1. Could be extended vacation time or a minor sickness. They just had a big Covid hit so I'm not at all shocked if it's the latter.

      Delete
    2. I saw her doing the 6 o'clock news earlier this week.

      Delete
    3. I don't watch but often go to the KGO website to look at their Doppler radar. They also have clips on the site of their weather forecasts for that day. I've seen Sandhya several times in the past week.

  18. What happened to/Where is Malou Nubla, Christine Nubla and Maria Medina?

    1. Maria Medina left the biz.

Malou Nubla is doing infomercials --her sister, no clue.

    2. Christine Nubla owned and operated a Cup Cake shop in Foster City, the last I heard. I think it was called "CupCakery".

  19. Has there been any progress in locating the producers at comcast/NBC who still thinks it's wonderfull to keep the overexposed Carlos ramirez on the air,as he still seems to suck commenting on both baseball and football?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I found the perfect solution for this Carlos Ramirez 49er postgame scourge. DVR the show and then after it's done, go back and FF until Matt Maiocco or a player interview comes on. Ramirez is the worst in the history of Bay Area sports hosts. Prove me wrong because you can't.

  20. Rich,

    Bill from Los Gatos...

KCBS was off the air here from 1145 till 1235. No reason why when they came back on, it was like it never happened. What a joke.

    1. Bill, what else is new. Like a broken record.
They're saying it's weather -related but c'mon, a billion$ outfit like Audacy? Yeah, a joke.

    2. Seems like the FM was on and the AM was knocked off the air. Probably running on the NOTAM computer.

  21. Rich, as you know, a couple of hosts from KGO now are doing YouTube shows daily. You don’t cover them. I’m not criticizing, just wondering your reasoning in not doing so. - Jack from Placer County.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Probably because I don't like either host's shows and have said as much --nothing else needs to be said, at least from my place.

    2. Nikki Medoro seems to be pulling in an average of 1,300 views per video. That seems really low.

      Delete
    3. I was not a fan of Nikki, so I don't watch her on Utube. I do watch Mark Thompson when I have a chance, nothing else on at that time in the morning unless you want conservative hosts, or CBS repeating the same stories over and over. I can get that later. Mark I think is doing better than Nikki, I liked his show better. He has some of the same guests as he did on KGO, David Cay Johnson, other political commentators, John Rothmann about once or twice a week, also David Katz, that use to be on Pat's show.

  22. Granted I'm a Raider fan (Hand slap to the head emoji) but am I the only one tired of The Volkswagen Sports Report???????

    ReplyDelete
  23. WTF—What. The. F%ck. Just saw Mark fricking IbaƱez, hands on hips, standing in The Vinyl Room, pontificating on the 49ers, with Frank Malaprop for KTVU’s Mornings on 2!

  24. Rich, does anyone at ktvu have a clue? Confusion and contradictory statements are the name of the game.
This morning for example Rosemary says the heaviest of the rain will be gone before the 49ers game and any rain will be sporadic and light. She sends it back to Frank Mallijoke who tosses to James Torres in the Levi’s Parking. During the toss Mallijoke makes a comment to Torres that it’s going to be “pouring buckets” during the game, literally seconds after Rosemary says the rain will clear.
And as if that wasn’t bad enough, during his report Torres say “heavy rain and strong winds” are forecasted for the game.
And this is just one example of many.
I swear these people have their heads up their culo.

    1. They need to tune in to the new KRON weather girl with weather fronts that put Gasia's to shame.

    2. This is a regular occurrence for them. There’s no thought put into the newscast, no one communicates or listens to others, and attention to detail means nothing.
No one gives a shit over there.

      Delete
    3. They do. They get a lot of facts wrong in their stories too. Never saw that in the Dennis Richmond/Fred Zehnder era.

  25. Does Tom Vacar wear diapers? Recently it’s become much more conspicuous as the bulkiness is hard to hide and he seems to have more of a square shape.
No judgement if he wears them. Incontinence is real and if he’s out and about in the field he may not always be able to get to a restroom as quickly as he would like.
    Just hoping he’s ok.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. How in the world would Rich know that?!?

      Delete
    2. Yeah, no judgment...just point it out so everyone can point and stare. Sheesh.

      Delete
    3. 1:08 PM, Even if he does wear diapers, so what? Is it funny to you? Are you trying to embarrass him? Your disingenuous, faux concern certainly makes it seem that way.
My grandmother had to wear diapers right as her health began to decline. She passed less than six months later.
News flash: the human body is subject to the frailties of the biological species that we are. One day you may find yourself needing to wear diapers, and I can assure you it won’t feel great when strangers mock you because of it. Do better.

  26. As folks age they typically gain some weight. A completely routine occurrence. Mind your own business.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Fred from SSF I found your $100 bill you lost in SSF please give location and will return to you?

    ReplyDelete
  28. 1:08PM...Lol! And just how could Rich L. possibly know that detail? I doubt if Vacar chats about it on Facebook. Maybe not even on Twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jovina Fartson needs to lay off the wigs. It’s become excessive and totally distracting. She changes wigs a more than a baby changes diapers. I swear I once saw her wear two different wigs in one newscast. Having six different hairstyles, lengths, colors, etc in any given ten day period is tacky.

    ReplyDelete
  30. @1:08 Backhanded, fake and unnecessary. You haven't the slightest concern about Tom, otherwise you wouldn't have posted such vile drivel.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why have some of the news stations had the anchors stand and move around? Can they just sit and handle the news?

    ReplyDelete
  32. PIX seems a bit better, though not on board with the new CBS Bay Area branding; It's like KPIX-5 doesn't exist anymore. Their sets are just fair, and I'm not digging the new opens or music. They should totally pair Juliette and Hackney on the 6/7/11 weeknight news -- by far their best anchor combo. They have to do something with Ryan Yamamoto -- he was a weekend sports anchor at KXTV in Sac, and really hasn't gotten any better... morning, noon or weekends for him maybe. I think they are totally missing out by not using Kenny Choi as a weekday anchor; maybe pair him with Cook or Donchey on the 5 pm. I like Cook, but she doesnt seem to fit into their plans anymore; time for a change perhaps?
