KTVU Considered Ken Wayne Post Somerville; Staff Still No Confidence in Amber Eikel; KRON Mulls Grant Lodes and Justine Waldman; Vicki Liviakis is Still Beautiful; KPIX Eternal Dreck; Dan Ashley Mulls Leigh Steinberg; Tuesday Open

KTVU news personnel (namely, ND, Amber Eikel) had a mini-game plan set when it looked like Frank Somerville was a goner early in the year-- he was; Top execs at Fox and Eikel thought about bringing back current KRON and former Channel 2 anchor, Ken Wayne.

The idea was to try to get a big name and it was thought Wayne could be that person.

Only it never materialized.

Wayne is still under contract at KRON and had no interest in coming back across the bridge to Oakland. Plus, Wayne has hardly moved the needle at Channel 4. And KTVU was not going to offer anything money-wise to wet his appetite. In fact, when he went to KRON his salary was cut in half--that said, the relative tranquility at 4 beats the current chaos at ratings-challenged and toxic-city that is The Firm's KTVU Bay Area outpost.

*KTVU is mired in turbulence with an ongoing crisis in confidence over its current management--and this was before the Somerville chaos.

The vast majority of KTVU's news personnel has NO CONFIDENCE over both Eikel and the MIA GM, Mellynda Hartel. NONE. Staff complain of an ongoing rift between the rank and file and KTVU's awful bosses. There is no confidence because the vast majority of people, including most on-air staff feel Eikel and Hartel are in over their head and lack the experience of running a major-market news department.

When the ratings remained strong, Fox gave Eikel a pass--despite a clear lack of leadership and forward movement. Now, KTVU is still tops in many time slots but its vaunted 10 o'Clock News is LOSING viewers and losing BIG TIME in the early evening. Several times, KRON has challenged KTVU at 10--something unthinkable in the past, and now reality.

Oh and this: Mike Mibach is a DUD and Julie Haener is tired, haunted and has one foot out the door.

*Here's the problem at KRON: when the two major personalities are over 60 --Pam Moore and Vicki Liviakis--you have issues.

KRON and GM, Jim Rose know this. Which is why KRON is looking at Grant Lodes and Justine Waldman --their future double aces.

*Side note: I don't care what age, Liviakis is, she's just plain gorgeous.

*Up the street at PIX, the overall doldrums that plague the building at 855 Battery continue on: talk about a place in dire straits, the newsroom has NO IDEA where management is going; there's NO DIRECTION and a ruderless GM who, yeah, is a "nice guy" but he hasn't done a thing yet except have a few meetings and threaten change. Hurry up, Scott Warren, your shelf life is beginning to wane.

*KGO's Dan Ashley, on the verge of signing a MASSIVE (by today's standards) contract extension: should it not take place, Ashley, acording to Circle7 sources might hire heavyweight agent Leigh Steinberg.

*Raj Mathai and his sloppy seconds #1, Janelle Wang.

  1. I can’t believe Raj Mathai is still trying to fancy himself as some kind of Don Juan playboy. A grown ass man in his 50’s with a wife and kids, acting like he’s a 20-something bachelor.

Time to hang ‘em up and grow up Raj. Your glory days are long behind you. Now you’re just another creepy old geezer, no matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise.

  2. Matlock reruns are better than the KTVU news.

    1. Must be nice for Andre to take the co-anchor slot and MO2, then immediately start taking time off. Now is not the time to get uppity.

    2. Never mind Matlock reruns. Someone should air reruns of "The Streets of San Francisco." It's a lot better than watching the zombie programs on TV these days...and that includes local news.

    3. Uppity: This term has historically been used in America to describe black people who were considered to be acting above "their place", and is considered to have racist connotations when applied to people of color. *slow clap*

A bit twisted that you're incensed over Andre's time away and are likely still red in the face--and neck--about it;)

  3. (Hope not) even if they cut her to just one of hour for newscasts I still love watching Liviakis doing the anchor desk @ KRON...

    2. Add me to Team Janelle, as well. There's a certain authenticity about her that makes her even more attractive.

    3. Janelle is HOT! Can't believe she is single... Her rival, Audrey Asistio has a huge ego and is not a nice person. NBC 11 only hired her because she gre up in the Bay Area. She seems fake AF!

    4. Audrey is super nice, Janelle is not!

    5. Everything about Audrey seems fake from her fake persona to her fake…

      Anyway, yeah, everything means everything.

  6. If I get in a collision with a driver who happens to work for the IRS, which KGO 810 lawyer-sponsor should I call? The injury attorney or the tax guy?

  7. hmmm it's never been a "problem" for any male bay area anchor to be over 60. why, precisely , is it a "problem " for a female anchor? Is that because you are both a sexist and an ageist?

    ReplyDelete

    1. If he were an ageist he would have in fact said it was a problem for a male too.

    2. You are clueless. To single out one sex in a profession where both work and say the one sex is a "problem " at sixty and the other is not, is both sexist and ageist. duh

    3. He won’t answer you, you know why

      Delete
    4. Sexism and ageism aside, Vicki Liviakis could successfully anchor any desk in the bay area, and better than whoever's there right now. Including the mousekateers...

    5. Oh look, the Kraft lady is back.

    6. Age is a problem in that many people in their 60s decide to retire, leaving vacancies.

    7. "Kraft" has been spewing nonsense in the MSN comments section since her departure here. Her political takes...often wrong, seldom in doubt.

  8. If KTVU is looking for a "big name," Wayne ain't it.

He's a small fry in an ever-shrinking paper bag of fast food.

  9. Here's a laugh I found online. Did they actually watch any of KTVU's newscasts before giving Amber this "award"?

    2. Catherine Heenan is another solid professional, like Vicki Liviakis and Pam Moore. The other NDs should take notice. What am I saying? That won't happen in this market.

    3. @3:16 As one article put it, she just lit a match in a dynamite factory. Go ahead and laud her as a hero while the world is going to have to deal with the repercussions of her political "look at me" stunt. Be smarter, turn off MSNBC.

  11. Liviakis is over 60? I would have never guessed it a few months back when her 'Tune in Tokyo's' were on full display.

  12. Vicki Liviakis OVER 60? No freaking way. Her professional demeanor (not to mention her looks) put her over the top. I'd take her any day over ANYONE at the other stations. What the millennial spreadsheet lovers won't tell you is age is just a number. That's okay. Hope they know someone will be pushing their collective asses out the door when their time comes too.

  14. KTVU needs a no-nonsense believable anchor. Maybe it's time they invite Stanley Roberts back to the Bay Area.

  15. Janelle is married as well? Guess spouses dont care? People have all kinds of arrangements in their marriages. Dont ask ,dont tell and dont bring home any diseases!! If that works for all involved, congrats!!

  16. Alex Savige is anchoring the news tonight. I’ve always liked him. Such a contrast from Julie Haener. He’s good at what he does and seems like a genuinely good guy. You never hear anything bad about him. Not sure why they promoted Mike Miboch instead of him. Oh wait, I know why…Madam Eikel.

  17. KRON is the only game in town with smart management right now. They have good anchors and a pretty deep bench and they have made really good new hires lately. They're ready to rumble. Gonna be fun to watch the ratings race this year.

  19. @6:25pm, Alex Savidge is not a genuinely good guy. He had an affair with his co-worker and she is still working as a reporter at channel 2. He has a big ego and he’s at big flirt. It’s the reason he didn’t get the position Mike Mibach got. Mike Mibach is the genuinely good guy.
